After reading this article, listen to Taurus by Spirit and then the beginning of Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin and judge for yourself whether Page, Plant and the gang ripped that off from Spirit. Keep in mind that Spirit was on tour with Led Zeppelin before Stairway was written. Spirit was playing Taurus live at the time. LZ is notorious for "borrowing" from other artists.

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page argues against plagiarism case involving classic track Stairway To Heaven
By Martin Kielty
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has defended himself against the claim that he based Stairway To Heaven on Spirit track Taurus by saying he first heard the other band’s piece in 2014.
And although he’s admitted to finding a copy of the 1968 record in his collection, he insists that he’d never listened to it.
Spirit released Taurus three years before Led Zep launched Stairway, after the bands had toured the US together. Spirit bassist Mark Andes launched legal action two years ago, saying he wanted recognition for the work of late guitarist Randy California.
Page said in a California court declaration last week: “Prior to hearing a recording of Taurus in 2014 in connection with this matter, I have never heard Taurus or even heard of it. I am very good at remembering music and am absolutely certain that I never heard Taurus' until 2014.”
He admitted to having a copy of the record, but added: “I had not previously seen it in my collection and do not know how or when it got there. It may well have been left by a guest. I doubt it was there for long, since I never noticed it before. But, again, I know I did not hear Taurus until 2014."
Led Zep’s legal case is not based on the alleged similarity between the songs, but on whether the Spirit party have the right to bring the lawsuit in the first place. It’s argued that California wrote Taurus under a record deal in which he surrendered all rights to his work, meaning his estate can’t make any claim over it.
Page and co also assert that California dismissed any claim via a 1991 interview in which he said: “I’ll let them have the beginning of Taurus for their song without a lawsuit.”

Jimmy Page is great in many ways - but he is a scumbag for the way he has systematically stolen music from others while so rabidly guarding Led Zeppelin's music from being used by others.
For instance
the Yardbirds with Page on guitar did a tour with Jake Holmes. And then liked this song so much that they did a cover on it on their next tour. But it took years of Jake Holmes living near poverty before Page was willing to give him any credit.
Yeah, any honest songwriter will acknowledge there's a lot of "borrowing" going on in the music industry. We are influenced by everything we've heard. It creeps in subliminally and then shows up in our songs. It's when it's done purposely that it needs to be litigated.
I'm pretty certain though that George Harrison didn't purposely steal "He's So Fine" when he was writing "My Sweet Lord" but he lost in court anyway.
11 FAMOUS ROCK SONGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW WERE SUED FOR PLAGIARISM

I used to let plagiarism bother me. But after Lady Antebellum got away with a 4 time Grammy winning (Song of the Year) "Need You Now" shamelessly ripping off Alan Parson Project chorus from "Eye In the Sky" I threw up my hands and said to myself,
" You bastards! No, no Ramsey, get used to it. Even the damned plagiarized song Need You Now says, " It happens all the time."
I wrote a song a while back with the sweetest melody but can't shake the feeling I've heard it before. I keep thinking it's too good to come from me alone. If I released it I would probably be sued, so here it sits.
I think RedRam made a guess of the Twenty Seven Club member, when he posted Jimmy Hendrix's "Little Wing. And yes Jimmy Hendrix is a member of the Twenty Seven Club, along with Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, The Rolling Stone's Brian Jones, and Janis Joplin. But he wasn't the member the song was about, so RedRam gest a consolation prize of 10 ROD dollars. The song I posted was about first member to join the Twenty Seven Club.
50 ROD Dollars to the first person who posts a song by the unidentified Twenty Seven Club member .

Sued? For what? You've got nothing to lose! You've been sitting on your talents forever essentially. To get anywhere you have to move. It all starts with a step. Then another, and another, etc... Of course it doesn't come from you alone! You've been blessed with the wonderful gift of music. A gift that you're supposed to share. So share it already!:coachy)
Hendrix was the only one that I knew of that died at 27, so it wasn't a guess.
Thank you for the 10 ROD dollars. What are ROD dollars? :rolllaugh:
The new Cybertron computer arrives tomorrow...supposedly. This will enable me to record without constant stuttering and freezing of the pc during the recording process caused by my crappy 13-year old AMD computer.
Have yet to figure out how to share these tunes here at ROD but will most likely join Bandcamp or some other site which will allow me to post these songs here and on the net in general.
Speaking of Jimi Hendrix.......

The Gilmour show Friday night at the H'wood Bowl was outstanding. The encore alone (Time, Breathe, and Comfortably Numb) was worth the price of admission. None of the videos posted online of the show are available (copyright)...
This is the title track to his latest album...
