First song I can remember listening to around our household.

Johnny Horton and Hank Williams Senior were both married to Billie Jean Horton and both played their last gig at the Skyline Club in Austin TX. Then they both died in a Cadillac. Horton in a wreck and Hank in the back seat.

My parents small part in rock and roll history. The area my parents are from, when they were dating and just before they married had a small band that played the local clubs and county fairs in sech.
Because they were local and playing small venues they got to know the band well including two guys named Phil and Don. Fast forward a few years. My parents are stationed in Germany where a small band is making some noise playing local clubs and dives. Learning their craft if you will. My parents got to see them quite often in that period. I believe they came over a few years later with the British invasion.

On this day in 1955 Elvis released his first number 1 hit "'I Forgot to Remember to Forget" which hit the top of the country charts. (Although I see conflicting accounts that it was actually Aug 20th...but close enough)

Here is some very cool live audio recorded on "Louisiana Hayride" on Saturday, October 1, 1955. Horace Logan introduces the fabulous Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore and Bill Black. They're billed as the "NEW LOOK IN WESTERN MUSIC!!!!"

Here is another live recording of Elvis on the "Louisiana Hayride" about a year earlier in 1954 singing "That's all right". This song was originally released on July 19, 1954, and sold around 20,000 copies but not enough to chart nationally. It reached number 4 locally in Memphis.

Elvis was 19.
