Boy, if that isn't a great description for Tony Banks, I don't know what is. The dude had a serious arm and could really look like he could be somebody, but then would just do stupid shit over and over. I remember in '98 that bomb he threw to Ike against the Vikings, God what a pretty ball that was ... and those moments would make you think he had a diamond in the rough. But man, just some serious fuck-ups one after another too.

I compare Bank to Nuke LaLoosh from the movie Bull Durham, in Crash Davis's words: He's got a million dollar arm and a ten cent head.
Agreed... He had a good arm and decent mobility. But good Lord I hated his shitty competitiveness, idiotic decision making, his "anti-clutch gene"-- and arrogance to boot. I looked up his career summary on Wikipedia and the following sentence stood out:

"During his time in St. Louis he developed a reputation for having a cocky attitude and a poor work ethic."

For me, part of what was awful about the Tony Banks "era" was that we had just had 6 straight losing seasons from 1990 through 1995. And then in '96 with Tony as the rookie starter (and setting a record for fumbles with 21!) we went 6-10. Then 5-11 in '97. Then 4-12 in '98. Nine freaking losing seasons in a row. I just remember KNOWING that Tony was an immature loser.... and I just HATED the way the Rams kept putting him out there as the starter for 3 more excruciating years.

Thank goodness for the miracle of '99, erasing the Tony Banks nightmare...

All the losers they drafted with the Dickerson trade picks.
I know, a few could play. But that trade, well.... I remember to spot where I was at when I heard the news.
Kinda like normal people when they heard about JFK getting assassinated.

I’m still shaking my head years after watching Tony Banks. Ugh.

All of the above but I want to mention what I thought about Tavon Austin

After the Indianapolis game, I thought we had something. But he got injured and became a coward running with the ball after that game.

Whenever we did a jet sweep, he would always run to the outside and go out of bounds instead of turning up field for a lot more yards because he was going to get hit if he did that.

That's why I hated the Tutu Atwell pick so much. I figured he would do the same thing since he was so small.

Well it turns out Tutu is a little braver than Tavon but he is just a gadget player so far. Not a good use for a second round pick.

Maybe he will turn out better this year.

Oh man, Bradford, the injuries were the injuries and the guy just maybe was never gonna be much cause of them but I think that's a QB we ruined by not giving him enough around him (especially at receiver).
Bradford was my 1st thought. There have been countless disappointments, but none had as big of an affect on our team long term.

disappointments... there were many. Trades include to and from. So starting with my induction in 1976:

76-79 never the same injury: Jessie, Namath
76-79 performance: Tom Dempsey, James Harris, Ron Jaworski, Rafael Septien
76-79 draft: none glaring
76-79 trade: Namath*, Charley Young

80's never the same injury: Peacock, Bert Jones, Gary Green, Frank Stams, Bill Hawkins
80's performance: Jewerl Thomas (after '80), Pat Haden, Dan Pastorini, Chuck Nelson, Jeff Kemp, Dieter Brock, Drew Hill, Gaston Green
80's draft: Chuck Nelson 1983, entire 1984 draft, Mike Schad 1986, Donald Evans 1987, Gaston Green, Aaron Cox 1988, Bill Hawkins 1989, Frank Stams
80's trade: entire Dickerson trade

90's never the same injury: Marcus DuPree (prev injury comeback)
90's performance: Curt Warner, Sean Gilbert, Mark Boutte, Wayne Gandy, Tony Banks, June Henley, Taje Allen
90's draft: Latin Berry, Pat Terrell, Steve Israel, Wayne Gandy, Zach Weigert, Lawrence Phillips, Tony Banks, Eddie Kennison
90's trade: Curt Warner, Jerome Bettis, Ironhead Heyward

2000's you guys called it

I'm sure I missed a few

*I was skeptical before the Namath trade though I really wanted him to do good, but like we say in Hawaii... he was "All Bahh-ss'!!" (all busted up)

For me it’s a toss up between Jason Smith and Greg Robinson.

I was hoping they would be our next Orlando Pace, but they were just so bad. Alex Barron was another one I just remembered
