Granted I am not a draft expert but for me it is just about maximizing the value at pick 13. The Rams have a chance to get an elite talent at that range, so I am for grabbing that type of player no matter what the position (minus K& P). With that being said, CB, Edge, DT, WR, tackle and QB are the only blue-chip positions I would generally advocate for drafting at pick 13. RB, Interior OL, TE, ILB, or Safety all have to be truly elite generation talents to be considered at 13 but any could be options at 29. RB Love and Safety Caleb Downs appear to be the only players at the aforementioned positions currently considered in that strata from what little I know about the current draft class.
CB is the obvious choice for me followed by WR and then OT at 13. if an Aaron Donald type player were to fall into the spot at DT or edge. Then I would not hesitate. From my limited knowledge of this class there is nobody like that likely to be there at 13.
If WR is better value than CB based on the board, I would love to get one at 13 and it appeared the options at WR may be better than at CB in the 13 spot. If both a WR or CB are there that are comparably graded, then the CB need trumps the WR want.
I really need to see what the Rams do in free agency first. The Rams have most of their money tied up in the offense but is that about to change? I think they double dip at CB by bringing in a vet via FA or trade and also drafting one high. CB would be good value at 13.
For all of the hype about our Rams defensive front I still would not mind seeing another good edge player taken to keep the pipeline full, but probably not at 13.
I still feel a little uneasy about the tackle position. Jackson has the clot concerns, and I am still not sold on McClendon as a long-term answer at RT. His 2024 play was mostly bad. Although he filled in well for Havenstein in the regular season, I thought his play dipped some in the playoffs. I am not sure he has the ideal size and especially length that I like to see in tackles. He is only 6-4 which is in the short end for tackle. He weighs in a respectable 315 but we know the roster wights cannot always be trusted. If the Rams have struggles at tackle the whole offense will go in the shitter.
