Okay, you want to discuss drafting a QB in Round 1 of 2024?

Let’s do that.

If the season ended today, the Rams would have the 6th pick in the draft. I, for one, strongly believe that (as long as Stafford is playing) the Rams’ slot will be significantly later than that when all is said and done. That said, its interesting to consider which teams will be in the market for a franchise QB.

Currently sitting at No. 1 is Arizona. They find themselves in a difficult position, having just paid Kyler Murray. Would they trade him (and would anyone want him with his contract?) and grab a Caleb Williams? Probably?

Chicago holds the next two picks. Are they ready to give up on Justin Fields, or do they build around him?

The Giants are at No. 4. They, like Arizona, just paid their intended franchise QB, Daniel Jones, but he just tore his ACL. I’ve got to believe they’d be ready for an upgrade but, again, its not a certainty.

New England is next. They’ll take a QB.

Others who would probably be in the market, and might trade up: Tampa (8), Denver (9), Atlanta (12), Washington (13) and Las Vegas (14)

What’s interesting to me, and increases the likelihood that the Rams might consider drafting Stafford’s heir apparent in Round 1 (even if they are picking in the middle of the round) is that the market not just Caleb Williams. Drake Maye, Michael Penix, Bo Nix and Shedeur Sanders are also very intriguing prospects.

So, yeah… the Rams looking at a QB early in the draft is plausible. I’d prefer they wait until Day 2, but you can’t rule out anything at this point.

Caleb Willaims and Justin herbert 2.0 Drake Maye won't be there at 6. Penix is a first rounder but not a top 10 guy. Trade down a possibility? Sanders and Bo Nix could be had in round 2.

I wouldn't be so sure. Personally, I wouldn't take either highly in the 1st and think they should land in the 2nd, but, there is a fair amount of QB needy teams and I'd guess they go round 1 somewhere. Penix is more intriguing by the week and has improved from last year. McCarthy is climbing boards too, though I've yet to really study him.

If McCarthy declares, he is a top 10 pick too IMHO. He'll be 21 in January and has great size, football acumen plus he can run to extend plays, but does not run because he cannot throw. Great leader, all the things you look for in an upper echelon signal caller.

When it’s all said and done, three QBs go in the top 10. I believe both AZ and Chicago trade their picks.

Chicago may even trade both if they don’t have to move down to far. They have a lot of holes and a quick way to fill them is to stockpile some day 2 picks. They don’t currently have a 2nd round pick, but they may come out of this with 6 picks in the first three rounds

I wouldnt take any of the QB in the 1st round outside of Williams/Maye, and the Rams wont be in top 2

Yes but it's plausible we can trade into the top 2. Also if we end up with a lower top 10 pick guys like McCarthy, Nix and Penix may fit the bill.

Those cats arent first rounders. Having to nail the draft, Id look for one of the OLT to be available, and then grab your QB in the 2nd or 3rd. Be better off drafting a player early and then trading back in to the 1st to grab one of the QB's

I would much rather build around Stafford with BPA, every round, unless this FO believes the QB prospects this year are better than any coming out in the next few seasons.

Arch Manning will be available after the 25 season, no? That gives Stafford the rest of 23, 24 and 25.

I’d be very surprised if Denver and LV aren’t very aggressive in the upcoming draft regarding QBs.

AZ and the Giants may not rule out a QB either.

As far as what we do, I have no idea.
Snead and McVay are very unpredictable.

I don't think Nix last till the 2nd round. Too many teams with bad QB's will scoop him up if he's available. He's been one of the best pro ready prospects, has legs, and doesn't get rattled easily when he does make a mistake.

This draft is strong in a few areas of need for us; QB and OT, and Edge depth in 1st is good but I don't see an elite guy. Its pretty lacking at CB, I'm not even in love with the top CB McKinstry.

I had high hopes that Jackson would show he's our LT of the future, but he really hasn't shown that unfortunately.

I'm of the thought process that we hopefully won't be picking this high in the draft ever again and that this draft is stocked with potential franchise guys at the QB position, so take one if one you love is there. Otherwise, trade back and grab best available Edge/LT/CB.

We DO need a Franchise Left Tackle, but I'm figuring when you're up this high better grab your Quarterback of the future. I LOVE Stafford and he's a Ram legend forever, but let's face facts, at this point he's a banged-up injury case. That pick-6 in Dallas told me it's more or less over for Staff.

Chicago would be absolute fools to not take Harrison Jr if they have a top 3 pick. That dude is going to be elite HOF talent.

No way one of the better QB's in this draft falls to the Rams. That said, no sense in having a stud at QB (Stafford OR a high draft pick) if your left tackle can't protect him. We've witnessed this since Big Whit retired.

If the Rams take a QB not named Williams or Maye in the first round then they've made a mistake, imo. I hate taking QBs just for the sake of it.

If Chicago moves down and misses on Williams or Maye they should be fired before the second round starts.
