So ESPN.com had all their beat writers for NFL teams produce W/L predictions for their team. Now I know that ESPN sucks, but the beat writers for each individual team shouldn't. That's quite a few perspectives.

So Nick Wagoner has us going 8-8, but actually has us at 8-6 going into the last two games. I think most of us would take that. Cool. So then I thought to check and see what each of the writers for the other teams that we play are predicting.....and wow.

Let's start with the wins: Arizona (once), Chicago, Detroit, and Minnesota

Losses that make some sense:

Seahawks twice, Cardinals once, Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, Packers

Mind numbing predicted losses that make no sense:

Redskins, Niners - TWICE, Browns, Buccaneers

That's right. 4 wins. Four. As in, 4-12.

Now, individually, I'm guessing none of those beat writers for other teams would predict a 4-12 record for our Rams. But collectively, they are obviously a bit too positive about their own teams. But I'm sick of it.

I know our guys need to go out and earn respect, but being picked to lose to those 4 teams is an insult. And I'm really getting sick of not getting what respect we have earned.

Who cares it's ESPN. Their commentary on everything is so beige. I tuned them out and watch fox sports 1 for sports catch-up news and highlights

Two things.

As we saw last year, the first year in a new system, offense or defense... it takes time to click. So the offense is going to take time. The fact that it's run first and the OL is young...well, we just don't know how soon it will click.

Secondly, as much as guys say they don't pay attention to that media stuff, they do. I hope every guy in the NFL not on the Rams starts circling the Rams as a win and considers it a bye week. Cuz that's a recipe for disaster. Our guys are ready to spit fire and we KNOW how physical our guys play. Any team who doesn't come ready to slobberknock is gonna have to spend extra time in the ice bath.

I HOPE we have a really great season and win the Super Bowl. It's also possible that we have a pretty inconsistent season with a great D and an offense that doesn't come on until the end like our D last year.

All we can do is root for our Rams when they take the field and hope and pray for the best.

As for respect, well, mostly the media respects our D, but don't think that will translate to wins by itself. Well, Detroit had a front 4 about our equal with Suh and Fairley with about the same output and they didn't generate wins, either. It takes a whole team. We got the Special Teams. We got the D. Now... if the O can get clicking sooner than later....we'll be there. We just don't know when that will be. Seems the media folks are wagering on later in this offensively dominated league.

And, frankly, based on past as prologue, it's kinda hard to blame them.

Would you be more or less surprised if they had us going 12-4?

Less.

I think 8-8 is the floor for this team, barring an injury to Foles.

As soon as the Rams start winning more games then they lose, they will get respect...IMO, 8-8 is fair and until this team showcases otherwise I'm okay with that prognostication.

I disagree with the ridiculously negative predictions too, but to be fair the Rams have disappointed.

So here's hoping they make the media look stupid this season by crushing Bradford and the Eagles in the NFC Championship before cruising to a resounding Super Bowl win.

Rams haven't had a winning record since 2003.

12 years.

We need to prove we can be a winning team and it starts this year!

I would be much more surprised but it still is just irritating listening to people acting like we are the worst team in the league. True that we have to demonstrate that we are better but really - these idiots can blow me.

Precisely. And what would it do for us if Wagoner predicted the Rams to be 11-5?

I too read that and was a bit mystified...but I'm taking it in stride. Until the Rams prove they are something more than what they've shown why would anyone put their name on a breakthrough? I've felt confident going into every season (that we've had our QB)...I'm confident this team will win Sunday...but I also know not to hold my breath.

The last time the Rams had a winning record:
1) Torry Holt was the best receiver in the NFL

2) Chad Johnson was just "Chad Johnson"

3) Todd Gurley was 10 years old

4) "In da club" by 50 cent was number 1 on top 100 music billboard

5) George Bush was president

6) Lance Armstrong won his 5th Tour da France

7) Arnold Swartzenegger was elected Governor

8) Brett Favre just turned 30

9) The IPhone was just a flip phone

10) The Buccaneers and Raiders just went to the super bowl

Respect is for those who have earned it, not those who demand it.

Until the Rams prove they can win more than 8 games in a season, I will not be surprised by any writers who predict them to do badly, just the way it goes unfotunately

Also, it's preseason, every team is full of optimism, the Rams included, I would be more surprised if the beat writers for each individual team didn't think they could beat the Rams at this point. They don't see the improvementsthat we have made, why would they? They just see their team, and their shiny new draft picks going up against a team that was 6-10 last year.

It is annoying, but it will make it all the more satisfying when the Rams do start winning.

iirc, every team in the NFC has been to the playoffs since 2004...at least once...except the Rams. That includes Tampa Bay.

So as enthused as we all may be, it's pretty easy to understand why outsiders may see us as perpetual disappointers...
