Ok for us to win the division and be number 1 in the conference

A few things have to happen.

The most obvious - win our last two games

Seattle - needs to lose to SF

SF needs to lose to either the Colts or Bears

Bears need to lose to either the Packers or the Lions

All of these are possible.

Or Seattle beats the Niners but Seattle lose to Carolina and Bears lose to GB or Lions or Niners.

Seattle is on the road vs Carolina and the Niners.

Hate to bearer of bad news but reality is that whoever we need to win that final SEA/SF game will have nothing to play for (if Rams are positioned to leapfrog them) while the opponent will be playing for the #1 seed. Our white knight will be resting starters for a first round playoff matchup on the road rather than getting into a divisional dogfight for wild card seeding.

If all 3 teams are at 4 losses going into the final week and the games are played at the same time..

SF and Seattle would both have incentive to play hard to win the division and the likely 1 seed assuming we could lose to Arizona.

Or if Rams and Seattle are at 4 losses and Niners at 5, both have incentive for the divison and possible 1 seed. Because Seattle can win division by beating Niners and us losing to Arizona. Niners can leapfrog us in the standings based on tie record and better divisional record.

I think Seattle has a better conference record vs us and would have the tie breaker.

That's exactly how I had it figured. Need to root for the Packers Saturday night, hope the Colts or Bears can beat the Niners, then have them beat Seattle in SF. I can see that all happening. Of course Rams would need to win out but I don't see that as a problem.

Maybe we’re just a better team when we are underdogs.

We’re in the dance. Although it’s possible, we’d need a lot from the football gods.

Do you all really think we cant go into SF or SEA and win???

Best is yet to come...

NO we have the tie-breaker.
I know we are tied for the Division tie breaker.

And it appears that Seattle has the same conference record as us. I could have sworn that Seattle lost to an AFC club.

So what comes next?

Head to head opponents?

Edit - Just looked and it looks like us beating Buccaneers gives us the tie-breaker, if Seattle loses to Carolina.

So you're right.

So all we need is a SF loss to the Bears or Colts or Seattle (if Seattle loses to Carolina).

Seattle needs to lose to either Carolina or SF

And the Bears just need to lose to Packers SF (if SF loses to Colts or Seattle) or Lions

With that I am rooting for a Packers and Colts win Sunday.

Ok I think I have confused myself enough today.

There is actually a really simplistic way this plays out:

Niners lose to EITHER the Colts or Bears - IMO one loss is likely here

Seahawks lose at Panthers

And if both of those happen.....we will re-control our own destiny before even stepping onto the field in Atlanta

If Seattle beats Carolina, we would be relying on the Niners to lose one, then beat Seattle....and the problem with that is, if SF loses one while we and Seattle win next week, they (Niners) can't win the division, so we would be relying on them playing their injury prone team to care about being the 7/6 seed (they could TECHNICALLY get the 5 seed if we lose at home to Arizona and they beat Seattle in this scenario, and both those games will kick off at the same time but...)

So really for all intents and purposes, we just need Seattle to lose next week. Because our only other chance at the division is the Niners losing, then beating Seattle, but they'd only be playing for seeding which feels dicey that they'd even try to win that game.

Seattle lost to Tampa. Common opponents will be the tie breaker so we just need Seattle to lose to Carolina or Niners since we beat Tampa.

we'd all be playing for the 1 seed still = they will schedule the games at the same time so no one knows if they have to win.
