I have lost my childhood Elementary School, three childhood homes, my sanctuary which was a hobby shop and countless special places that are the essence of my soul. Including where I fell in love with our Rams and other LA sports teams.

I realize that some believe that it may be stupid crazy to move to this place AFTER the fact of this loss. Most all, including an important friend and mentor of 55 years whom I have no idea how he is or where he is, did not live there for a lifetime thinking that this threat was worth the risk.

We ALL live in areas that can be wiped out by mother nature and at some time, have.

The Pacific Palisades is a place that WAS as special of a place that could be. I am blessed to have spent some of my childhood years there.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who have been affected by this most horrible tragedy.

go rams.
I grew up in the Alphabet streets and from what I’m hearing they‘ve been completely wiped out, my brother in law’s sister and her husband lost their house on Embury St. I went to both Marquez and Palisades Elementary, both gone. Pali High which I also attended, gone. The Hobby Shop on Via De LaPaz? (where I bought all my glow in the dark monster models and later all of my D&D gear) Haven’t heard anything about that place. It’s just surreal that a place so ingrained in who you are has been completely destroyed.

Insurance provides homeowners with financial security, and it is their first line of defense when tragedy strikes. The California DOI must focus on increasing insurers’ appetite to operate in the state. This will increase competition and broaden the risk pool, giving consumers more options at a lower cost.

Rams are lucky that the practice facility has clean air, given that the fires are pretty close by. Wind heading out to the ocean, mostly.

Air Quality Index currently at 35 for Woodland Hills, where they practice, which is just fine. AQI near SoFi however is at 193 currently, which is borderline unhealthy. I'm sure the NFL is hoping that number in Inglewood will come down by the weekend.

Yeah I think some here are underplaying this a bit.

There is a real chance this game gets played elsewhere.

My friend lives(d) on Fiske and I can't see a house in the alphabet streets that exists now. Because most of the businesses are destroyed and Palisades Elementary are gone I am assuming where the hobby shop was is as well.

Early reports was Pali High was destroyed but I am now hearing just the bungalows brought in over time burned but the main school building is still standing. I don't want to give any false hope but any at this point is good for me.

My mother passed a year ago and her wishes were to have her ashes spread over the Ocean right across from our first house we lived in on Corona Del Mar. We moved from that house in 1971. She moved to Ohio not long after. That is how the Palisades touched people.

My best to you brother. I feel a new hollowness as well.

Hey! I’m a Samohi grad! I’m so sorry for all the devastation and I pray for there to be no more loss of life and for this to end quickly. I spent a lot of time in the Palisades cycling in the canyons, Mandeville Canyon was my fave except for maybe Tuna Canyon in Malibu. Growing up in SoCal in the 70s and 80s was special and that area was really nice.

As a former Floridian, I’m familiar with the “they knew the risks” mess people say, but it’s everywhere. There’s not a single place on earth without known risks.

Praying for everyone to be safe, for this to end quickly and also, secondarily, for the Rams to kick the Vikings asses!

ROD,
This is a youtuber I follow, who lives & has a car shop in LA and uploads car build videos. She is OK (so far), but she posted links to donation sites on her latest upload, and also pledged to donate proceeds from this video (any monetization) towards relief efforts.
In part of the vid, she's driving around to drop off supplies to relief stations.
Not sure if this is appropriate, but maybe other members here know of other local LA sites to donate to, could maybe post them below?
Mods if this is against rules please delete, thanks ~

I wonder if any of these people would live in a Amish made tiny home, like those wiped out by the hurricane in NC? I got a feeling the answer would be no.
Are you kidding? California wouldn’t let that happen. My guess is they’ll be a lot of land grabbing going on just like Western North Carolina and Hawaii. I just hope the federal government can get off their ass with this one and get aid to people.

Wow that's freaking pretty cool. Not even being a smart ass here but how long did it take for them to travel to NC via horse and buggy? A month to get there and built 12 houses in 2 days? Maybe I should read the article....
Yeah, good idea. The Amish paid for it too, over $325K last I heard.

I merged it with the other thread. I feel there are quite a few eyes watching that thread and this info might be better served there.

That OC Register article is an Opinion piece from someone from R-Street. Here's R-Street's update:

The glimmer of good news for insurance companies is that after 37 years, the California Department of Insurance has finally seen the light. It is relaxing its restrictive position on insurance companies incorporating the impact of reinsurance cost and the use of forward-looking catastrophe models.
