Wait. First off Amish people live in NC?I wonder if any of these people would live in a Amish made tiny home, like those wiped out by the hurricane in NC? I got a feeling the answer would be no.

I don't thinks so, but they did travel from Pennsylvania just to help poor people freezing in the Appalachian Mountains/ NC.Wait. First off Amish people live in NC?
Wow that's freaking pretty cool. Not even being a smart ass here but how long did it take for them to travel to NC via horse and buggy? A month to get there and built 12 houses in 2 days? Maybe I should read the article....I don't thinks so, but they did travel from Pennsylvania just to help poor people freezing in the Appalachian Mountains/ NC.
State Farm is the biggest home insurer by market share in the state. They moved off a shit-ton of homes in CA last spring.Looks like State farm canceled 72k policies back in April. 1600+ in the Pacific Palisades area. Average price of homes there is 3.4 mill.
Good question! But I know that Amish will let the "English" plow their fields with a neighbor's modern tractors, as long as they themselves didn't use them. So I imagine the "English" could drive them to NC and back.Wow that's freaking pretty cool. Not even being a smart ass here but how long did it take for them to travel to NC via horse and buggy? State Farm is actually used to be the biggest insurer in the US by a wide margin 10 years ago. Progressive and Geico have made quite a bit of progress catching up in recent years. State Farm is like at 18% now and still the biggest.State Farm is the biggest home insurer by market share in the state. They moved off a shit-ton of homes in CA last spring.
The issue was bubbling under the radar for nearly a year prior but that is what got the public's attention. And again, we can discuss the system and how it works and why it works that way and should it but under that existing system insurers identified that the status-quo needed to change and these actions were part of the adjustment.
The Department of Insurance has mis-managed this situation from the word 'Go,' dating back nearly to the fires in 2017 and most certainly in the post-Covid environment.
So does this mean they could technically but a flight and fly and they aren't the pilots so they are allowed to do that?Good question! lmao that's so nuts! But you are right very cool!Hey @Corbin , here is your answer and it VERY cool.
"62 men, women, and children made the trip by bus, followed by five trailers filled with building supplies, tools, and equipment. (In general, the Amish avoid using modern technology but there are various exceptions and work arounds which I assume the used to serve the greater good). They arrived around noon on Tuesday, December 17th and immediately got to work, having eight (!) housing structures erected by 5pm that day"
You just want to be in a Weird Al video. Check out Jedidiah!State Farm is actually used to be the biggest insurer in the US by a wide margin 10 years ago. Progressive and Geico have made quite a bit of progress catching up in recent years. State Farm is like at 18% now and still the biggest.
The problem as I see it and our ROD under writer could speak better on this but from what I know the insurance companies use the Law of Big Numbers (yeah I know it sounds fake) and that's how the adjust their rates etc. It seems Cali wouldn't let them adjust their rates to offset the risk so they decided to cancel those policies.
That's not even including the bureaucrats fumbling of everything to which makes no sense as well to protect people. I'll stay off this subject as not to get into banned subjects.

Always thought it'll be cool to live with some Amish for a month and rename myself Jedidiah.
That's pretty much spot-on as far as the insurance component goes. The only thing left un-mentioned is the concept of adverse selection and that is more easily illustrated in a conversation about health insurance but applies here too.State Farm is actually used to be the biggest insurer in the US by a wide margin 10 years ago. Taking on too many risks in a high-brush/fire area increases the likelihood of future claims. You can take some of that on but you can't take it all.
All kinds of things were dumped into this bucket...past loss history (billions in fire losses in the last 5-7 yrs), post-Covid material inflation, new fire mapping that identified more high-risk areas among them.
At the end of the day with rate increases carriers could have made these other factors work but without them there was no way. So they non-renewed a shit-ton of policies, tightened their UW on new business or put a moratorium on new business or completely pulled out of the market altogether.
This was mishandled, as I've said now multiple times, from the get-go by the DOI.
Not a lot else to do when you have no electricity, cars, or alcohol. Every night just stuck in the dark.... might as well make that 15th child. Not to derail the thread, but apparently the Amish population is growing.
the estimated population of North American Amish in 2023 was 384,290 (6,100 in Canada), a 116% increase from 2000

Looks to be clear today for practice at least.

Naw, they have oil/kerosene lamps so they don't have to sit in the dark. They can use battery power for some reason, but not alternating current. Plus, there is a lot of sewing for 15 kids! Not a lot else to do when you have no electricity, cars, or alcohol. Every night just stuck in the dark.... might as well make that 15th child.
That's a great example of people helping people. I don't think that got enough play on the news.@Corbin
