I agree with your asemsment about neither action being 100% guaranteed victory but what about the injury risk putting the defense back on the field? Stopping short of the goal line is the smarter moveehh... I personally think he should have scored. its 99% win probability either way.
People are forgetting - what if we fumbled the snap on the next kneel down? It's unlikely but probably about the same chance as greg missing the extra point (97% from new distance career) PLUS the packers scoring a touch down in 30 secs with no timeouts.... plus getting the 2 pt conversion. The misconception is that it's "100% if he kneels down.. that's not true. Statistically its probably like 99.1 vs 99.7 or some crap. I'm not sure scoring the touchdown isn't actually the safer bet.
I like the sentiment of the action... but for all realistic purposes it didn't matter if he scored or not.
If it was a directive from McVay than he was doing what he was told.
But I'm with the poster above I want him to get the TD record...
