Yea, that's the problem it's all about the money to these guys. Just another way of stroking their over blown egos.
Maybe they earned it if they found the cure for cancer, but let's face facts they are just playing a game. How much would they be worth if all us fans just stopped watching football. I just canceled my Direct TV today and that BS NFL Sunday ticket.

The NFL makes insane amounts of money, the players play for a very short time. They should absolutely try to maximize their earnings. Maybe they can all come together and agree to make less, and guess what that accomplishes? Billionaire owners making even more money.

As far as I'm concerned they can let them all walk and take the comp picks. I am sick an tired of them handing out these big contracts to players and watching their play decline. Bring in guys that are hungry and not rich and complacent.

Old School, I am curious to the logic in giving my post here a Ha Ha emoji, please explain. I mean do you think I am kidding.

Maybe they didn't 'earn' their wealth the traditional way by inventing or creating something of physical value or developing a cure for cancer, etc., but they do provide a service which is highly valued in a capitalist society. You might watch a TV show like HBO's Ballers and think all these guys are a bunch of goofs who are playing the system, and guess what, ... many of them are, and laughing all the way to the bank. Many also are family men who were brought up poor and are now able to provide for a family and give back to their community. How is it any different from some punk Wall Street stock broker hitting on an opportunity and having it pay off massively ?

I stopped looking at a lot of these things as earnings and started seeing it more as being a lottery winner. Wealthy, successful athletes train, but they've also won the genetic lotto which allows them to be all they can be at a level above while the rest of us are sidelined, out of breath, and wondering if jogging that 5'th mile is gonna kill us. It may not feel fair when you're grinding out 60 hours a week at a job that isn't very rewarding, but win that next lottery and I bet you feel like you deserve it.

It's laughable. The only guys who want to win and work hard are guys that haven't gotten paid. It's laughable, your negativity and cynicism keep reaching new heights.

I could not be a fan and carry resentment for the salaries these players make.

It’s very simply a pay scale; Goff got paid starting QB money, Gurley was paid Offensive Player of the Year money.

Higbee is earning his extension.

Well, rookies for one. Then you have players who haven't been given the chance to start yet. Just like how Littleton sat behind Ogletree for a couple of years.
Yet if they haven't done it, then they are not comparable, whether rookie or back up. Littleton has done it on the NFL stage. You can't say that he is easily replaced with someone cheaper with any certainty.

Nor can you say with any certainty that he'll keep up his level of production if he gets paid. Or will he stay healthy. It's all a gamble you just have to trust the people in charge make more good decisions than bad.

Of course, just saying he has done it before (and he's young) which counts more for me than people with potential.

Perhaps, but people were not happy with us moving on from Laurinaitis when we did to go with CL. It might actually work out just as well if we move on from CL.

big age difference and talent difference between James L. and Littleton to me (comparing them as far as talent when both were in their primes)

Of course, some people just fear change. They grow attached to a personal favorite without regard to impact, CAP or future repercussions. There are a lot of casual fans who only see what's on the field and don't bother with the gears which make it turn. Laurinaitis is one example of a guy who was basically done while his buddy Chris Long was allowed to walk and still produced some good years at a reasonable price elsewhere, and getting two rings with two different teams in the process.
I wanted to move on from Laurinaitis years before we did, watched the same thing happen with Archuleta and many others, ... some fans as well as some coaches struggle letting go.

We want to trust our front office to do the right thing, then bitch about every move until it proves the wiser choice, ... or not. We see some teams relying more on analytics or a form of science if you will, and others appear to operate by emotion, school is still out on the relatively young McSnead association, and this is a pivotal year to witness how they will operate going forward, but I like what i've seen up to now and have no reason not to trust our direction. It's going to be an interesting off-season however it turns out.

Complete list of Rams 2020 free agents

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The natural churn of an NFL roster will see several Rams' contracts expire in 2020.

Below is the list of Rams set to become free agents (the new league year begins March 18, 2020):

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
*S Eric Weddle and CB Nickell Robey-Coleman have team options that can be picked up before the 2020 league year begins. If the options are not picked up, they become unrestricted free agents.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
*Players become unrestricted free agents if they have four or more accrued seasons when their contract expires. Restricted free agents have three accrued seasons, and exclusive rights free agents have two or fewer accrued seasons. The Rams can tender a contract and then match any offer made by another team to their restricted free agents, while exclusive rights free agents will either be offered and accept a contract from the Rams or not be offered a contract and become a free agent.

Years ago it used to bother me, meaning the money some players get.

These days I don't care. It's just not a big deal and they get what they can get.

Just like the rest of us.

I don't think anyone foolishly complaining about players salaries ever went to work and asked for a pay decrease for having a bad day.

If everything was perfect everyone would be on commission. That way you eat what you kill.

Interesting, I hadn't seen anywhere they were option years for those two. It lessens the trade value unless we make one before the league year starts which IIRC was March 16th? ish?

How much would anything be worth if we stopped consuming it/them?

If we all stopped buying stuff from Walmart, they'd be out of business too.

They may be playing a game, but it can have huge impacts on the community. Ask the city of New Orleans about the game after Katrina.

Also, saying they're playing a game is too simplified. These guys are probably putting in 60-80 hours per week during the season, and working out 40+ hours a week in the off-season.

Their job is extremely stressful in both a physical and mental capacity.

This was a very strange take.
