Halftime @ Bama. Simpson looked like dogshit in the first half. Threw a pick six. Then another INT in the endzone that was called back for penalty and saved his ass. They scored a TD on that drive, so he had a -14 quality first half.

So of course this is a good chance to get a look at whether he can focus and get his head right at the halfway point.

Mateer has been tough and run well, but he really needs to fix that arm motion. Which is why I think he's a perfect option for us (he'll be redshirted anyway).

Not to be nitpicky, but Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts would like a word......
Exceedingly rare. Also, in LJax's class taken before him were really nice QB options: J.Allen, Mayfield, Darnold. Restrospectively, one of the better QB drafts.

Hurts is similar; Burrow, Herbert, Love, Tua. Realistically, I'd prefer Herbert and Burrow to Hurts.

So, even in those examples, I'd prefer the earlier guys (or 1 in LJax case).

I still like Mateer a whole lot. The Sooner O-line is awful and gives no protection. I think they are starting 3 freshman due to injuries

Not saying he isn't good just something about it that I don't care for. I wouldn't be upset if we ended up with him but there are others I'd prefer.

This game result is going to be a real wake up for Simpson. He did some good things in the game. But overall he looked like the backup. That pass he threw late with the game on the line that came up short, wideout was open. It was there. He vapor locked in the big game.

Still a long way to go so not acting like this permanently mars him. But it's gonna hurt him in the way teams see the top dudes in this moment. He may end up being a below-the-top-dudes dude, remains to be seen. To overcome his size he is going to need to win some big ones in the days ahead. Otherwise maybe McVay will after all have a shot at him in the draft.

Yeah he's a scrappy sumbish. He's a competitor. Coaching can't teach that. QB either has it or he doesn't.

Feel like he's got a good chance to be a Ram if he comes out. My theory is some teams will not like that arm motion and fixing it is going to require time. Which means he may be available long enough for the Rams to get him. I like him with the last pick of round 1, we get that 5th year option and park his sidearming ass behind Stafford while he works on his throwing mechanics.

Don't draft a QB intending to fix his throwing motion. That is one of those things that almost never is fixable by the time a guy makes the NFL. Draft him if you think you can win with that throwing motion.

Well if that's true in terms of how GMs think it means there's a good chance he'll slide quite a bit.

But with his talent he's gonna be drafted. And I don't think that motion is going to cut it in the NFL. It's not impossible to pull off, I recall Romo saying he had to adjust his arm angle from sidearm, and also there can be more accuracy from vertical motion. Also if there were a team that fit him where he could screw with it during a redshirt year it's the Rams.

So wherever the team feels his adjusted value is in the draft given acknowledgement of that, assuming they agree with you, I'd take him just prior to that range.

I don't pretend to know anything. I just honestly believe Sean keeps it simple: Can he make all the throws with accuracy: If yes...
The game that matters to Sean begins: The mind. Does he have it? All these guys we, as fans, watch and evaluate...Sean eliminates those by following a formula that stresses what's important to him. That's what I predict without knowing anything,

I agree in principle but that doesn’t have to be in round 1 especially looking at this draft where some talented QBs haven’t lived up to expectations and so should be available in later rounds e.g round 2, to be potentially coached up
Exactly what I've been saying I think will happen all along. Unless Atlanta bottoms out, not really confident we'll have a shot at any top QBs. Any QB drafted will be a project type. I'd rather we reinforce or strengthen other areas of needs based on BPA if possible.

Way things are looking at this early juncture there's gonna be multiple X wideouts of legit outside-the-hash quality, as well as Edges. So as much as I'd like a QBotF if Stafford finishes out this year in his current form it allows the Rams to take BPA with an eye for year one impact then circle back for a QB they like if he's on the board where they value him.

I think slight move-ups for QB would be in play. But unless Stafford's form takes a nosedive we're probably looking at a conservative approach where they hope to snag value at the position then park him behind 9.

But back to those WRs Jordan Tyson is a damn beast and is 6'2". I was trying to watch Leavitt's tape and kept thinking to myself "damn this wideout is something woooo!" But beyond that Carnell Tate is 6'3", Denzel Boston is 6'4", Chris Brazzell is 6'5" and all have legit tape so if they run well it's hard to see McVay passing on something he almost never gets to consider where he usually drafts. There just aren't enough of these dudes who bring the quicks plus the size to the equation so they always end up in that early half of round 1.

And those Edges. Bailey, Height, Howell, Thomas, Faulk, Parker I mean are you kiddin me. And that's not counting Bain who is topping a lot of boards right now and is probably outside our reach.
Keep saying that WR Tyson is a legit bonafide stud WR. I know this isn't necessarily a need but another offensive weapon I'd love to somehow get on the team is Jeremyiah Love. Yes I know its mostly a remote possibility but talk about game breaking ability with elite burst. Reminds me of a Gibbs in college.

I agree. But a lot can happen between now and April 2026. Evaluations can change based on performance the rest of this season. Evaluations can change at the Senior Bowl. NFL players can be injured or disappoint. Lots of things can change. Also, it doesn't have to be for a QB. It could be for a LT. Or a stud WR. Or a stud RB. I guess my point is, the Rams have the advantage. They have Atlanta's pick and if someone wants it, they're gonna have to give Snead what he's asking so...... if you really want to move up, move up!
I'd love Jeremyiah Love or Tyson on this offense. Please don't ruin my wet dream just for imagining it lol

While we don't have a need at HB, I too would love to see Love in this offense. Explosive runner and a gifted receiver. Could give us what prime Todd Gurley did.

Not sure that's completely true, some mechanics can be improved with coaching. Aaron Rodgers and Josh allen both had mechanical "flaws" that coaching helped improve. And then there are the guys like Kosar and Rivers who were quite successful with awkward release points

Agreed.
I'm starting to think that the Rams best case scenario for the future at the QB spot might be another "trade of the decade" for someone who is currently on another team. A proven player on a team that decides to get younger ......... like we did with Stafford and Goff.
This draft, perhaps it makes sense to get another top wide out and CB.
Taking a 2nd round OL would be my next choice, depending on who the BPA is by then at either the C or T position.
All of this is predicated on Stafford wanting to, and being able to play at this level for about another 2 years or more.
