Penix is not leader.
He showed who he is in the championship game last year.
He’s soft.
I liked his film coming out. So I get why Morris drafted him. But this recent interview and his comments are a bad indicator for him because I doubt Morris would leave his young QB all alone. Just doesn't wash given what I think of Morris. Which means you may be right about him not being a leader but time will tell.

Well if they’re not giving up more than a 1st in ‘27, I can’t see the Rams selling unless it’s to a team they think will be a potential bottom dweller. And even that would be unlikely.

‘27 would have to be remarkably better and I don’t see it. If someone covets a pick in ‘26 enough to move up, they’re paying to do it. They’re not simply swapping picks a year removed. The ‘27 class would have to be absolutely loaded with sure fire, can’t miss picks.
It’s looking good in terms of QBs but you are right in that we thought that about 2026. Personally, I still believe Arch Manning will eventually be one of the best in this 2026 2027 2028 group

I think you are going to see significant changes in these media driven draft rankings in a couple months.

For example, just like the QBs, some of the EDGE players you've listed haven't performed up to their preseason ratings. To date, Bain, Faulk, & Parker have a total of 7 sacks combined. (BTW, Bailey got some splaining to do about going after a media member after a game). And some won't have the measurables NFL team prefer in higher draft choices. In other words, some of these guys may still be on the board at the Rams original draft selection.
What is noteworthy is the positional depth in the early going.

Wideouts for example may all run terrible 40s and change how that group looks. But I don't think that is going to happen. And McVay will be seeing the type of wideouts he normally can't sniff in his typical draft because he picks too late.

Edge there's a lot more at play than sack totals. I've watched a few of them so far, and I'm seeing combination of raw ability as well as pressures and contain. Type of things that are going to result in a bit of a run on Edge in the early going. It's a good group at the top.

The comments most have seen were taken out of context. He was asked about influences away from the team.

No doubt there will be a run on EDGE talent. But we are talking about a potential top 12-15 or so selection. Those guys have got to finish the deal with sack production to be worthy of a selection that high, IMO. Besides a larger pool just means more potential options, some of which could be on the board at or near that second 1st rounder. BTW, if Young continues his play I don't believe the Rams are going to let him go anywhere. It will be the Verse & Young show for years to come at the expense of perhaps Turner, & Avila.

Gonna get my sperg on here and say Drafts are relative. So there is no set rule on what an Edge has to be in order to go high. In a good year I agree your top dudes will see high sack totals. But this is also about projection.

Take TJ Parker as an example. We can knock him for only having 2 sacks and say he's not a quick twitch athlete. But he's the same dude who had double digit sacks last season. And I think the 20 tackles for loss overall are what impress me most about his 2024 season. His game is power, which is not usually prioritized over the bendy bastids. But power plays at the NFL level, look at Verse as an example of that. And he also had a new DC this year iirc.

Now is Parker an ideal pairing for Verse? Probably not. But power ends play in our division. They play vs SF. They play vs Philly. So I'd say he's one of several Edge who are very much in play for the Rams.

The entire draft is about projection. And each draft class is different. But, off the top of my head, I struggle to recall EDGE players selected in the top 15 or so selections of any draft class that didn't have sack production during their final season that panned out.

Can't really weigh in on that one either way tbh. Not with my memory at least. Also it sounds like a painful thing to look up.

Agree. Thing is, trading away a 2026 first for a 2027 first would also bring another pick in the 3rd or 4th round.
Or a 2nd - like it did this past draft with the falcons. ;)
Plus their 1st rounder pick will be much better than the 1st round pick they got from us.

Edit: forgot they got our 3rd. So maybe a net 3rd gain is about right.

Absolutely. All we heard about was 'Arch is prolly gonna stay in school but man that Lanorris Sellers is gonna be a stud!" That latter part changed, didn't it. And today's game is evidence of that fact.

Truth is it doesn't matter what we think we see or what the talking heads say. What matters is what the Rams think. Do they want to make 2 first round picks? Do they want to move down? Up? Do they want a QB? A LT (in lieu of the latest news about Alaric AND his clot issues)? An Edge? A stud WR? We don't know diddily.

It is fun to speculate as long as we remember it's 100% speculation. It wouldn't be the first time we didn't have a clue what these guys were thinking.

What makes me feel GREAT is, right now we have 2 first round picks and we're playing lights out!

Did they fire their OL Coach?
Last month.

Not for me. I'd still take a shot on Sellers. This is the perfect situation for him.

South Florida just found out when you mess with the bull you get the horns (Go Navy woooo!).

Before the season I thought there would be a number of quarterbacks with franchise potential. Now I'm not sure there is anyone I'd use a first round pick on. Definitely would not trade up for one. I think they should get a commitment from Stafford for at least two more years and stop going year to year. Then use those picks to draft an OT and CB. We're already committed to Kyren so drafting a running back early is not a good option. Which is why I think the extension could have waited.

If Stafford commits that could be LT-WR! Not necessarily in that order.

Agreed. If Young gets close to leading the league in sacks, I don't think they trade that away or let him go. It's too important a skillset.
