Joel Klatt brought up a good point yesterday. There is no structure to making the CFP. It's an arbitrary judgement by the committee. If they had a couple of rules for making it, it would be better.

I would like something like.....

minimum 9 wins
beating 3 ranked opponents (at the time)
then the highest ranked "at large" teams who beat 2 ranked opponents AND have 9 wins filling out the field of 12.

It would force teams to have a tougher non conference schedule instead of beating up on 4 or 5 Cupcake U's

Some will say that when they go to 16 teams it will solve everything....
I just wish they would pick the 12 best teams and let the field work it out
Cinderella isnt going to win the CFP, they need to stop pandering to the idea

To continue pandering to the idea, they penalize teams who should be there. If Virginia beats Duke they're in. Virginia will not sniff winning a quarter in the CFP. James Madison? Tulane? Sure penalize Texas. Penalize Vanderbilt. They should have Virginia and James Madison play Texas and Vanderbilt. If they beat them, they're in. If not Texas and Vandy are in.

The committee is terrible. Everybody says so. I heard Urban Meyer say, "Jerry Dinardo told me some of those guys are so busy they have interns watch the game and tell them how the team looked". Isn't that the same thing that happens to the coaches poll? Like Klatt said, have a rigid structured set of parameters to qualify teams for CFP. If there are ties then have the sportswriters (or some group who watches the games) vote on who wins the tiebreakers.

This^ James Madison & Tulane over the likes of Texas, Miami or Notre Dame is a disgrace. If you want a Cinderella story, go watch Russell Crowe portray James Braddock in Cinderella Man, what a travesty. Freaking Tulane, who everyone confuses with Tulsa, another great show with Stallone.

Great movie. One of my all time favorites. So who's gonna win the turtle this year? Ohio St. again?

When they pander to the Cinderella story, they make it easier for the teams actually good enough to win the title. Let's see.....one team gets to play Virginia instead of Texas, another gets to play James Madison instead of Vanderbilt? When they pander to those lesser teams they rob college football fans of a better quality playoff.

Been a great run, sure hope so, but I understand how others would root against them. However, I love Ryan Day winning with humility. I expect his next move will be the NFL, but that won't be for several more years IMHO.

Love that movie too, watched it a dozen times. Does not showcase Max Bear in the greatest of light, but back then I guess since nobody had money, if you had it, you could be a jerk and nobody cared.

There are plenty of guys with money who are jerks in today's climate. That hasn't changed. And there are plenty of sychophants.

Notre Dame actually had a better overall record than Miami considering 1 of Miami’s wins was against a D1aa school
10-2 is better than 9-2

Need to add BYU to this discussion, they probably won't make it either

I'd put Bama ND and Miami all about equal. They all likely would be teams watching the Bowl Championship not playing in it. But we expanded to the point where they'll likely be in it. Personally I'd put ND ahead of the other two. I think I'd rather see Texas or Vandy in over Miami and Bama at this point.

The final 12 will be a disgrace and an assault on fans intelligence. Even if you move James Madison, who didn't deserve to be ranked in the first place, up significantly, there are too many deserving teams between JMU and the top 10. Hell Iowa would beat JMU, Tulane, North Texas and probably a number of top 25 teams beyond that.

I'd put Texas and Vanderbilt into the top 12, replacing Alabama and BYU and we'd have a hellified CFP. This is not the time for tune up games.....like non conference games in December.....but we're gonna see 2 of them. After the performance of Indiana and Ohio St. last night, it's a slap in the face travesty to put undeserving teams in the tourney.

Participation trophys don't belong in college football!!!!

Alabama needs to be out. The discussion should never have been Miami vs ND, but why the committee protected Bama.
Auburn exposed them and Georgia undressed them

you know their going to put Alabama in over Miami

frick'in SEC BS

they need to expanded the Playoffs to 24 teams

Iowa was ranked 23 in the Playoff Rankings

if this was a 24 game Playoffs , it would have been IOWA all the way baby !!!!

Curt Cignetti

I just dont get it

every single year , there is probably 2 dozen new coaches all through out college football

every single year

name one that has done what Curt Cignetti has done

Indiana , a bottom feeder of the Big Ten , for like the last 50 years

2021 , 0-9 in Big Ten Play
2022 , 2-7 in Big Ten Play
2023 , 1-8 in Big Ten Play

Enter Curt Cignetti

2024 , 8-1 in Big Ten Play , College Playoffs
2025 , 9-0 in Big Ten Play , College Playoffs , #1 Seed

How do you do that in only one year ,

it's not like Indiana had multiple 10 top recruiting classes , or a massive transfer class , their transfer class ranked like 11th in just the Big Ten ,

so , someone explain what Curt Cignetti has been able to do ,

it's not like he took over a team that has had great success in the past , and just had a couple recent down years

what Curt Cignetti has done at Indiana , is , well

impossible

So they both get in?

Indiana, Georgia, Ohio St., Texas Tech with byes....

James Madison vs Oregon (boy that ought to be a fun watch, eh? )
Tulane vs Ole Miss (probably a better game but still a rout)
Miami vs Texas A & M (one and done after all that arguing?)
Alabama vs Oklahoma...(should have been Notre Dame!!!!)

The spirit of college football has been sold to the highest bidder. Between NIL and the transfer portal on steroids, it’s not about student athletes anymore. I grew up in Virginia and pulled for the Cavaliers this year but they were a purchased team, 50 transfers. The Bowl season has always been about money and these playoffs are more of the same. All the other Bowls are going to die off in the long run. They already are suffering attendance woes.

As far as ND being left out, it is more about forcing them to join a conference and about no ACC school was going to be in the playoffs if Miami wasn’t selected. Might as well expand the playoffs to 16 teams now and do away with the byes. You are pulling from a pool of about 120 teams. I’m not sure how you think selecting anything less won’t always end in controversy.
