The only reason we are comparing Simpson to these two is because of his stature. His game is better and could be elite under McVay. That’s if we rate reading defenses; throwing on time; throwing on keepers; and being involved in play design. Simpson has elite pedigree going all the way back to high school

I think his ceiling is Montana, Brees and Rogers. His floor is Purdy and Nix. I posted Rogers scouting report and guess what it’s similar. He was a polarising prospect who many fans were plain wrong about. He fell to the 20s. He sat behind a hall of famer. He had injury concerns and people said they would carry forward. He wasn’t big enough. Nada nada nada

I believe Simpson will be better than Purdy which to me is a big deal. As for whether he can be great? None of us can know but if the most likely predictor or future performance is past we can expect him to be best in the West and a stud

I would love to see what he can do behind a solid OL with studs at the skill positions. I would take him and Bernard and feel very happy about it even if it required us to trade up for his WR at the top of the second.

For me Bernard might be the best straight up WR in this class outside of Tyson and Tate. He’s going to be a good player for years

Simpson with the no look pass. Also, his processing seems really elite. Love the way he slings it. Wonder how Mac feels....

He projected Mark Sanchez as superior to Matthew Stafford??? Link please...?
Like you, I was curious about @RamFan503's post ... that man is a renowned Charlatan and Grifter by-the-way ... so I did a quick search. 503's post is accurate ... he is an Amazing human being ... a Real Gem!

Go to your browser an type todd mcshay past quarterback evaluations.
First Article to come-up is an ESPN piece from April 2018 (prior to the 2018 Draft) where McShay (to his credit) provides his Ratings and Draft Rankings for every 1st Round Quarterback for the prior 10 years (2008 - 2017).

Hits and Misses (Mahomes and Gabbert). Good Read. Provides a Good Perspective for over-trusting posters.

Yeah, very simply NOT TRUE that
McShay had Sanchez over Stafford

I have never been a huge fan but to be fair to McShay his record on QBs is good! Especially if you include the first round QBs he didn’t like! I think part of the problem on his misses is he used to go too heavy on traits such as mental toughness rather than what they were capable of on film

I love the thinking around here. ALL TV anylysts BAD, WRONG. Forum guys GOOD, RIGHT, LOL

That's weak of you ... both guys came-out in 2009. McShay's Ratings and Rankings were EXTREMELY close but he did give Sanchez a higher-Grade than Stafford (96-95) ... AND ... McShay's pre-Draft-Rating was also higher ... 7th for Sanchez and 8th for Stafford.

That information is from the ESPN article I referenced, that was written by Todd McShay.

503's comment was accurate. You requested the source, and you got it.

Interesting and it may reflect how evaluations slightly change leading-up to the Draft.

However, you are STILL referencing a source written by some guy named Jimmie Morris about the topic of Todd McShay QB Ratings/Rankings ... and ... I am referencing a source written by TODD McSHAY himself.

I commented on your source (and by-the-way @TheTackle's article ... written by some guy named Matt Goul ... is also interesting) but you continue to IGNORE the article written by YOUR GUY ... Todd McShay!

Im sorry that me trusting Todd McShay over A2M in Quarterback rankings offends you. Ill start to turn my attention to board posters who rely on memes over verbalization for the TRUE verdicts. New Leaf turned over...starting now.

Seeing all the posts on Simpson and he might be a good to very good QB. But how will his health hold up over a full NFL season.

3 injuries plus gastritis in his only year playing QB in college? We would be taking a huge risk taking Simpson with that history.

There were a number of college QBs that had very good years in 24 and were projected to be high picks. The next year they didn't look so good. Now they are projected to be mid round.
Simpson only played 1 season and came out blazing. Then not so much. Injuries and sickness seems to be the blame. Whatever. He has way to small a sample size. Less than half a season where you can say he was good enough to play in the NFL. How many times have we seen a player regress after a good season, never to recapture the high level of play. Teams watch film and develop strategies to take away what they do well. Then the QB needs to have time to adjust and so on.

The Manning kid looked great in a game or 2 subing for Texas, then struggled when he started for a season. No college QB should be taken in the 1st round with Simpson's sample size.

Agreed. But of course given the importance of the position, and basic supply/demand it seems like it has a good chance to happen this year.

In the end it's about whether Simpson can sustain starting play at this level. I don't doubt he can be a starter. But even that's not a certainty, given real concerns with him to include the sample size. And in the end McVay is not the type of coach who wants a mediocre QB so for him to stick with the Rams would require hitting the lottery on him.

All my negatives aside with this dude I do wonder what McVay could do with him. He did, after all, win a lot of games with Cousins at QB and made it to a title game with Goff. But McVay's general high standards with his QB makes me think the 2027 draft is where we'll get our QBotF. Whether we hit on that pick or not.

The draft is a crapshoot.

I’d go 3rd round if he was still there.

But being a QB with flashes of high level play, I’d expect mid to late first round.

Not gonna be surprised at a top 10 though.
I pray someone takes Simpson top 10. Increases odds that we get a much better player to pick from. Simpson is being severely overrated in a shit draft class for QBs.

For all those thinking we should take Drew Allar on day three rather than Simpson, this made me laugh
Funny thing about him is I never liked the staff he was under and I wonder what he would have done in one of the offenses with better players and scheme.

But on the other side of that coin I don't want to fall into that rabbit hole of belief system required for a dude like him. I'm not a big upside lover when it comes to QBs so he's 100% the type of QB that I do not like. I'd much rather have Simpson or one of the other smaller framed QB2s in this draft.

All that aside though Allar does make sense if McVay and the staff like the actual kid and think he's willing to do the work to fix his feet. However the fact his feet are that bad has to carry some indications that he isn't willing to do the work. Meaning I am not comfortable blaming everything on that staff he played under.

Because he will BE better than Christian Ponder. Just like Purdy is and he was drafted in the 7TH Round.
What tells you he'll be any good? To me, his sample size is way too small. There's a stat out there that QBs with very minimal college starts mostly end up being shit in the NFL. It's extremely possible that Simpson will blow and I personally wouldn't be that surprised. NFL is a whole different beast than college.
