I wonder if in the back of McVay's brilliant mind he's trying to keep Gurley fresh for the playoffs? But we need to stop the run, I still say this could derail us in the big game.

While I would like to see us run the ball more, I am also wondering if McVay is saving Gurley for the playoffs. I know he has been nicked up in a couple games and he has carried a pretty big load thus far. With Brown out, it is probably even more in McVay's mind. Gurley has already had almost as many rushes as he had last season and is averaging 22.5 touches per game. I'm just not sure we can expect McVay to push him all that hard over the next few games.

When I read your point of maybe saving Todd for the post season it makes sense until you factor in last year Todd was averaging 7.2 yards per rush put only got the ball 14 times? WTH? Lol that breaks my logic to that ya know? Sometimes it reminds me when I get pass happy playing Madden and this 8 yr old I’m probably playing on the internet is stopping any madgenious play design I do! Lol

Gurley's numbers mainly look lacking during losses because teams pass the ball more when playing from behind and run the ball more when trying to run the clock out.
I understand where you are coming from JJab but if McVay is going to just pass no matter what without setting up the Run then we are one dimensional and waaaay easier to defend.

Case in point with the Dcoaches of the Bears knowing McVay tends to abandon the run after tough 3 and outs they will just play zone/nickel/dime schemes and have us play to their D.
I dunno about that... exaggeration, if you ask me.

Martz winning percentage: .624
McVay winning percentage: .759

And Martz never gave one indication that he needed to change. In fact, he went right on killing quarterbacks with 8 step drops and long-developing routes long after he left the Rams.

McVay seems more open to change... but he needs to show me that he can, actually, change (when needed).

Martz never budged one ounce... his ego was the size of Alaska. "Max Q"... thought it was goofy then... still do.

There'll be no gimmicky catch phrases with McVay... so far, all he's doing is winning... with more consistency than The Mad Scientist.

All that being said... McVay needs to commit to the run. He needs to remember how important it is to opening up the rest of his playbook. It's hard... itr takes time... and it's not instant gratification, like the pass is. But it's necessary.

If I were him, I'd assign one gopher to come over the headphones every few plays and yell at me "DON'T FORGET THE RUN!!!"
:ROFLMAO:

McVay hasn’t had as many games as Martz, who’s to say that winning % holds true? Martz’s Winning % 2 years in was pretty good to! Lol

I agree 100% on the change when needed part. Judging from the short period I’ve seen him here ( practically try and watch or listen to 100% of his interviews I come across) he seems intelligent. Just needs some wisdom to mix in with that. Unfortunately wisdom usually comes from mistakes and heartache... :(

Lmao I’d love him to hire some hardcore run guru to help him mix in perfect run plays now and again and remind him to set up the run once the pass is or vice versa. Even Bellecheat has multiple checks and balances in his system.

He claims after the game inn his presser he will learn from it.

The ATL loss and this Bears loss should teach him what he needs to know. It doesn't matter how good your passing offense is when the defense knows it's coming. When your QB is throwing into a nickel defense all game long while under a lot pressure it's very difficult to move the ball.

I know this is an 11-2 team, and I don't begrudge losing, even a bad team can beat a good team and we see that every single week in the NFL. Losses happen. My position, along with others like you, is the HC is repeating a mistake, and it's an easy one to fix. He has a tendency that opponents see, and even we fans have noticed, which means it's obvious.

I could understand if the RB position was manned by a stiff, but Gurley is All-World.

I believe you'll find this is a recurring statistic league-wide and I doubt that you'll find many teams that have more rushing attempts in losses than wins
While true, most of these games the Rams were never really too far behind to validate abandoning the run, only against NO really. The rest of those games the scores were either tied or close entering the 4th qtr.

Rams 20 Redskins 27 - Ru. 16 Yds. 88 Avg. 5.5
Rams 10 Seagulls 16 - Ru. 14 Yds. 43 Avg. 3.1
Rams 7 Vikings 24 - Ru. 15 Yds. 37 Avg. 2.5
Rams 35 Eagles 43 - Ru. 13 Yds. 96 Avg. 7.4
Rams 13 Falcons 26 - Ru. 14 Yds. 101 Avg. 7.2
Rams 35 Saints 45 - Ru 13 Yds. 68 Avg. 5.2
Rams 6 Bears 15 - Ru. 11 Yds. 28 Avg 2.5

.

Add to that this loss
Rams 23 Eagles 30 - Ru 12 Yds. 48 Avg. 4

Common theme each one of our losses Gurley not utilized on the ground and don't tell me it's " McVay taking what the defense gives him"

Why did he under utilize Gurley at other times when he was averaging 5-7 yards a carry?

McVay needs to give Couch Boone a call to solve our whoaa's

I think Gurley is dealing with something other than just your usual bumps and bruises this time of the season. No one from outside the organization will know for sure while they are still playing meaningful football. I’ve seen it in his body language on the field and in his pressers. JMO.

I see the body language to but I seen it with Fisher Ball to. He’s not getting the rock and he knows it and he doesn’t want to make a huge spectical of it but he knows he’s the key to victory. You feel it as a runner, slowly grinding away at the defense and feeling their will slowly start to wilt away. Is the same kind of feeling you get working through holes and traffic, just a feeling you get upon contact and body language of the defense throughout the game.
