No offense to the OP. But this is a non starter. And beyond the scope of possibilities. I'm good with stafford
No offense taken, just started it for the sake of a starting a what if conversation. Honestly never thought this was a remote possibility at all. I'm also good with Stafford so don't take this as I don't like Stafford or anything like that.

McVay has a man crush on Stafford.
Stafford is his dream QB.

With that said, We should keep a look out in case we find McVay and Watson hanging out in Cabo together.

Sorry, I know it's hypothetical but Watson isn't going anywhere, geographically or professionally, it seems, remaining with the Texans .

This is correct, I was getting pissed off at the therams.com they have not updated the roster. Then I realized can't be done until the new year. March 17/21

Even for a younger QB? Not sure it would necessarily hurt that as I can't see a GM not understanding getting a top 5 talent like Watson instead. Reneging definitely not a good look but if you can counter with, but it was for DeShaun Watson, then I think that helps. Not saying it would happen but appreciate it view point.

No. Either your word means something or it doesn’t.

It could mean we wanted Watson more lol.......like I said just started this convo just for fun as I know it ain't happening. Think we'll be totally happy with Stafford.

While I agree with the morality of the statement, I wouldn't necessarily be upset by it either. In the not for long league, loyalty in the NFL is a myth.

It's not about loyalty. If you're willing to break your word to your protégé and stab him in the back like that, there's not another team in the NFL that's going to trust you, same with agents and players. For a guy who trades as much as Snead does, reputation can make and break deals. The same is true in FA. Keep in mind that a bunch of FAs agree to deals before FA technically starts. Snead ruining his credibility like that could very well cost him his career.

It’s a great topic. Makes us all think a little.

We are here for topics... it’s the off-season... the more the better! (y)

the Texans called and asked the Rams to throw in one more 1st rounder along with what was offered to the Lions to get DeShaun Watson?

I know it's very unlikely to back out of a deal for Stafford but I just was wondering out loud since him and the Texans are at a stand still.
Isn’t our next first rounder in 2081?

I see your point, but just to play devil's advocate, highly doubt the Lions wouldn't be too sad if what the Panthers offered was still available. Besides do we truly know what deals are made behind closed doors then reneged. Everyone knows Snead is wheeling and dealing for the best out there. Not sure it would entirely ruin his whole career but he would get the side eye from his peers for sure.

Also... Watson isn't gonna be traded before 3/17 so it's moot.

IF, IF, IF Watson is traded, it'll be right before the draft.

but the Houston FA is such a complete and total clusterfuck that they'll likely not only not trade Watson, but won't draft a QB until late and have to start someone like Blake Bortles or some other QB castaway while Watson sits out.

I dunno. I struggle with belligerent incompetence and there's so much coming from Houston that it gives me a headache...

Does the NFL have the right to ban the Houston front office for blatant stupidity and conduct detrimental to the league?

If other teams and agents don't trust you to stand behind your word once you make a deal, it's going to be very hard to make high-profile trades and signings.

Like I said, definitely understand your point and agree. Just playing devil's advocate just for the sake of conversation. I sometimes do wonder if there is indeed a level of "dirtyness" that we know nothing about in relation to these business dealings. Can't tell me it doesnt happen cuz at the end of the day I'm sure it does. Not saying Snead is that way as he seems to just know what he wants in terms of plan A, B, and C, doesn't BS and goes on trying to get them done in that order. I really appreciate that about him. Now in terms of our current contract extensions, that's a bit of a different story.

No cap, no lie, no blue font, they absolutely can.

All major sporting leagues can force the sale of a franchise for "conduct unbecoming" as defined in their franchise agreements.

There have been a few teams over the years when a team wasn't being run well and the league, quietly or otherwise, sent messages that "get right or we force a sale"
