Mariota is a running QB. Yes, he can throw, but his biggest plays happen because of his feet. And for some "unknown" reason......running QBs seem always to be beaten up a bit more than pocket passers.
Unless your bradford.

I'd love to see Aaron Donald rag doll Marcus Marriota like he did to Wussel Wilson and the Rams win the NFC West based on them winning instead of depending on other teams performance.

Behind Enemy Lines: An Inside Look at the Rams
Jim Wyatt/Senior Writer/EditorTitansOnline.com

TitansOnline.com Senior Writer and Editor Jim Wyatt gives an inside look at the Los Angeles Rams with Gary Klein, who covers the Rams for the Los Angeles Times.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.

The Titans are coming off a 25-23 loss to the 49ers, a loss that dropped the team’s record to 8-6.

The Rams are coming off a 42-7 at Seattle, and are now 10-4.

This week, I caught up with Gary Klein, who covers the Rams for the Los Angeles Times.

Here’s how our conversation went…

Wyatt: Hey Gary. Well, the Rams are one of the NFL’s most improved teams this season. After finishing 4-12 last season, when the team parted ways with Jeff Fisher, the Rams are now 10-4 and a win away from clinching the NFC West. How surprised are you with the turnaround?

Klein: Well, I knew there was a possibility for great improvement, simply because the Rams hired an offense-minded coach to help nurture Jared Goff, and every move the Rams made during the offseason, including the hiring of head coach Sean McVay, was made to help his development. But I think most people are surprised they are contending for a division title with a chance to finish the season with 12 wins.

Wyatt: This is McVay’s first head coaching job. He’s just 31 years old. But he’s already being billed as a genius by some. What has impressed you most about him?

Klein: I think for being so young, and for not ever having been a head coach, I have been impressed with his offensive scheme, and with his ability to instill a new culture, if you will, with one of the youngest teams in the league. And I think he and the front office, they’ve done a good job bringing in some veteran players who have influenced the younger guys, not only with their performance on the field, but with their presence in the locker room.

Wyatt: I think Goff’s improvement has surprised many as well. He’s thrown for 3,503 yards, with 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. A year ago he threw for just over 1,000 yards with five touchdowns and seven INTs. Did you see such a dramatic turnaround coming for him, and how has it happened?

Klein: Jared Goff, looking at him from afar, people thought the Rams made a mistake by picking him. They thought he was struggling and he wasn’t going to be able to improve. But if you watched enough NFL football, part of it was that he was a rookie, and he just needed a chance to kind of get his feet wet and develop.

And now the Rams have hired a coach who has a history of helping quarterbacks, and scheming on offense. So I am not surprised that Jared Goff has developed. I think he still has room to grow. I don’t think by any means he is a finished product, or that he is a superstar.

He still has a long ways to go. But I think with McVay, and with offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, the offensive coordinator, and with Greg Olson, the team’s quarterbacks coach, they have a pretty good dynamic combination that’s helping him.

Wyatt: As good as Goff has been throwing the ball, running back Todd Gurley has been real workhorse for the Rams. He’s already racked up 1,817 scrimmage yards, including 1,187 and 13 rushing touchdowns. He’s being talked about as MVP of the NFL. Has he clearly been MVP of the Rams, and how good has he been all season?

Klein: Well, he really has been the thread their offensive success is kind of built upon. His ability to run, and the offensive line’s improved play, has opened things up for Goff and the receiving corps, which has also been upgraded. Gurley’s ability to run, and really this season his ability to catch passes out of the backfield has made him a multi-purpose threat. It really has been the key to the Rams offense.

Wyatt: OK Gary, last question here, and I appreciate you doing this: How has the Rams fan base been? With the Chargers and Rams both in town now, it’s sort of created a competition for fans in the city. How has Los Angeles embraced the Rams being back?

Klein: I think the Rams knew they had a process when they moved back here after being gone for more than two decades. It wasn’t like fans were just going to instantly be attracted to the Rams. This is Los Angeles, and if you don’t win, fans are not going to come. And the Rams struggled last year. They had some initial excitement, then they really struggled, and fans stayed away.

And I think even initially this season, fans were hesitant to embrace them. But now that they are winning, I think there is an upsurge in interest and in enthusiasm, and if the Rams can kind of keep it going, I think we’ll see them embraced, just like any winning team in Los Angeles.

Injuries

Cornerback Logan Ryan(ankle) and defensive lineman Karl Klug (groin) did not practice on Wednesday.

Linebacker Derrick Morgan(knee) practiced on a limited basis, and quarterback Brandon Weeden was excused for person reasons.

Also, cornerback LeShaun Sims (hamstring) was limited as well.

“He just did it 40 minutes ago,” coach Mike Mularkey said of Sims. “So well know more after we get the MRI.”

Kalan Reed’s chance?

With Ryan held out and Sims now dealing with a hamstring injury, Mularkey was asked about scenarios in the secondary for Sunday’s game vs. the Rams.

Cornerback Kalan Reed has been on the 53-man roster all season, but he’s been among the team’s inactives for 13 of 14 games.

Mularkey said he’d be ready if needed.

“He has really practiced extremely well, and he has done a great job four our ‘look team’,” Mularkey said of Reed. “He has really been absolutely somewhat of a pain as a cover guy. The unfortunate part is you have to put somebody down and with the numbers, he’s that guy right now.

“But if he came up. … He studies it every week like he’s playing so if he came up he would be prepared if that’s the case.”

I smell another blowouut. Mariota, especially with his injuries, may not make it the whole game.

Titans Podcast: Full Rams Preview
Getting set for Sunday
By Terry A. Lambert

The Tennessee Titans are limping down the stretch. The road doesn’t get easier this weekend, it actually ramps up quite a bit as the Rams come to town. The number one scoring offense in the league will provide a seemingly impossible challenge for a struggling Titans’ offense to keep up.

The Rams’ offense is loaded, starting up front with the offensive line. Todd Gurley is in the middle of an outstanding season. Jared Goff has bounced back from a down rookie year, throwing the ball to Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. There’s a lot to worry about here.

We’ll dive into all of that, taking a deeper look at the numbers and specific matchups. As always, we’ll be back on Monday morning with a reaction podcast.

The one thing I would change about the Titans season is the regression of Marcus Mariota
It has been tough to watch!
By Jimmy Morris

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The SB Nation NFL blogs have a theme we all write about every Wednesday. Today’s theme is “the one thing I would change about my team’s season is...” That is a pretty tough one because there are quite a few things to chose from here. I could pick the play calling, or all of the hamstring injuries, or the outcome of the West Coast trip that the Titans just wrapped up.

Ultimately, I decided that the one thing I would change about the Titans season is the regression we have seen in Marcus Mariota. It has been a brutal year for him, and it has us all wondering what he will look like going forward- especially if there are no changes to the coaching staff. He needs to be running and up-tempo, spread-type offense. Mike Mularkey wants to run a slow, tight offense. Those two things haven’t gelled this season.

We all thought the Titans had a chance to be a contender heading into this season. The biggest reason we felt that way was because of how well Mariota played last season. Now we are left wondering, even if this team does make the playoffs, if the Mariota-Mularkey marriage will ever be anything better than just above average.
------------
At least he fixed the fumble issue
I that no other player this year has 0 fumbles with that many touches of the ball.
----------
Not as disappointed in MM as i am of Murray
Murray was a huge piece of this offense last year. And if the receivers would not make drops and run the right routes things could be a lot different. Big Ben interception rate just as high just touch down ratio is higher.

Not letting him off the hook for his mistakes but there are a lot of problems with this team.
---------
DeMarco Murray's decline was expected, Marcus Mariota's regression wasn't...
If you look at the numbers that RBs like Murray put up after big years then, more often than not, they show a big decline in the following one. Big years from RBs come with lots of bruising hits, and, to a certain extent, such years also mean being lucky with injuries. Those two factors alone usually catch up to them the following year, and many in that situation don’t even complete 16 games let alone match expectations in them.

I think most Titans fans were of the opinion that Murray’s role would gradually decline and Derrick Henry’s role would gradually increase, anyway. Obviously there have been times this season when Henry’s been given carries that Murray would have been given last year but, given Murray’s relatively poor year, Henry probably should have had even more of them.

Mariota was expected to do great things this year, especially with the addition of WRs Corey Davis and Eric Decker (plus others) to his receiving corps. However, for various reasons – ineffective line play, poor support from the running game, his injuries, Davis’s injury, Decker’s issues, playcalling (such as not running enough play-action), etc – he’s been worse rather than better than he was last year.

Plenty of people would have predicted that Murray wouldn’t be as good, but that Mariota would be better. Many had Mariota down to break into that top tier of QBs who get called "elite". Sadly, because of his poor TD to INT ratio it just hasn’t worked out that way.

Credit where credit is due though, even in a down year Mariota has managed to improve some aspects of his game. He’s gone from being one of the most fumble-prone players in the NFL to not fumbling at all, which is no mean feat.

Lastly, I’ll offer this: if we had lost Murray for the season at any point we would still have had an effective running game, thanks to Henry and others, but if we had lost Mariota for the season then you can bet your bottom dollar that we would have missed him ten times as much. We saw how bad our offense was without him for a game or so, I just don’t want to imagine how bad things would have been had he been out for longer than that.
-----------
It’s not that he needs to be in an up-tempo offense.
He just needs to be in an offense from this decade. The splits that the Wideouts have on a decent amount of plays are baffling.
---------
He looked like a different QB last week. Comfortable, decisive, in charge. It looked like his offense. The indecision, insececurity, and skittishness in the pockets we’ve seen over the past 6-7 weeks was gone. It was great to see and fun to watch. We can run with anyone when he plays like that.
-----------
Jon Robinson obviously is a smart guy and probably has a very good football mind.
If we can see all the issues and nonsense with this offense, Robinson has to be able to see it as well.

When he gets an to see up close how McVay uses Goff and how Mularkey uses Mariota, I think he’s gonna want to bang his head against a well. I think Robinson will seriously start to have doubts, if not already.

two words for you: Brice Mccain

we're not winning this game with our 4th stringer starting

they could miss every FG attempt and PAT and it wont matter.. We're about to take on the leagues highest scoring team and cant score to save our lives on offense..

Their coaches are probably laughing and drinking beer while they watch our tape. No way they can take our staff seriously.
_________

Make no mistake, we aren’t winning this game. We can’t pass, and our best WR (cough cough) is disgruntled ....Get ready for another L. This team isn’t behind Mularkey anymore, and that’s a big problem.
