LAST WEEK: A Los Angeles team that had been flying high during a four-game win streak came crashing back to earth in a 24-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings where the Rams just sort of ran out of gas, allowing 17 points in the fourth quarter alone.
OFFENSE: The Los Angeles offense has been mostly boom, but some bust against the league's best. With the exception of a 27-20 loss to the Redskins the second week of the season, the Rams have been utterly dominant against any defense outside of the top-10 and struggled mightily against the league's best.
Los Angeles ranks fourth in the NFL in total offense (375.4 yards per game) and second in points (30.3), but in games against Seattle, Jacksonville and Minnesota, the Rams are averaging just 292.7 yards per game and 14.7 points.
Running back Todd Gurley is the engine that makes the Rams go; he's fifth in the NFL in rushing with 791 yards, and his 425 receiving yards make Gurley the league's leader in yards from scrimmage. Oddly, the Rams are just 15th in yards per carry at 4.1 yards per rush, but Gurley is capable of breaking the big one behind one of the NFL's best lines.
Former LSU star Andrew Whitworthwas signed to anchor the left side, and he's been almost perfect. With Whitworth anchoring the blind side, Los Angeles has given up just 15 sacks, tied for fifth in the NFL, although 10 came against Seattle, Jacksonville, Houston and Minnesota.
In the passing game, second-year quarterback Jared Goff has been much better, racking up 2,610 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions while directing a big-play passing game. Goff will be working without the services of Robert Woods, his leading receiver. Without Woods, Goff will rely on possession receiver Cooper Kupp (38 catches, 481 yards) and Sammy Watkins (24 catches, 408 yards).
DEFENSE: The Rams have a ton of talent on defense, but Los Angeles has a weakness. The Rams rank 28th in the NFL against the run and 27th in yards per carry at 4.5 per rush. Los Angeles has given up more than 169 yards rushing against Washington, Dallas, Jacksonville and Minnesota.
The Rams have been better against the pass, ranking 10th in the NFL, and Los Angeles is fourth in the NFL in passer rating allowed. Sparked by three interceptions by safety Mark Barron and two more for No. 1 cornerback Trumaine Johnson, Los Angeles has 12 interceptions.
The Rams could be a little shorthanded at cornerback against New Orleans; Kayvon Webster (concussion) and Nickell Robey-Coleman (thigh) both suffered injuries against the Vikings.
Defensive tackle Aaron Donald remains the most dangerous person on the Rams' defense; he has a team-leading five sacks, and a group effort around him has produced 28 sacks overall, tied for ninth in the NFL. The interior of the Saints' offensive line will have its hands full; Donald's running mate, Michael Brockers, is a talented player with three sacks.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Los Angeles has excellent specialists. Punter Johnny Hekker is incredible, and kicker Greg Zuerlein has missed just two kicks all season.Return man Pharoh Cooper is a dangerous talent who has a 103-yard kickoff return for a score this season.

My friends, the Saints’ OLine is no joke. It may be the best in the NFL this year. Wade will dial up run blitzes and some will get home, but others won’t. And if you’re expecting Brees to throw us the ball...well, I wouldn’t bet on that particular gameplan. This is the best offense we will see all year (yes, I’m including the Eagles). There’s no way in hell we keep them under 20.
The crux of this game will be our offense. The one benefit of the Vikings loss is that McVay can’t expect our staple plays to be effective enough with Woods out. No, I’m not suggesting abandonment of the core concepts. But this game requires more creativity with Austin, Everett, Thomas, and perhaps Dunbar. McVay needs to put out there things not yet seen on film. We simply MUST expand this offense because Jacksonville, Seattle, and Minnesota have demonstrated that this offense can be shut down in it’s current state.
McVay has correctly built a core of execution that has served this team well. The Vikings game was built on limiting turnovers and that was wise...it really was. Kupp’s fumble had nothing to do with a flawed gameplan. But it’s time to open things up a bit and take some chances. He did it against the Texans and was lucky Clowney didn’t get home in our endzone, but that shot HAD to be taken. At the very least, we need to give future opponents more to prepare as the season progresses.

And the Saints defense isn't as good as the Vikings, it could be ugly if the give up runs to TG3 like they're prone to do.

Lol i said the same thing about the Viking fan base as well. Granted they beat us and i give them credit. But a major reason why the vikings won that game was due to the fact or starting secondary got hurt. And they exploited it. Also we gave up on the run. If your playing a good defense you can't become one dimensional. Thats actually what we did.

This is one game where I would really emphasize the running game. Need to keep their offense off the field.
That doesn’t mean I don’t throw the ball, in fact I may throw it to setup the run.
But enough of this up the middle predictable running. Let’s get the outside zone runs and misdirections going. And Tavon on the sweeps. I’m also incorporating Tavon on some screens and drag routes.

Hey I'll take it. Records seem to be holding up.
Texans opponents the next week are 0-10 and the Cards are playing the 7-3 Jags so I'd bet the house on the Jags this week.
One thing about NFL gambling. Seems to me that it makes much more sense to win a bet with not the best return versus losing a high risk bet. I mean, even if the Jags are -200, you're still making 50% on your money in one day (I think I got the numbers right).
So, if the Saints are 8-0 on Fox and 0-2 on other networks... I like those odds.
NOTHING about this season has been typical so maybe it's the year of the streaks?

There has never been a bigger kiss up, mancrushing, star Fer than Jim Nantz. His number one subject is Brady.
During the Raider/Pats game last week Mack came in low (not flagged and not illegal) on Brady, Nantz puckered right up and broke off his call of the play and said "Oh no, Brady was hit low"....or some such nonsense his voice raising about 4 octaves. I really believe if Brady got hurt in a game he was calling he would cry.
He is a phony and D bag.
Also, way back when on the Don and Mike Radio Show he was pompous.
