Maybe it’s not any single player at all. And there is no shortage of very fine players, to be sure.

No, I think it’s something a bit more subtle.

Maybe it’s the overall youth?

Both players and in many coaches, certainly including McVay.

That makes a long run at top shelf playoffs possible, don’t you think? This crew is built for an extended run.

Still among the youngest teams in the league, I think.

Hot Damn!

McVay is the biggest asset.

He gets player buy in (no way we get Suh or Cooks without McVay and he's also part of the reason Talib and Peters came).

He's an energetic young teacher who holds players accountable without diminishing them. He's not an "old school" coach in that regard and players respond to him without ever doubting that he's 'the man'.

He's a football encyclopedia, maybe even a savant. He remembers plays other teams did years ago that their own coaches don't remember. If genius can be applied to coaching, he just may be one.

With a HC like McVay, it makes the FO's job easier for a number of reasons. a) draft picks will be properly utilized so the scouting department isn't trying to hit a moving target with "fit" questions nearly as much. b) Free agents see playing for McVay as an opportunity. That makes approaching high value FAs much easier. We all remember the days when we couldn't sign some players with all the money in the NFL. c) McVay is constantly working on staff development so that when they move on, other coaches see coaching for McVay as an opportunity. That makes it easier to sign top coaching talent.

McVay makes it easier on the owner to invest billions of dollars in his franchise knowing that he has one of the best young coaches in football who's almost autistically driven to be what he is. He's not the type of person who will "lose the love of the game". He might burn out... we saw that with Vermeil, but his love of the game won't diminish if he gets a big contract.

This team is better in almost literally every facet because McVay is here.

Our players are better, our FO is better and our owner is better.

Based on your criteria, I dunno how anyone else is remotely close.

Can't argue against any of this logic!

Nice post Mac.

@Rams43 this is a fantastic topic. You're at your best when you bring up discussion like this.

I could start a sentence with "Our biggest asset as a team is......" and then finish it with a variety of things.

I can make a case for McVay as @Mackeyser mentions.

I can make a case for the DL.

I can make a case for the secondary.

I can make a case for Special Teams.

I can make a case for our emerging star QB.

I can make a case for the weapons on offense.

This team is SO loaded right now we could literally select the things I mentioned and assign one to different posters to make their case for that thing being the biggest asset and it would be great debate.

I know many of us are thinking SB, I certainly am. This roster is dripping with highly talented guys and I am sure they are all thinking about a SB ring. It's built to win NOW and everyone including the players knows that is the expectation.

The season will provide two very important tests. The Eagles and the Vikings.

The good thing is both games are at home..........and they will need these in order to get home field in the playoffs. They can't lose both of these because it'll take 13 wins and a tie breaker to get home field in the NFC which would leave them almost no room for error. Winning the other 14 games is just not likely. The Saints, Chargers, Chiefs and Packers are all tough outs. And it seems like most seasons most teams lose to a team they should beat. Losing one of the two versus MINN and PHIL won't kill chances for home field, but it will make it harder.

If they lose to both like last year they will be playing in the NFC title game on the road.

I don't like that, and if it's in Philly I hate that.

I'm torn between Goff and McVay.

There's not many Goffs out there, at least not 32 of them, as some teams do not even have a decent QB. A good QB is the foundation to build a team.

There's plenty of coaches to go around. But, man, McVay is beginning to set himself apart in pretty much every aspect of coaching.

I'll go with McVay. A great coach can last for years, and the coach can go grab his qb!

I'm torn between Goff and McVay.

That alone makes us very lucky.

Some teams have neither of that caliber... or one, not the other... and spend years searching (which includes “misses” to where the cycle painfully starts over).

Remember the Rich Brooks/Tony Banks days? What a wonderful time that was!

Need to change it to who's the biggest asset on the roster lol. Because, yeah, McVay is it and right behind him is Wade.

Third would probably be Gurley, but after this season it might be Goff.

Our biggest asset right now is the cost/benefit ratio of our young studs. Right now Goff/Gurley/Donald/Peters/Cooks/Havenstein are all hitting their stride at relatively low contract $$$$. This has allowed us to go after solid vets - Whitworth/Suh/Sullivan/Talib and retain others - Joyner/Barron/Brockers/Nickell-Robey. That will of course change over time but for now its our biggest asset.

Typically I have always said the most important guys on the team are the QB, OC, GM and owner. Since McVay is one of the small number of HC's serving as the OC not only is your point spot on but think about this..........they have many more years together. If Goff plays until he is 38, not unusual for a QB they will have 15 more years as a tandem from this year forward, and 16 total.

And I don't see Snead going away anytime soon. I think he is going to have a long career ala Ozzie Newsome in BAL. IMO Newsome has been the best overall GM I can recall. I may change my mind if Snead continues to operate at the level he has. He's been fantastic.

So three of the four things that matter to me, and are the most important of the four for sure, are drilled down long term. This team is set up potentially like the Patriots and Steelers with long term stability and talent in the key positions.

It really is a new era for this franchise and the fans. We are going to get paid back for the years of shitty football, shitty management, shitty coaching and everything else. And I would argue it's the least they could do LOL.

She's a little skinny for me, and not that I question her football head coaching ability, but I'll take Sean. :ROFLMAO:

Separate the assets into two groups and see if it's easier to choose.

First Group = Players on Roster
Jared Goff
Todd Gurley
Andrew Whitworth

Second Group = Non Roster Personnel
Stan Kronke
Sean McVay
Les Snead
Wade Phillips

I still have to go with McVay, but Snead, Gurley, and Goff, are tied for second.
