Jared Verse?

I know he's been doubled teamed a lot ...but, his name barely gets mentioned.

Someone said he gets less double teamed than K. Turner ! I wonder if he also has an injury that is slowing him down.

Anyone else notice the drop in production, or am I over reacting?

Roll Rams !! :sunglasses:

I don't start judging stats until after the 4th game of the season. Then I can multiply everything by 4 and get an idea of how they will perform over the season.
Two games is not enough of a sample size.

I think he will always be a near miss sack guy. While disruptive and helping others get sacks, he does seem to lack that closing burst to finish off his bull rush and he does lack that quick speed rush or counter move from is bull rush. Still a heck of a player due to his power and his ability to collapse the edge into the QB, despite double teams, but I don't see him as a 10 sack a year guy unless be can improve his counter moves.

He has absolutely been double-teamed and occasionally triple-teamed. I think he'll be fine once they're forced to shift over to Agent Zero.

I'm a little more worried about Fiske, honestly, but I think once he gets healthy, you're going to see a huge push from the interior, which will, in turn, help with the outside pressure and force all of those running quarterbacks to navigate the pocket better or get sacked.

He's been trying some new pass rush moves with pretty meh results. Will take some time to get things going. Plus people are prepared for his bull rush a bit more now.

He has been putting that pressure on for sure. Facing a ton of multi blocker schemes. Lots of TE chipping I believe.

With Young being a beast...and the rookie, Stewart...that kid looks pretty damn good as well. Verse will get going ...we need Fisk to also show up a bit more.

There is a play (see the 'defensive highlights' in the Rams' Utube channel) where the Titans tried a WR screen. Verse is covering the TE, who [laughably] tries to block him -- Verse bull rushes him straight towards the WR, who has to stop dead in his tracks & gets tackled.
I'm pretty sure this team doesn't care who gets the stats, you can tell these guys have all gelled together.
Oh & watch out for Josiah Stewart. This is the fast 'joker' OLB we've been looking for.

Yesterday was not one of Verses better performances, but it wasnt all terrible. He bit on the fake and lost contain several times. Wasnt it week 2 last season that Verse had a bad game against the cards? He recognized it, owned it and fixed it in short order.

That’s not good he didn’t have that many sacks last year. His ball rush has been collapsing the pocket, but when that’s your primary move, you don’t get to the QB is quick as the speed rushers on other side.

His time will come. There were a few bootlegs where he focused on the running back and not the quarterback. If he cleans up those few containment misses, he’ll start to fill out the stat sheet.

I haven’t rewatched either game but what I noticed on first watch is the guy is a bull rushing maniac. Looks every bit as strong as Donald but I’m not seeing much speed or bend on his outside rush. He also needs to contain better. That approach has to wear him out by the 4th quarter. You are a force just keep working on that technique.

Whoa I really shot from the hip with this message. Here's an easier-to-read version:

He didn’t rack up many sacks last season. His bull rush has been effective in collapsing the pocket, but when that’s your go-to move, it doesn’t get you to the quarterback as quickly as the speed rushers coming off the edge.

That said, his time is coming. There were a few bootlegs where he keyed in on the running back instead of the quarterback. If he tightens up those containment lapses, the stats will start to follow.

Not to be a dick but we are only two games into the season and he played his ass off in the first game from what I saw. Titans scored just 1 td vs us so defense as a whole did their part and im sure he was a big part of that effort.
I am basing it off of 19 reg season games with 4.5 sacks. Again, he can improve, but you can see he just doesn't have that closing burst that great sack guys have off the edge. He will always be disruptive, kind of like a better version of Clowney, another guy who is disruptive with power, but not big sack numbers.

Just my opinion and I hope I am wrong or that he improves, just not seeing a guy like what Quinn did or Watt does today, who can close around that edge and get big sack numbers.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned Fiske. Read he had an oblique injury. Those can be lengthy and tricky. Lets hope it is very minor.
