Nick foles is better than Carson wentz.
-------------
How is 21 TDs and 7 picks bad?
------------
well he’s 6-7 and hasn’t beaten a team above .500 yet so yeah
------------
If you watched our games you would know the defense is the problem and not the quarterback.
-----------
The Eagle defense been givin up 22.7 points per game. That’s barely above league average.
----------
Finally the eagles have a real qb starting this game. Foles will lead them to victory.
----------
a stadium overrun with eagles fans
----------
I am a eagles fan and Carson wentz is 1 of my favorite players but I think Carson Wentz is just wasn’t 100 percent so I think we’re at least gonna have like a better chance but the rams defense is just gonna be all over nick foles I can’t believe I am voting against my favorite team but I think the rams will win
----------
History is going to repeat itself again Nick Foles starting as quarterback they might win rest of the games in the season for the Eagles and then go to the Superbowl and win it in a miracle like win.
-----------
Wentz isn’t playing so Foles is playing, but that doesn’t change the secondary on defense!
-----------
WELL IF THE REFS HELP THE RAMS LIKE THEY DID THE COWBOYS THEN RAMS WIN EASILY
----------
Eagles win 28-23
----------
The rams are gonna get rocked. High scoring game tho FLY EAGLES FLY
----------
Rams win 37-27, but Eagles get revenge by injuring Jared Goff at the end of the third quarter.
----------
I am a eagles fan I hope that happens but what if the rams back up qb just goes nick foles during the playoffs and win the super bowl what would u do
----------
Nick Foles & Philadelphia Eagles will Win
---------
Eagles are a desperate team and are 6-7 so not terrible and lost a lot of close game. Rams at home will rebound but when this eagles team with no Carson wentz puts up a hell of a fight don’t be surprised.
----------
All eagles fan but Carson wtf!?!?! They better re sign foles this off season or find a project in the draft
----------
I'm gonna say the rams came off rusty last game Eagles-27 Rams-23
---------
Eagles 37 rams 14
----------
Eagles 30 Rams 27
----------
Eagles win 17-13

Rams win 37-27, but Eagles get revenge by injuring Jared Goff at the end of the third quarter.

Guess they're going to pelt him with D batteries !!!

Stay classy Philadelphia (as always)...

If they're wise they will pay Foles big bucks to resign with them as a backup just in case.
After Sunday, I actually hope Foles plays well.
He has that goofy contract that IIRC will expire after this season unless the Eagles pay him like 20 million. Good luck with that!

From what philly fans are saying I get the impression they havent figured out that Wentz has never started a full season of football in college or the NFL. Availability is the #1 ability and if your injured your not available, this alone makes Goff better in my book. Granted Wentz has not been injured yet this season, but history isnt on his side and he did miss the beginning of this season due to last seasons injury.
He's injured now......sorry, not funny but kinda funny you siad it, then the press release came out

Gee, who woulda thunk a guy who runs around and puts his body at risk would end up injury prone? Meanwhile the guy they once called a bust is leading one of the top NFL offenses to an 11-2 record while never missing a game. Thank you Les Snead for getting this one right.

This is Philadelphia.
True. Back in the nineties I had a teammate from high school that played for the Mets. New York fans were pretty brutal toward him. He was a great hitter, but more of a liability on defense. He went from rookie phenom to being run out of town in 5 years....later in his career he went to Philly. Made the New York fans look like angels. Some of those people in Philadelphia don't seem human, they are so cut-throat.

City of Brotherly Love? Wow.

We're blessed to have Sean McVay as head coach. He's polite and humble and all but I'd like to hear some straightforward answers to some of these questions.

At some point they all learn coach speak. You would think its a language class all coaches are required to attend.

Did he play 2nd base? The name escapes me but I remmber a 2nd basemen from the Mets coming to Philly that fits that description.

Yes. Greg Jefferies. We played football together. He actually was really good in football, too. He broke our high school interceptions record, as a Sophmore. I think it still stands today.

Yeah. I used to live in Allentown and went to a lot of Flyers games at the old Spectrum. Lots of fights, especially when the Rangers were in town. I went to a Giants-Eagles game in Philly years ago with friends who worked for the Giants, sat in the 300 level with the drunks and other assorted losers. An Eagles fan mooned us from point blank range, in front of Jon's wife. I think the TV show Always Sunny in Philadelphia is actually a documentary.

Adapting to the Rams’ motion concepts
Jim Schwartz will have to prove he can make the necessary adjustments...
By Michael Kist

usa_today_11700933.0.jpg

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re aware of the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive schemes. Get Todd Gurley going on the ground, hit vertical shots with play-action, gash you with the screen game, go fast with quick snaps as a constraint to their occasionally long pre-snap process, and use motion to influence defenses.

The last point, the use of motion, has been particularly tricky for defenses to handle. Other teams are beginning to catch on and use more motion as man/zone indicators, but there’s another type of motion that nobody uses nearly as much as the Rams. Jet motion.

Where did jet motion originate and how did it make it’s way to the NFL? The Ringer’s Robert Mays detailed this journey, starting with the jet sweep, in his comprehensive article on the concept.

“The play’s path to this point was 15 years in the making. It began as a stroke of genius from Division II football coach Bob Stitt in 2003, devised during a Colorado School of Mines practice as a way to shoehorn a chic trend into his shotgun offense. As Stitt’s team piled up yards and wins, it seeped into the major college ranks. The preeminent mad scientists at that level, from Mike Leach to Hal Mumme to Dana Holgorsen, wanted to pick Stitt’s brain.

Eventually the play became of staple of Holgorsen’s high-flying Air Raid offenses. The success of Holgorsen’s teams at West Virginia brought both the concept and Stitt’s name into the national consciousness, but it would still be years before this iteration of the jet sweep made its way to the NFL. Now, a decade and a half after Stitt’s epiphany, his play design is a featured element for Super Bowl contenders.”

One of those Super Bowl contenders, of course, are the Rams. The data shows that they utilize jet motion far more than any other offense in the league. Not only that, they use jet sweeps at a much higher rate, forcing teams to respect the motion man as a legitimate running threat.

View: https://twitter.com/KeeganAbdoo/status/1067446513591185408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1067446513591185408&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bleedinggreennation.com%2F2018%2F12%2F14%2F18140777%2Fadapting-rams-motion-concepts-eagles-vs-rams-preview-offense-defense-sean-mcvay-nfl-week-15-game

The concept is simple: get the ball-carrier outside of the core of the formation quickly and allow him to pick up yards in space. However, it’s not just the sweep that has been giving defenses’ fits. The Rams use the threat of the sweep to accentuate their traditional run game by pulling defenders out of position to achieve run blocking angles that would otherwise be impossible.

This play is called “Weak Wide Zone Sift” and is a staple of the Rams’ offense. Pre-snap these blocking angles look foolish.

LAR___Weak_Wide_Zone_Sift.png

The jet motion is going to do three things to three different levels of the Denver Broncos’ defense on this play. First, it’s going to freeze the defensive end. Second, it’s going to get their linebackers to adjust their alignments to the right of the formation just before the snap. Third, they spin their safeties.

On the right side, the safety follows the motion man and is taken out of the play entirely. On the left side, the safety rotates to a deep alignment. All of this is creating space and favorable angles for the final product.

View: https://twitter.com/BgnGifs/status/1073596763393671168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1073596763393671168&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bleedinggreennation.com%2F2018%2F12%2F14%2F18140777%2Fadapting-rams-motion-concepts-eagles-vs-rams-preview-offense-defense-sean-mcvay-nfl-week-15-game

These aren’t the only concepts the Rams use, but I highlight these because my charting shows that the Rams are a heavy run team when using motion. They want to pull you out of position to create running lanes that otherwise would have never existed.

The problem for the Rams is that in the last two weeks defenses have begun to alter their initial alignments. They’re countering with evenly distributed formations that already take into account jet motion.

From what I can gather, teams may have begun to do this in Week 10, starting with the Seattle Seahawks. Not only does their alignment account for an extra threat entering the opposite side of the formation, but it allows them to auto-blitz from the side where the motion started.

Matty Brown of Field Gulls detailed this adjustment in his excellent piece.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=pU33BQN4c-c

“Getting [Justin Coleman] into a footrace with Gurley across the formation is foolish, and Seattle is in a cover-2 zone, after all. Instead, Coleman becomes the spare man—as Barkevious Mingo waits for Gurley on the other side...

The blitz is packaged into the coverage. The key for Coleman is the motion. As soon as Gurley begins moving on the jet, Coleman can move inside—as though he is following the movement across the formation. Instead, as the ball is snapped, Coleman is free to hunt.” - Matty Brown

This may have more to do with the Seahawks built in auto-blitz from their bear front, but it is notable that it was used to counter a play involving jet motion and could lead to further expansion on the idea.

It’s also of note, as Brown pointed out to me, that teams have been running more bear fronts against the Rams, but having five men down also springs play-action. Perhaps running more “Tite” front on defense may be a suitable counter to that downside, but now we’re exposing cut-back lanes and getting off-topic with this spit-balling.

Beyond blitzing, teams have made other adjustments to expand on the thought that accounting for the motion via initial alignment is a viable solution. The evenly distributed formations allow them to remain static before the snap with every player understanding how the shift effects their responsibilities.

The Detroit Lions began ignoring the jet motion back in Week 13. The Chicago Bears were similarly dismissive in their Week 14 win over the Rams. The Bears had a vested interest in trying out this idea.

Jet motion can succeed in part by freezing the end man on the line of scrimmage [EMLOS]. If the Rams were able to “freeze” game-wrecking defensive end Khalil Mack, that would be a win for the offense. Knowing what Mack is capable of when free to attack, the Bears put him in a position to win, which put their defense at an advantage.

It wasn’t just Mack who benefited though. Remember the “Weak Wide Zone Sift” play earlier that gashed the Broncos by manufacturing easier blocking angles? The Bears adjustments shut the door on that idea.

View: https://twitter.com/BgnGifs/status/1073606399479955456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1073606399479955456&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bleedinggreennation.com%2F2018%2F12%2F14%2F18140777%2Fadapting-rams-motion-concepts-eagles-vs-rams-preview-offense-defense-sean-mcvay-nfl-week-15-game

Unlike against the Broncos, the backside tackle can’t get to the MIKE linebacker and the center can’t get to the “Point”. There’s very little movement by the Bears and none of which that helps the Rams achieve their goal.

The other factor in this is that the safeties don’t spin. The Lions and Bears utilized a lot of middle of the field open [MOFO] deployments. This two-high safety alignment aids the defense in defending against jet motion concepts.

Yes, spinning a single high safety down to the box helps defends against sweeps, but it also leaves a vulnerability on the weak side, which is where the Rams love to attack in their run game. It also allows offenses to gash you with run-pass options.

By having two high safeties, it has a trickle down effect on the other levels of the defense.

“Staying even and not rotating to the motion allows the defense to be flexible and adapt to what the defense is giving them. Playing a two-high look and keeping box integrity allows the defense to maintain their box fits and not get out-leveraged by the offense.

By staying even and using quarters rules, the defense can adapt to any jet motion thrown at it. The key to breaking down a team that uses jet motion in its offense is to understand they are trying to move the defense.

Whether they are going to use the QB to run counter away from the motion or to get the LBs/safeties sucked in for an RPO, the defense can counteract this by staying still and using the leverage and flexibility given to it by staying in a two-high look.”
- Cody Alexander, Match Quarters - Defending Jet Motion

If the defense is no longer shifting linebackers, freezing their EMLOS, or spinning their safeties, the impact of the jet motion dissolves. Simply put, if the defense doesn’t react to motion, there’s no reason for the offense to motion. As such, the Rams have used jet motion with decreasing frequency over recent weeks.

Now, the bad news. The Eagles are primarily and overwhelmingly a middle of the field closed [MOFC] team. They play single-high safety with cover 1 and cover 3 coverage deployments the majority of the time.

Is Jim Schwartz capable of morphing his defense into a two-high safety team to stop the Rams? Not only that, does he believe he has the personnel capable of making the switch? We’ll have the answer to that question very soon.

Eagles at Rams

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson initially said QB Carson Wentz (back) would be listed as questionable, which was at odds with reports he’s going to miss the game as well as Pederson’s own comments about a three-month recovery timetable.

Wentz was actually listed as doubtful while LB Jordan Hicks (calf), DT Timmy Jernigan (back), CB Sidney Jones (hamstring) and G Isaac Seumalo (pectoral) were all ruled out. DE Michael Bennett (foot), WR Shelton Gibson (wrist) and S Avonte Maddox (ankle, knee) are listed as questionable.

The Rams did not list any players on their final injury report of the week.

By Brandon Lee Gowton

The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report on Friday in advance of their Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Carson Wentz, who missed the entire week of practice, has been ruled doubtful to play despite the fact Doug Pederson labeled him as “questionable” earlier in the day. Pederson said Wentz will travel with the team to Los Angeles. With Wentz likely out, it’ll be Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles starting for the Eagles on Sunday. Nate Sudfeld will be Foles’ backup.

Four players have been ruled OUT: Jordan Hicks, Timmy Jernigan, Sidney Jones, and Isaac Seumalo. None of these players practiced this week.

Hicks’ absence means Nigel Bradham will start in the middle with Kamu Grugier-Hill and Nathan Gerry also getting playing time.

Jernigan being out means Haloti Ngata will start next to Fletcher Cox. The backup defensive tackles are Treyvon Hester and Bruce Hector.

Jones being out means the Eagles will be starting Rasul Douglas and ... De’Vante Bausby? ... at cornerback. Yikes.

Seumalo’s absence means Stefen Wisniewski will return to the starting lineup at left guard.

Three players have been ruled QUESTIONABLE: Michael Bennett, Shelton Gibson, and Avonte Maddox. All three players were full participants on Friday, which seems to bode well for their chances of playing on Sunday.

It remains to be seen how Maddox will be used upon returning. Will he line up at safety, cornerback, or both? I’d guess Cre’Von LeBlanc stays as the nickel corner with Maddox playing more at safety, but we’ll see. I mean, does it really even matter at this point?

In case you missed it, the Eagles also placed Jordan Mailata on injured reserve.

Carson Wentz had a stress fracture in college, too
As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Carson Wentz has had a stress fracture in his back.
By John Stolnis

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was peppered by questions from reporters at his Friday news conference regarding the health of franchise quarterback Carson Wentz, and understandably so. After all, the revelation earlier this week that team doctors have discovered a stress fracture in his back was disconcerting to everyone.

After Pederson described the injury as one that has “evolved” as the season went on, that it would take three months to heal but also that he was still “questionable” to play on Sunday night against the Rams, the confusion was not lessened in any way, shape or form.

Wentz worriers/critics have taken to calling him “injury prone” in recent days, noting the serious knee injury he suffered last year, a hairline rib fracture he received during the preseason of his rookie year (an injury for which he missed zero regular season games) and a broken hand in his senior year in college resulting from hitting his hand on a defender’s helmet.

That narrative is not likely to die down anytime soon.

View: https://twitter.com/LesBowen/status/1073675452944973824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1073675452944973824&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bleedinggreennation.com%2F2018%2F12%2F14%2F18141376%2Freport-carson-wentz-had-a-stress-fracture-in-college-too

Bowen tweeted that it’s unknown if that stress fracture is in the same part of his back that he injured this time around, and that he doesn’t know exactly when during his college career he suffered that injury.

View: https://twitter.com/LesBowen/status/1073684418051616768?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1073684418051616768&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bleedinggreennation.com%2F2018%2F12%2F14%2F18141376%2Freport-carson-wentz-had-a-stress-fracture-in-college-too

Carson Wentz was not made available to the public today to help shed some light on his injuries. As for his chances of playing on Sunday, the Eagles made official what most everyone assumed would be the case.

Plus 2 hairline back fractures?

I still like Wentz as a QB, but yes... that injury list should be worrisome. It’s not a short list and it’s all over the body.

Yeah Wentz is out, and Ajayi is on IR and Torry Smith is with Carolina. All 3 of these players made numerous big plays to beat the Rams last year. And with Tru now on the Jets we don't have any more players that'll blow 3rd down stops with taunting penalties. So there's all that.

These can’t be real Eagles fans, can they?
What is this.
By Brandon Lee Gowton

DuVk7KIW4AIqVzj.0.jpg

So, here’s a picture that was apparently taken near Arrowhead Stadium prior to the Kansas City Chiefs versus Los Angeles Chargers matchup on Thursday Night Football.

I mean ... I can’t help but wonder if these are even real Eagles fans.

No one is denying Doug Pederson hasn’t had a great season. But, uh, are we forgetting that he helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl just 10 months ago?

Are we also forgetting that Andy Reid is a fantastic regular season coach who has struggled in the postseason?

These same people would probably be complaining about him not running the ball ... or his clock management by Week 5, if not sooner.

I have no problem with people who still want to support Big Red. With the Eagles likely not to make the playoffs this year, I’m going to be rooting for the Chiefs. Truth be told, I can’t say I would’ve felt great about Andy winning a title with KC before the Eagles won one. Now that the Eagles have their Lombardi Trophy, I wouldn’t mind seeing Reid finally get his.

Rooting for Andy is one thing. Going to a game with these signs? This ain’t it, chief.
-----------
Not to mention no one is talking about the Chargers so it’s easy to root for them. Everyone is going nuts over the Chiefs and Rams and Saints. F*** those guys. Go get that ring, Rivers
-------------
whatd the Rams ever do to you
-------------
You beat us in the 2001 NFC Championship Game
Screw you forever!!!
----------
My order of preference after the Eagles:
1. Chiefs
2. Saints
3. Colts
4. Texans
5. Vikings
6. Bears
7. Chargers
8. Dolphins
9. Titans
10. Seahawks
11. Patriots
12. The NFL disbands prior to the super bowl
13. The sun explodes, destroying the three inner most planets
14. Cowboys
----------
Cowboys are too high on that list
-----------

I don't know
I think I’ll take the sun exploding over the patriots winning too.
----------
December Andy is back!
----------
Hate the Rams almost as much as the Cowturds at this point.
---------
Losing...
It truly brings out the worst in everyone.
----------
I am completely cool with Big Red and KC winning it all. (In fact, I’m cool with anyone — besides the cowboys, rams, vikings, pats and steelers — winning it all this season.)
-----------
An all LA Super Bowl would be interesting.
----------
Nope. That would be the NFL’s wet dream.I hate LA so I will hate an all LA bowl.

Eagles vs. Rams Game Preview: Five questions and answers with the enemy
Previewing the Eagles’ Week 15 matchup.
By Brandon Lee Gowton and 3k

The Philadelphia Eagles (6-7) and Los Angeles Rams (11-2) are set to play on Sunday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In order to preview this Week 15 matchup, I reached out to our associates over at Turf Show Times. The jovial Joe McAtee (AKA 3k) took the time to answer my questions about the upcoming game. Let’s take a look at his answers.

1 - What’s your overall confidence level in this Rams team coming off that loss in Chicago?

Still incredibly high. No doubt, it was a demoralizing loss given (a) that it was essentially a playoff-caliber game and (b) we got our asses handed to us when we had the ball. And for a team and fan base that is sincerely expecting a deep postseason run, a loss to a playoff-caliber team in the fashion that we lost it certainly hurt. But the team is still 11-2, and the postseason isn’t quite here yet. So while our FanPulse results dipped in earnest for the first time all season, the sky is hardly falling.

2 - It looks like it’ll be Nick Foles starting at quarterback for the Eagles on Sunday. To what extent does Foles starting make you feel more or less confident in a Rams win?

Well, quarterback play hasn’t been a factor that’s undone the Rams this year. Mitchell Trubisky was roughly somewhere around reason #314,529 why we lost in Week 14. The bigger issues are run defense and fluctuations in our offense. So honestly, I don’t think having (clears throat) FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLES back there changes much from the Rams’ perspective.

Also, it’s pretty weird for us to be talking about Nick Foles in 2018 as Eagles and Rams blogs. Should we be talking about Sam Bradford? Or Ron Jaworski?

3 - If you had to game plan against the Rams’ defense, how would you attack them?

Run the ball. It’s the easiest way to open up the Rams, especially on the outside, as well as being able to avoid DL Aaron Donald which is something I would definitely advocate. The Rams’ weakest point for talent is across the linebacking group. The Rams tried to at least add some talent in bringing on Dante Fowler Jr.; while he has certainly helped in the edge rush over Matt Longacre, Fowler isn’t a great run-defending edge.

And between Mark Barron and Cory Littleton, you can certainly have success running at them. Passing the ball can prove more difficult with Donald rushing and having recently gotten CB Aqib Talib back from injury.

4 - If you had to game plan against the Rams’ offense, how would you try to stop them?

Well, you have to defeat the Rams’ O-line. Coincidentally, the Rams’ line had their worst game of the year (by far) against the Bears last week. If you can get to QB Jared Goff without committing extra rushes to pressure, that’s a huge boost especially because it takes away the Rams’ favorite valve for dealing with blitzes: the screen.

Rams Head Coach Sean McVay has used the screen game to extreme success the last two seasons to put RB Todd Gurley in space when opposing teams commit five or six guys to get to Goff. But last week, the Bears were creating pressure with just four rushers, although I suppose having EDGE Khalil Mack helps...a lot... But it also helps to make sure the line isn’t opening holes for Gurley in the run game.

For whatever reason, and fans have come up with several both rational and conspiratorially theoretical, the Rams just kind of refused to run Gurley much last week. I’d guess that’s an aberration regardless of whatever reason McVay had. So if Gurley gets back to a regular usage, ensuring the Rams’ line isn’t plowing open space for him would be key as well.

For all the hype of Goff and Gurley and McVay, I’d still promote the offensive line as the key to unlock the Rams’ offense.

5 - What’s your prediction for Sunday’s game? And what are your expectations for the rest of this Rams season?

I’m going with the Rams to bounce back after a disappointing game in Chicago both as a response to that but also being at home and fighting to ensure they get the first-round bye and even the #1 seed should the New Orleans Saints slip up at any point. But the bigger point is your second question.

We knew going into this season that the Rams’ season was going to be evaluated based on how they play in the postseason. With the big name recognition additions of DL Ndamukong Suh, WR Brandin Cooks, CB Marcus Peters and Talib, this season became less of a referendum on our third-year franchise QB and more about a potential Super Bowl run.

That’s still the case, and of course it just comes down to how the Rams play in January. It’s a bit unfair to try to evaluate things in light of the Bears loss, but I still feel good about the team overall. The biggest key is sheer health. The Rams remain among the most fortunate teams if not the most fortunate team outright in the NFL when it comes to injuries.

There remain three games before the playoffs and then you’ve got those games themselves. As long as we don’t lose any key contributors, I won’t go as far to predict anything in the postseason (if you’re asking why, I’d point to the playoffs last year as my reason...), but I’d offer that I don’t know that you can feel better about your team than I do about the 2018 Rams.

My question is why this game hasn’t been flexed for Pit vs NE.
-------------
CBS and Fox can protect some games for themselves
It seems the only games that get flex into primetime features a team people didn’t expect to be good.

Eagles should roll over after a quick TD. This game will be locked up early.

That Bears defense completely stifled the

unstoppable Rams offense

This is why I want the Eagles to build up their defense. I think offensively we just need three pieces, LT, speed receiver and another RB. I like Adams, just need someone with a different skill set. Will be interesting to see the kid Boston Scott tomorrow.
