Who did the Rams want at 8?
I refuse to believe they would give up the farm for a wr in this draft. Was there even a player available good enough that a team would give up the farm to take?

Great points. That's why I hate when those "behind the scenes" videos from the Draft come out. When we saw the one last year of Les trying to trade up with the Jets it's basically telling Verse and Fiske we came within a hair of not having you. In my opinion that stuff belongs buried and shouldn't be made public. This is another case of glad the move up didn't happen. If we moved up for Bowers last year we would not have Verse or Fiske. Bowers is a great weapon but this defense has a chance to be really good with those two. And we all know McVay has been wanting a playmaking tight end for years. He didn't get the tall wide receiver he wanted but he got a tight end who fits what he wants to do. And two first round picks next year.
I felt the same way watching them. there were too many people chiming inYeah man. That clap felt like an explosive outlet of group nervousness.
Also who's the head motherfucker in charge of their draft. The GM? Or the overly chatty executive vp of running his mouth. If I was the owner that dude wouldn't be around long.
This was posted in another thread but it really seems to apply to the clapping scene.Yeah man. That clap felt like an explosive outlet of group nervousness.
That's the key question.Who did the Rams want at 8?
Is there really a good reason to doubt that report? After the Panthers took McMillan there were no other reports of the Rams trying to trade up for another player, unlike in the 2024 draft. That's the key question.
IMO, the answer is TE Colston Loveland.
Last year Bowers and Murphy II were speculated and confirmed.
Tetairoa McMillan has been speculated, but not confirmed.
If I were running the Panthers, I'd push that the Rams wanted the guy we selected, too.
For a team that has gone heavily for guys that love the game, McMillian just doesn't sound like a fit based upon information learned during the pre-draft process.
Someone else mentioned the Rams shopping for bigger WR in the past. Could be a clue, but a similarly sized Jayden Higgins with longer arms and a probably a better vertical was still on the board. IMO, McVay was going to get a TE come hell or high water this draft.
Of course. What has already been stated is good reason to doubt, plus from what I've seen the main source everyone seemed to piggyback on was from Dianna Russini who herself even stated that teams believed the Rams were eyeing McMilian. I don't recall seeing the teams believed qualifier last year.Is there really a good reason to doubt that report? After the Panthers took McMillan there were no other reports of the Rams trying to trade up for another player, unlike in the 2024 draft.
Not to me. Loveland seemed more rare, IMO. Even as a TE he looked like he has the ability to separate from DBs even better than McMillan. I saw McMillian as more of a jump ball specialist and leaned towards Higgins over him.Tet was the better much prospect than Loveland (as long as his heads on straight).
I could convince myself why you trade up for him at 8. I don't know that I can convince myself of trading up to 8 for Loveland.
Well, most thought the trade up with Carolina for Braden Fiske was too much for the Rams to give up. After watching Fiske for a year it was clear the Rams were the winners of that trade. Its also reported the 49ers were interested in trading up for TMac. So maybe its just Carolina was dead set on drafting him.
Agreed. That ‘I don’t watch film’ stuff was from a few years ago according to reports. I think his character concerns were overblown. He was the better prospect imo.Tet was the better much prospect than Loveland (as long as his heads on straight).
I could convince myself why you trade up for him at 8. I don't know that I can convince myself of trading up to 8 for Loveland.
So, the Panthers people are lying? To what end? What do they have to gain by making up a lie that the Rams wanted to trade up for McMillan? It seems counter productive for future relations.Of course. And last year, the video the confirmed a lot of the post-draft scuttlebutt didn't come out until mid June on Roku.
I've not seen where anyone from the Panthers has said that McMillian was the Rams target. I've just seen media speculation from what other teams believed. So, the Panthers people are lying? To what end? What do they have to gain by making up a lie that the Rams wanted to trade up for McMillan? It seems counter productive for future relations.
Even if one agrees, it doesn't mean the Rams would have selected the "impressive" players. To get Fiske the Rams ended up giving 2024's #52 and #155 as well as 2025's #57.
So it turned out to be a 3-player for Fiske deal.
The list of players the Rams could have drafted with those 3 picks is pretty impressive, especially the #57 in 2025.
I think the jury is still out on the Fiske deal.

Yeah, I wouldn't have been happy giving up a bunch of draft capital for him, that's for sure. But I guess I could have convinced myself why they did it.Not to me. Loveland seemed more rare, IMO. Even as a TE he looked like he has the ability to separate from DBs even better than McMillan. I saw McMillian as more of a jump ball specialist and leaned towards Higgins over him.
But, I wouldn't have and glad the Rams couldn't / didn't trade up for either of them.
