Ok! Apparently, I'll be in the dog house with you if I don't go. I can't have that happen! And, I remember all you said about traveling to Rams games. So, I'll be there. I'm bringing my wife, son and father.

I don't think the Rams have lost in AZ for the last 5 seasons, so here's hoping for another beat down of the Cards!
That's the spirit @Karate61 ! I know you will have fun with the Misses, your son (who is a fine young man that takes after his father) and of course your Dad. Wish I could share these moments with my Dad.

Enjoy and bring us good luck!

Jared Goff Illuminates Path For Josh Rosen

The rookie quarterback gathered himself and raised slowly from the turf, the victim of another big hit amid another blowout loss.

It was a well-worn image on Sunday, as Cardinals first-round pick Josh Rosen dealt with a rocky performance on the road against the Falcons. But it was also a familiar scene on New Year’s Day of 2017, when the Cardinals went to Los Angeles for their regular season finale and pummeled Jared Goff.

The 44-6 loss wrapped up an 0-7 debut campaign for the Rams quarterback, and invited an offseason of hand-wringing about the No. 1 overall pick’s future in the NFL.

Goff, of course, turned out just fine. Despite a recent skid, the signal-caller has gone 22-7 over the past two seasons with 8,077 passing yards, 55 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 99.

Now that Goff has found his professional footing, he doled out some advice to Rosen during his Wednesday press conference in Los Angeles.

“Every experience – positive, negative and in between – will be valuable for you in the future,” Goff said. “That’s something that I tried to take away when I was going through a similar situation. And just understand that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Rams (11-3) have lost two in a row heading into Sunday’s contest against the Cardinals but are heavy favorites because there is a great disparity between the two passing games.

Goff was named to the Pro Bowl, while Rosen sits with the lowest yards-per-attempt average in the NFL (6.1) and the second-lowest quarterback rating (66.3), ahead of only fellow rookie Josh Allen.

Plenty of quarterbacks have struggled as rookies and eventually flamed out of the NFL. However, myriad others have experienced a second-year turnaround like Goff. Peyton Manning led the league in interceptions as rookie with 28, while Troy Aikman, Andrew Luck and Carson Wentz were among those who also took time to evolve.

Rosen is hoping his current trials will help him follow that path.

“I think mistakes are valuable,” Rosen said. “You want to minimize them, but more importantly, you don’t want to make them twice. I’ve made plenty of them this year, and hopefully I’m for the most part not making the same mistakes twice, just finding new ones to make.”

Cardinals defensive tackle Corey Peters had a close view of Goff’s early struggles, and he has noticed the subsequent growth. He believes Rosen can take the same trajectory.

“Year One can kind of be a drinking-out-of-the-fire-hydrant kind of thing,” Peters said. “You’re trying to take on a lot. It’s a big jump, a long season. You’re going from college to training for the combine to OTAs. It’s very draining, and it’s tough on everybody. I couldn’t imagine being a quarterback and trying to step in the there and do things so quickly.”

Rosen is doing his best. He knows that star Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald will be lurking on Sunday, and that his reads must be decisive. While it may not have been readily apparent in Atlanta, Rosen feels like there has been progress in that regard.

Will he join Goff and the others who shook off a bad rookie season and went on to stardom? That’s to be determined. With two games left, Rosen hopes to end the year headed in the right direction.

“When you can have less arguments with yourself in your head about what you think it is, that’s when you start to play a little faster,” Rosen said.

Are those internal conversations dwindling?

“More and more,” Rosen said.
----------------------
This article strongly supports my contention that Rosen ought to start the remaining two games. And barring something extreme, he ought to finish them too. Wilks's decision to play is one decision that I fully support. These remaining two games are against division foes and he needs the experience in reading their defenses since he'll be seeing each of them twice next year.

I know others have cited that some coaches worry about developing bad habits, but I think that's only true if you have a QB that isn't ready to start AND you have a long season in front of you. Rosen faces neither. He is ready to start, and there are only two remaining games. I doubt he'll be developing any type of habit (good or bad) in two games.

When BA was a QB coach for Peyton Manning, Peyton asked to be pulled during one game because he was struggling mightily. BA refused. Bill Belichick, Jon Gruden, Bill Parcells, and Bill Walsh are but a select few very succesful and respected HC's that believe QBs need to play to develop, and they all developed franchise QBs and even won SB rings.

And that's just from a coaching perception. I dare say the great majority of coaches and QB's (Goff, Rodgers, etc) believe a QB can't continue to develop standing on the sidelines holding a clipboard...unless you're Patrick Mahomes who can watch a Probowl caliber veteran QB like Alex Smith play. Who's Rosen gonna watch?

Carson Palmer once said there's a lot a QB can do to protect himself. Learning how not to hold on the ball too long is paramount among those tactics. Because he's a competitor, Rosen holds onto the ball too long in a desperate effort to make something happen.

He has to learn that he's just one of 11 men on the team and to throw the ball away when nothing is there. Hopefully, that's something he learns to do in the next two games. He won't learn that sitting on the sidelines. The coaches can also help Rosen out by using a healthy dose of running the ball.

And for those who cite injury, football is inherently a violent sport. But the NFL has recently bent over backwards to protect QBs. With the new rules, opponents have to let up when a QB is sacked. No longer can they use their 300 plus lbs to drive a QB into the turf to punish him. Referees are quicker to call "in the grasp".

There are severe penalties for helmet to helmet contact and even an incidental forearm to the helmet of a QB is a 15 yard penalty. If we're so worried about Rosen suffering an injury that we bench him when he's healthy, then we drafted the wrong player. Let him play football.
--------------
You and Wilks are just plain stupid if you think Rosen should play. He was killed against Atlanta and the Rams and Seahawks will analate him completely! You obviously haven't been a Cardinals fan for very long if you want to risk our franchise quarterback getting injured. You just spout off your opinion and pretend it is fact.

Nobody here agrees with you and have tried to tell you about injuries and bad habits for what? Nothing will change this season, so why risk it? But you don't listen and think you are smarter than everybody else. You never listen to anybody else so do us all a favor and STFU! We're tired of you polluting this site with your garbage.
--------------
Funny, I compared Rosen to Goff in the draft and many times since.

Sure experience helped Goff, but more importantly was the changes around him.
First, McVay, a QB friendly coach was hired.
Second, the rams went out and signed Whitworth at LT and Sullivan at Center. Two veterans who solidified the oline.
Third, they signed Robert Woods, drafted Cooper Cupp, traded for Brandin Cooks and drafted a pair of TEs
Forth, the coach devised an offense that went through their star 1st round RB.

If Rosen wants to take that next step, the cards need to follow the steps that the Rams did with Goff.
-------------
I agree, most significantly is the coach. Goff released the ball a lot quicker than when he was a rookie, then with all the players around him, Rams offense stands out. Rosen, don't go to far, just compare him to Glennon, Rosen is still too slow, this is just from those very short times Glennon played, with the same OL, same offensive weapons, against same defense. If Cards don't get a good caoch to develop Rosen, this could be Leinart the second.

Larry Fitzgerald offers reasons to be optimistic about Josh Rosen's future with Cardinals
The future Hall of Famer details Rosen's development
10h ago

As the NFL community heaps praise on Baker Mayfield, who has led the Brownsout of a state of despair and into relevancy, Cardinals rookie quarterback Josh Rosen is quietly toiling away in Arizona, where he's undergoing a typical developmental season that's included plenty of growing pains as the Cardinals head toward a likely three- or four-win season.

Despite his early struggles, future Hall of Famer and Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald remains high on Rosen's future outlook. Appearing on CBS Sports HQ's "Reiter's Block" on Thursday, Fitzgerald told Bill Reiter why Cardinals fans should be optimistic about Rosen and their future.

"As soon as he stepped on campus, he was pretty mature as a man. He's got a wide array of interests. He's really intellectually curious. Just overall a fun guy to be around," he said. "Football-wise, he's got some experience, got a couple of games under his belt, and every single week he's progressing in the right direction with the reads and accuracy and just his knowledge of the system. He's only going to continue to get better.

"We've been decimated on the offensive line, so it's been a struggle for him in that. Besides that, he's been playing outstanding."

Fitzgerald went on to say Rosen has "unbelievable arm strength" and can make "tight contested throws under duress."

Reiter and Fitzgerald also went on to talk about the struggles of this season, how Fitzgerald has sustained his high level of play for the past 15 seasons, the advice Fitzgerald would give to younger receivers, and who his role models were when he first entered the league. To watch the complete interview, just scroll up. The video should be playing at the top of this story.

The Cardinals close out the season against the Rams and Seahawks as they try to play spoiler down the stretch, and you can stream those games on fuboTV (Try for free). Fitzgerald also has some individual reasons to play for as the season comes to a close. As it stands, Fitzgerald is 32 catches behind Tony Gonzalez for the second-most catches in NFL history and one touchdown catch behind Antonio Gates for the sixth-most touchdown catches ever.

Never understood this logic. Not everybody is available because they suck.

Goes in line with the commercialized unorginal BUllshit ESPN spews. Also in line with the other bullshit saying “ it’s a trap game, a trap game, meeeeeh”

Fucking parrots. Listening to those shitheads and repeating what they say doesn’t make you sound like you have football IQ.

I mean, if we struggle against this year's Cards, it doesn't mean that they suddenly got better, it means we are really confused as a team right now and that we will get murdered by whoever we face in January.
Now I am an optimist and I think getting a big win against a weak team will do a lot to give us our confidence back. I think playing the worst team in the league at home is exactly what we needed to get back on track because we are in a confidence slump right now

@Prime Time, thought there was a waiting period when a player may contact or join a team if they are playing the old team is that correct?

A player with less than 4 years in the NFL once waived can immediately be claimed by any team but it goes by order. The Cardinals were first in line due to having the worst record and claimed him.

It's common for teams to sign a player recently cut by a team they are to play next in order to pick their brains and to get an advantage. Someone correct me here if I'm wrong.

What's wrong with the Rams' offense? Here's why the once unstoppable force isn't quite the same

As recently as a month ago, the Los Angeles Rams appeared to have an offense that was damn near unstoppable. Through the first 10 weeks of the season, the Rams gained more yards than any team in the league and also ranked second in the NFL in scoring. Their offense was both efficient (NFL-high 6.9 yards per play) and explosive (58 plays that gained 20 or more yards, second in the NFL), and as such ranked second in the NFL in Football Outsiders' DVOA.

At the time, the Rams and coach Sean McVay were being universally lauded for their unique offensive philosophy, where in they used 11 personnel (one running back, one tight end, three wide receivers) on 98 percent of their offensive snaps, with the same exact 11 players playing almost all of those snaps. (Todd Gurley would get a breather every now and then, while Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp missed some time due to injuries, but when everyone was healthy, the same guys were on the field for essentially every important snap of every game.) Aligning this way meant they could make almost every single play look exactly the same right up until the moment that it became something different, which allowed them to confuse defenses with motion and play-action, creating enormous holes through which Gurley could run or Jared Goff could throw the football.

5 questions with Cards Wire
By: Cameron DaSilva

GettyImages-1034531500.jpg

The Los Angeles Rams are looking for their second straight regular-season sweep of the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday after beating them 34-0 in Week 2. Since Sean McVay took over, the Rams have outscored Arizona 99-16 in three games.

To get a gauge of what’s gone wrong (and right) for the Cardinals this season, we talked to Cards Wire editor Jess Root. He shared some insight on Josh Rosen, Sunday’s matchup and how the Cardinals plan to use Patrick Peterson.

1. How has Josh Rosen looked this season, considering how bad Arizona’s offensive line has been?
Rosen’s numbers look pretty bad and there doesn’t appear to be any one thing he does well. He is turning the ball over, his throws are often inaccurate or late, he is under pressure and he doesn’t always make the right read. However, everyone in the organization believes in him. He appears unflappable. He has had his moments.

His debut start was great. He has two game-winning drives. But he doesn’t get much help. He has the second-highest pressure rate, the second-highest drop rate from his pass catchers and a running game in the bottom three of the league.

Considering not a single player from the projected starting offensive line is playing (four are on injured reserve and one was cut for being terrible), it’s about what anyone could expect.

2. Besides David Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald, who do the Rams have to worry about on the Cardinals’ offense?
If we are being honest, no. The Cardinals have the worst offense in football. The best real threat they had for much of the season was Christian Kirk and he is on IR. Two players worth watching are rookie WR Trent Sherfield and rookie RB Chase Edmonds.

3. How has Arizona deployed Patrick Peterson? Does he shadow No. 1 receivers usually?
Mostly, yes. You won’t see him in the slot, though. The Cardinals mix up coverages quite a bit and against teams with multiple top threats, they don’t always stick him to one guy, but I would expect him to mostly handle Brandin Cooks.

4. What has been the silver lining of this season for the Cardinals?
That next year has to be better? Truthfully, it is the play of the rookie class. Rosen looks promising. So does Christian Kirk. Mason Cole has played every snap at center. Chase Edmonds appears he will be a weapon moving forward. Korey Cunningham could be a starter next year. Colby Gossett and Trent Sherfield might be good depth next year. There have been a lot of reps for guys who could contribute for many years. Hopefully, Rosen takes his lumps now and can make a leap like Jared Goff did last year.

5. What’s your final score prediction? Is there any way Arizona can keep this close?
I don’t think it will be close necessarily, but not really the blowout it has been against the Rams over the last two seasons. The defense will play decently well but the Rams will pull ahead late. 27-13 L.A.

Could Wilks save his job with wins against the Rams and Hags?

I really should be spotting money on the Rams and Seahawks to cover the spread. And to answer your question, NO, two wins with divine intervention should not save his job.
-----------
getting bosa would be a nice consolation for this apocalypse of a season.
-----------
Can pigs fly and will monkeys fly out of someone's butt on this forum
-----------
I've seen crazier things happen but the Rams are coming off of a tough loss at home. They're going to beat up on us like we owe them money.
------------
I had a nightmare last night...It was vivid and felt so real. It involved the Cardinals winning this week. A couple of defensive touchdowns by the Cards and a miracle happened. We lost the number one pick...I’m still disturbed by it.

http://arizonacardinals.freeforums.net/thread/978/welcome-cardinals-wr-pharoh-cooper

Welcome to the Cardinals WR Pharoh Cooper!

Something Cardinals related that I’m actually excited for! Back on the old board I used to complain how we dendritic have a dedicated kick returner, and in the 2016 draft was hoping we would go after Cooper if he fell to the 4th or 5th round to be used as a returner with development potential at WR. Last year he was the league’s leader in yards per kickoff return, and a Pro Bowl returner at 22 yrs old.

This year he injured his foot Week 1 for the Rams and with their loaded roster was put on IR. The amazing Cooper Kupp is now their future return guy (now also injured). Rams activated Cooper but needed RB depth for their playoff run so cut Cooper to make room, and we had first shot at him and took it. I hope he sticks and contributes as a returner and possibly WR for Josh in years to come. I liked him a lot coming out of college.
-------------
NFL draft profile for those interested. “A QB-friendly WR” due to his discipline and toughness on short routes plus ability to gain yards after catch. Could be helpful to Josh with a poor Oline, needing to dump the ball off quickly.

www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/pharoh-cooper?id=2555419#tabs:tab-overview
-----------
This is actually a very solid pickup....it makes one wonder why the Rams cut him....hmmmmm. Beggars cant be choosy. It should be noted that we have the #1 pick therefore we have the #1 waiver claim. There wouldve been a feeding frenzy to claim him if not us.

This is more of a 2019 signing. He could very well slide in as our #2-#3 WR (depending whos #1 after Larry retires). And he immediately is our special teams returner. Good signing. Still Keim gets fired.

And MAN what a fall from grace for Cooper. Goes from a superbowl contender to the worst team in the league. Life comes at you fast
------------
I think the Rams cut him because they needed room for CJ Anderson at RB while Gurley is beat up, he is just off IR and working back into KR shape, they bought a very full roster for this year’s run, and have Kupp for returns in the future. Rich team problems, and as the poor team we got first crack at him.
------------
No brainer in my mind. He is under contract for $720k next year. Why not bring him and kick the tires. I told my friend we should scoop him up, didnt think it would actually happen.
----------
People were mocking this on social media, I actually really like the pickup. Developmental receiver, but in the mean time can be a contributor on special teams. I do think it spells the end for TJ Logan if Cooper can get up to full fitness.
-----------
When I heard Cooper was signed, my heart skipped a beat. Then I heard Rams "receiver". Whew.
------------
A great kick returner can give you an average of five yards better field position per return. Cooper was a great returner coming out of college in 2016 and by 2017 led the league and was a special teams Pro Bowler. Now just 23 years old, and under contract next year for just over league minimum money. What would you pay for an extra 5 yard penalty awarded to us each return? An extra free 25-35 yards per game?

On top of that, he’s not the typical little shifty guy who lasts a few years before getting hurt, a tiny WR or RB or CB who can’t contribute elsewhere. He’s strong and disciplined, a tough straight line runner who can develop into a decent sized weapon for short initial gains with big after the catch potential. Critical for Josh considering Fitz is currently our guy for that and may be gone soon, and considering our TE situation.

There is no downside or risk in this pickup.
------------
We're like the beggar on the street when the rich guy goes by and hands us a nickel. I guess it's better then the pennies we have.
------------
I also like this pickup especially since JJ Nelson will be gone. Next yr Pharoh could be a slot receiver with speed -- I really like the fact that Cooper and Kirk both can run jet sweep action and allows whomever the OC will be to setup very effective WR screens to either side of a formation if Cooper/Kirk are on opposite sides... provides flexibility and more than adequate upgrade from JJ Nelson.

Hey -- I think SK might have gotten back at the Rams to somewhat makeup for the idiocy of saving a roster spot (few yrs ago) for Drew Butler and allowing Marqui Christian to be selected off waivers.
------------

Los Angeles Rams @AZ Cardinals Pregame Thread

What a way to end at home.

The Rams are the new Seahawks now the most disliked foe

Look at them and see what a coaching change can do.

Also great drafting and trades.

Hate to say it but 3-13 will be the sure fire way to end this miserable season
with a new Head Coach.

We have so many holes WR, DB, OL,OL,OL,OL, TE, PK
-------------
There is nothing about the 2018 season that is worth saving. If ARI competes v. the Rams and Hawks, and 2 more losses are almost assured, then the end of 2018 won't stink so bad. Stink bad = downwind from a 10,000-head eastern Nebraska stockyard on a hot summer day. I've been there.
-------------
Gurley is most likely to sit this one out. McVay wants to save the wear and tear on Gurley for the Playoffs. Give his sore knee some much needed reat when the games really count.

Does that mean the Cards will win? Not really, but it will make it a bit less of a blow out. Now if CJ and/or Golden can sack Goff a couple times early in the game, then it might be at least a respectable showing by the Cards.

And please Leftwich get Fitz involved early in this game, Please.
-------------
Will McVay save his players for the playoffs? I don’t think the Rams will take any chances. It doesn’t matter if they lose. Still get the bye if they lose. I’m thinking the Cardinals will play hard and try to win.

I hope they don’t win, but there is a possibility they will. That would kinda suck.. imho
------------
This is what worries me as the Rams have looked horrible of late losing to the Bears and Eagles the past two weeks. We are at home and might just win a meaningless game. Although the Rams are playing for a bye to rest some of their players and the Bears and Saints both hold advantage over them in head to head so hopefully the Rams realize this and don't take us lightly.

The Seahawks will be eliminated from the playoffs after this week and won't have anything to play for so that worries me as well. Both games are trap games for us. LOL.
