Is it, though? They're asking for proof that post-career surgeries were necessary because of injuries suffered during the career. And based on their history, they aren't doing this because they're truly concerned.
Fair enough… that program has a poor history of some really egregious behaviors
That said, for as much healthcare as he’s used, if he doesn’t maintain a personal copy of his medical records, that’s on him.
Every few years, I get full copies of mine (I’m due again) expressly because I may need it for… something. I never know what these days…
Typically, in the summary and notes, the Dr will address WHY the surgery is happening and the non-surgical options taken or declined and the reasons.
That’s the EASY part. Having to submit this kind of info isn’t nearly the burden it was pre-HIPAA and pre e-records unless you need info that hasn’t been uploaded and is still archived. That, my friend, is a PITA.
My VA file was lost for over a decade because it was literally dropped down an elevator shaft by a VA employee. They get graded on speed, so long, involved cases would hurt their scores, so in the Baltimore office, they’d dumped THOUSANDS of records down that shaft. Recreating parts of that record? That was hard and frustrating.
Welker could get all of his stuff with a few calls in about an hour…
I don’t see the burden. Also, he’s not in a hospital bed and incapacitated like that one player who the benefits program was doing super dirty…
Should they have a portal where former players can upload current health information related to injuries related to their playing days? Sure! That would solve a lot of these issues and be a proactive step.
Maybe I’m just misunderstanding this while thing.
