Could it be that Kromer thinks more time will result in improved performance? Noteboom saw very little playing time his rookie season. So basically he was redshirted and last season was his first. At a position he wasn't originally drafted for. Maybe gets better? I see some who want to give up on him already. There were a few guys who struggled early last year but improved towards the end of the season. Maybe Noteboom will be one of those guys this year?
Yes Noteboom saw only 78 snaps with the 2018 offense in his rookie season all were @ OT not OG. I observed most all those LT snaps & yes Noteboom did a good job in those limited samples @ OT. Kromer has had nearly 400 Noteboom LG offensive snaps starring back @ him from the 2019 season this off season to add to what Kromer saw in 2018.

PFF sure did not think much of Noteboom's 2019 performance last season where he grated 39. David Edwards overall grade was 61. Austin Corbett was 52. Brian Allen was rated 58.6.

Kromer selected Noteboom as his starting OG early in 2019 & thus far it appears he had repeated the same this upcoming season too. Very hard for me to erase Noteboom LG 2019 performance from my mind @ this time.
Hard to tell yet what is happening with Noteboom. Maybe Kromer just wants to see him in action after the injury. Maybe there's a feeling that, as a starter who lost his position due to injury, Noteboom deserves at least some opportunity to regain it even if only as a matter of professional respect or courtesy. Maybe he is just a backup at guard getting some reps. Or maybe Kromer just has more confidence in him as a starting guard than this board does.

Kromer has always switched up and crossed trained guys at different positions. You would think that he would do less of that this year and go straight to getting his starters ready at their established spots. But it's also true that training up the reserves is important, maybe more so with the threat of someone being sidelined at any time by a covid test.

Either way I'm glad to see Noteboom on the field and ready for competitive play. And I think Kromer knows what he is doing. If Noteboom is good enough to get a serious look at starting at guard again over others we expected - surprising as this may seem-- then this is a positive as far as I'm concerned. This at least means we are going to have some strong depth on the o-line.
I have no issues with LG getting some refresher time working the LG post. I would prefer that the reps he is getting with the #1 unit modifies to where Noteboom is getting more & more reps in @ LT as Whitworth's understudy! How many reps does Andrew Whitworth have in him now that he is moving in close on 39 yr old? I certainly want Noteboom to be the #6 OL'er. Could be that Kromer might consider having Noteboom being the left side LT/LG reserve with Evans/Edwards being the Right side RT/RG top reserve?

Austin Corbett lined up @ RG with #1's OL unit is a surprise too. Knocking our best overall improved 2019 OL'er David Edwards out of the #1 OL unit was not expected. Could be that Corbett has put the time in the gym this off season to get considered for that RG post.

Speaking of OT Bobby Evans....seems our new rookie ER Lewis is giving Bobby some headaches.

Kromer has a 6-2/315 OG Tremayne Anchrum getting reps @ LT for Whitworth
Then for the second day, Kromer :zany: has returned to 2019 initial starter @ LG whose performance was pure :poop: @ LG?:hellno::stop::explode:

What could be the objective in this LG situation when you have so many other prospective starting LG candidates like Corbett, Edwards & Evans...... Squander use of rare precious valuable practice time IMO.

I like Noteboom as a prospective tackle ... but no, not as a guard. I felt like Edwards did better at the position last year ... probably because he did.

Agreed. Wasn't gonna comment but if you watched last year's games and paid attention to him, a good rush is going to give him probs more often than not.

But I don't want to take away from Lewis putting up some good rushes. Been kind of hard on him but at this point he's showing up so that's a good thing.

Still not a fan of Boom being a G. I understand Mcvay is happy with Notebooms progress but its only training camp and we've seen guys flash in camp and then not work out in actual games. I haven't forgotten how the line looked with Boom at LG and I'm not going to pretend like it's going to be better this time around. I could be wrong but I still think the line will be Whit Corbett Blythe Edwards Havenstien. With that said If the OGs end up being Noteboom and Corbett and they do great then I'll be happy. I'm not picking favorites I just want the Rams to win.

Probably wouldn't last a practice lol.
Nah, most fans would probably freeze up and not make any changes or make a couple of changes, not realize they made a mistake and never change anything again. There's a reason most people don't make good managers and even fewer make good leaders.
