Jefferson's highlights from college...5th rounder that the Seahawks traded up for last year.. was hurt last year, carried over into camp and never got going to get a chance to make roster. Article I saw stated the Seahawks would bring him back, but they did not expect him to clear waivers.

OVERVIEW

Aaron Neary played in 46 games during his four-year career at Eastern Washington.

PRO DAY RESULTS

40-yard dash: 5.12 seconds
Vertical: 28 1/2 inches
Broad jump: 8 feet, 10 inches
Short shuttle: 4.37 seconds
3-cone: 7.59 seconds
Bench: 18 reps of 225 pounds
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Former high school basketball player with quality footwork. Easy movement skills in lateral game and with short pulls. Runs feet into another gear to pin defender when he smells a positional advantage. Plays with desired hand strength to latch onto defenders and ride out the rep. Able to bring some force behind his punch. Good arm length for his size.
WEAKNESSES
Small for the interior and lacking core power and body control. High cut with bad weight around his midsection. Might not be able to carry enough "good weight" for the position. In need of better angles with his backside blocks. Unable to lockout defender and hold his ground.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Undrafted free agent
BOTTOM LINE
Neary plays with pretty good pop in his hands and has enough athleticism to flash from time to time. However, Neary lacks the frame and power to handle bigger interior defenders who can push through block attempts. His competitiveness and hand strength give him a chance on each rep, but against better competition, it is unlikely to be enough.

J.J. Dielman

OVERVIEW

One of the top offensive linemen in the Pac-12 couldn't find a place on the all-conference squad this season because a leg injury ended his senior year after five games. Dielman, the cousin of former NFL lineman Kris Dielman, was a team captain and started at center for the Utes in 2016 after starting all 26 games in 2014 and 2015 at the right tackle spot. J.J. (which stands for Jeffrey Joseph) was a second-team All-Pac-12 pick as a junior. The Arizona high school all-state pick redshirted his first year in Salt Lake City and played in one game as a reserve in 2013 before becoming a fixture on Utah's line.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Has three years of experience at right tackle to go along with his newfound snaps at center. Has quick feet and good flexibility through his hips. Possesses desired body control. Talented work-up blocker who finds his second-level targets and strikes with accuracy. Can get to the difficult angles. Will work to bend knees after engagement to improve his leverage. Quick to flip hips and wall off his man. Works well with guards in handoff on combo blocks. Plays with good determination and effort. Rides the bull as long as he can after engaging with bigger defenders. Has tackle feet to mirror pass rushers along interior.
WEAKNESSES
Has short arms. Unlikely to offer tackle flexibility on roster due to a lack of length. Will need to add more bulk to prepare for NFL battles. Below average core strength. Finds himself hanging on rather than improving positioning. Finesse player in need of stellar technique without addition of play strength. Unable to create push at the point of attack without help. Can improve with securing on second level. Season-ending foot injury will have to be cleared at combine.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 7-PFA
NFL COMPARISON
Wesley Johnson
BOTTOM LINE
An athletic center with the plus athleticism of a three-year tackle, but he lacks the core power that some teams will require from an interior lineman. Needs to bulk up and add as much strength as possible in order to be a functional NFL player. While his movement skills will be enticing for zone-scheme teams, he could be limited by scheme fit, which narrows the teams who might consider drafting him.

So who goes? Blythe? Walker? I assume one or more of the Dbs since they have 11 on roster.

Quinton Jefferson

OVERVIEW

A highly regarded high school recruit from Pennsylvania, Jefferson's career got off to a shaky start. His jaw was broken during a fight back home, putting off the beginning of his workouts with teammates. He came back, though, to play in nine games as a reserve (13 tackles) as a true freshman. Finally healthy and familiar with the defensive scheme, he started all 13 games in 2013 (45 tackles, 7.5 for loss, three sacks). Looking to build upon that performance, Jefferson started three games in 2014 (eight tackles, one for loss) but suffered a torn right ACL against West Virginia. He came back with a vengeance for his redshirt junior year, earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors with 12.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, interceptions, and a blocked kick. The father of three then decided it was time to move on to the next level instead of returning to Maryland for his fifth campaign with the Terps.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Can come off the snap with low pad level and make initial penetration with leverage into the gap. Is a different player when his motor is right. Shows some disruptive qualities when he commits to the attack. Rushes passer with head fakes and stutter steps that create uncertainty in blockers. Flashes upper body strength. Has a nifty swim move tied to a jump cut for his go-to inside move. Married with children. Scouts consider him grounded.
WEAKNESSES
As play develops, pad level rises and allows himself to be redirected with punches under his armpit. Doesn't fire off the snap and into blockers with much juice. Rushes with a narrow base causing balance inconsistencies. Has thin ankles and below average lower body power. Lack of power in his base prevents him from fighting back against wash down blocks on the move. Suffered a torn ACL in 2014 that will have to pass medicals.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Rounds 6 or 7
BOTTOM LINE
High cut 3-technique with good upper body strength but below average lower body power to take a stand. Jefferson flashes penetration ability and some pass rushing talent, but he needs to be fitted to a 1-gap, upfield defense and will have to make a team as a rotational lineman.

Where does the practice squad fit in?
Any player eligible for the practice squad must first go through waivers to make the 10-man roster. If a player makes it unclaimed through waivers, he is then eligible to join the practice squad of any team he desires. Typically if there’s mutual interest, they’ll rejoin the team that waived them out of courtesy and familiarity, but it is not required.

If a player is claimed by a team, he may not go to their practice squad. To make it on their practice squad, he must be waived again and go unclaimed by all other teams.

For this weekend, teams can start adding unclaimed waived players to their practice squad starting at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

What is the waiver wire?
The NFL waiver wire is a system to make sure that teams are given a fair shot at young players in the league that have been cut from another team. When a player is waived, there is a 24-hour period in which they are on “waivers.” Any NFL team that would like to add that player can then put in a claim, and after the waiver claim period is up, the team with the highest priority is awarded the player. He must immediately join their 53-man roster; he cannot be moved to a practice squad if claimed.

He must immediately join their 53-man roster; he cannot be moved to a practice squad if claimed. So the Rams three are on the 53 man roster.

So who gets cut?

I feel pretty good about getting Dielman. As posted, Bengals wanted to put him on their PS. I just watched some of the Bengals/Colts match-up on Gamepass and particularly watched for Dielman. Now--of course he was playing against back-ups but I thought he looked pretty good at center. Decent size, moves well--maybe needs to add a little strength but looked very comfortable to me. I just watched from about the second series through the 3rd quarter. For anyone who wanted to watch--he comes in around the second series for the Bengals of the second half and wears #64.

Wow....we shoulda DRAFTED JJ Dielman....oh welll.....Just like Sammy Watkins...anyhoots

I really like this guy at Center...I'm sure some of the O_line guys in here will too...Something about those Ute's...they were turning into a nasty bunch...It's how I happened to see Bolles...Who should be a good one as well for the Broncos...But athletic...nasty....and was pretty strong to me...and has a body type that says he will get stronger. Just think, it was thought he also had Lis Franc injury on his foot...and he's already playing...

Would have liked Schofield
shoulda drafted him too...

If the rams are convinced Sullivan is over his back trouble, then Blythe could go. But it sure seems he played pretty well at RG this preseason.
