Personally I don't want a permanent team in London.

I'm just fine with the International Series the way it is.

Most NFL fans in Europe have their team already and wouldn't switch just to support a "local" team. You'll end up with a stadium full of neutral fans, which I suppose is better than a stadium full of opposition fans..........

@London_Ram had it right about the schedule. Blocks of four games allow for stability.

East coast base to ensure quality product and not having a London franchise always scrambling for training facilities in the US during their 4-game abroad visits.

NFL has to be super concerned about the Chargers in the new Sofi Stadium. That’s gonna be a shit show and a real black eye in their premier new venue.

London will be a bit of a draw for some as the endorsement opportunities will be substantial with less competition.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

For teams outside the Chargers division, a London trip would happen every three or four years. Not bad. But being in the same division with the Chargers would mean a London game every year. And if the Chargers do move to London, they would probably need to swap divisions with another team. Having the Raiders, Chiefs, and Broncos travel to London every year would be brutal.

Totally unfair to an division rival.

It'll work no bother. The distance from London to NY is much the same as NY to Cali and that works fine. You would just need to base them in an east coast division and make sure the schedule allowed byes for teams visiting London.

The salary cap and effective forcing of employees to work in a specific place via the draft is currently incompatible with European employment law but after Brexit that's not going to be an issue.

The reason it wont be the Chargers is Stan. He's counting on the 10 Chargers games a year to help fund his over-budget stadium. The NFL may want the Chargers out of LA but you can bet Stan doesn't.

3.5 hours from NYC to LONDON. NFL buys a Concord2.0 whose only job is to ferry teams back and forth from London. The Virgin Atlantic NFL SuperSonic BUS!

I don't see it happening, not with the logistics involved. However, @Bootleg you would need to swap divisions, but IMO, they could change with Houston, but having a London team in the AFC South, just sounds silly. Quite frankly, if the NFL truly wanted to make it work, they would swap the London team with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East, logistically, it would make sense, but it would never happen.

I just don't see how this could work, but I do believe Alex Spansos would sell his soul to make a buck.

How long were the Falcons in the NFC West?

Now I was only half joking about the Concorde or its equivalent being used to ferry teams over the pond, or the Chargers to the states. 3.5 hours from NYC to London. It can be done.

While I think realignment would make things work better, I would go a bit farther than den-the-coach suggested. San Diego/London in the AFC East. Miami to the AFC South. Then Houston to the AFC West. That would make it East: NE/NY/Buff/Lon. South: IND/Tenn/Jax/Mia. North: Pitt/Clev/Cin/Bal. West: KC/Hou/Den/ Vegas.

Now a full realignment......is needed. But the Chowboys will never let it happen.

Oh those poor teams that have to travel to London once a year. . . .

Forgetting that the Rams have done that 3 years in a row now for "home" games?

Hmmm. . .
How about if Spanos went from paying token rent and no game day revenue to Stan as a tenant at Sofi to paying Stan massive rent plus extras as Stan's tenant at Emirates in the UK?

NFL wants to go international, Mexico City is a ready made solution. Chargers already have a large fan base there, having played 30 feet from the border of Mexico for the past 50 years. Staying in the AFC West, travel and scheduling not near the logistic problem London presents. Sofi staduim only will have the Rams so they can leverage other NFL teams about moving them.

Makes too much sense, so it will never happen.

NFL should force Spanos to sell, must be someone with the $ in SD and put the team back where it belongs
train
I don't disagree about forcing the team to be sold. I think the NFL would have to suspend it's relocation tax penalty if they want to do it. Right now Spanos would be forced to pay a pretty hefty percentage of any sale to the league. Maybe that's the carrot they dangle in front of him.

I don't know if anyone would pay much for the team if it was headed back to SD though. It would lose at least half a billion in value from the move.

Especially if the London team is a member of the AFC East. Miami is likely moved out and the teams that are left have a seven hour flight. Annoying for sure, but not like LA to London.
