Demby wasn't getting cut. They've been talking him up all camp and teaching him how to play every position on the OL.

We can only hope he's showing better in practice than what little we've seen televised.

Random thoughts:

JFM is the big surprise.

I predicted 7 WR... but thought it would be Hodge over Mufasa (ahem, I mean Simba).

Merlin nailed it with the 7 WR including Simba.

Glad Hatfield and T Young are gone (even though due to injury— woulda been gone anyway)

Hodge can freaking ball. I’ll be absolutely shocked if we can get him on the PS.

I have way more faith in JoJo than most on here. I think Bones has been high on Jojo from the very beginning, I don’t think Jojo was ever in much danger of losing his job.

Fingers crossed for Wolford return.

Wow, Dakota was a thumper. Please come back on PS.

Reeder? Really? Wow.

Natrez Patrick is the hidden gem of the 2019 preseason.

IMO though you see that stuff a lot after games, dudes go into the vent thread to vent and other posters engage with thoughtfulness and intelligence... Which doesn't really need to be in a vent thread, let the natives go apeshit who cares.
Yeah but the venters are amateurs any more. We only had 3 opportunities during the regular season. I suppose by the same token, the anti-venters are ill trained as well.

That all being said, I have never been a fan of the vent threads. They've always been so, so, so venty.

Yeah, if they're venting about something they're wrong about, it's lame. "Oh, so and so made a poor play" when it was a good play and the eff up was elsewhere. Or for this thread "so and so shouldn't have been cut" when their decent performances were against guys who will never play a snap in the NFL, and they just didn't perform well at any other time - well, I'm not impressed.

After the surprise of Allen being cut and keeping Reeder... I understand the move better now. They play different positions really, and Reader's size gives us something that we didn't have at the position. Kiser was kind of projected to be the tough run stopper and with him out, Reeder fits the role..and actually has some decent tape.... Really it's Traven Howard who makes the team over Dakota and you really can't argue that.... I'm hoping Dakota can make it to the practice squad for us...

Howard who's dinged up and can be put on the IR able to return from it soon. Almost as if it was planned that way :D Oh sorry that wasn't a vent my bad.

We also drafted Howard because of his potential on special teams. If he does stick, I imagine it is as a core special teamer, like Daren Bates was for us.

The biggest head scratcher is Nick Scott. Scott ghosted through training camp and preseason, literally did nothing, yet made the roster.

One word for you.

Bones

You saw, maybe, that he was a Bones personal pick during the draft and now you're shocked he made the team?

We cut JFM? Interesting. Didn't expect that. Must have been something going on behind the scenes.

He didn’t stand out against backups and he had a few penalties as well. I’d expect more from what he did last year. Maybe he thought he had a spot wrapped up and didn’t put the off-season effort in. I didn’t expect him to play much this preseason, based on his contributions last year.

I understand that, but i do feel that player should have their peeformance graded the same as anyother player. Do you not agree? We still have no idea where his role is on the team.

Who says he wasn't graded along with the others for ST contributions? And we know exactly what his role is on the team....

Why not a vent thread for cut down day? We all spend time watching and trying to analyze players from offseason reports to camp reports to watching games. We all have favorites.

"The Press" explained some of the thinking behind making the roster moves. For depth guys, their special team contributions are very important.

Who knew that Lawler will not be out long term. Hate that we don't get this info. That changes things. Plus Patrick showing out was a big plus in both LBer versatility and special teams. Reeder over Allen surprised most. Allen still has a chance to make the PS. JFM being cut is a surprise but, he didn't look good in the preseason games.

Really liked Hodge but, Webster is so smooth. McVay mentioned his ability on special teams coverage and returns which gave him that extra plus. He looks to have a bright future. Surprise Kelly was cut.

Hatfield?

Have to see who makes the PS and any other moves before it's all over. Surprises but, nothing to get really upset over for me.

Exactly.
We all knew the choices would be tough, we knew some good players cut. What we don't know is what the coaches do.
