Vent thread Bills at Rams Opener

Bills had the number 1 defense last season and they added Von Miller. They will be hard to beat but luckily they are in the AFC and we won't see them again unless we meet in the Super Bowl. And there's a lot of games, lot of scheme changes, and a lot of roster changes that'll happen between now and then so not worried about it.

I will say this - Cooper Kupp is a bad man. He is uncoverable.

Agreed but if he’s used that much each game he’ll be worn out or worse by week 14.

I think they're gonna have to seriously think some things over. Bring back jumbo packs... bring in a big, physical blocking TE... take a hard look at their guard situation.
Not sure what to think of the defense.. they were on the field too much and got no real help from the offense.
Brandon Powell's decision to bring the ball out on the opening kick on the second half was much bigger, imo, than most are probably giving it credit for. The Oline was getting battered, so it limited the playbook in that part of the field, imo. Maybe I'm putting too much weight on it.. but if that opening series goes a different way, who knows what the second half looks like.

Anyway.. this was also an obvious bad matchup to start the season, as I've said.

Bills in two high mostly and McVay never tries to go heavy, if they even can with their personnel, and run the ball at them, instead stays in 11 and except for a nice outside toss the run was again ineffective.

One thing I hate is it seems like far to often we get absolutely annihilated by great teams or overall physical teams. The NFC Champ game vs 49ers is an exception. And the trend continued last night. Seems like we have a hard time getting up and ready to go against them.

Also, the Bills are great, but the Rams also aren't that bad.

The OL does really worry me. Need to as someone said above, look at jumbo sets and a big physical blocking TE.

Also, where the hell is Akers? Is he really not that ready to go? No offense to DHendo, but if he's your starter, you have a weak RB room.

Bring Michel back please.

This was Coen's offense that much was clear. He didn't adjust well. His routes were not layered in typical McVay fashion, and they were slow developing routes forcing Stafford to hold the ball too long. Coen's only response were swing passes which for the most part were covered. This team is in big trouble if they continue to play Coen's small school offense.

Raheem Morris reverted back to his failed soft zone. Where was Rochell? Long proved last year he couldn't cover. Hill showed his limitations. He was fine if the play was in front of him, he struggled when it wasn't.

The Bills showed once again why you use a lead blocker. The Rams stubbornly refuse to use a lead blocker and wonder why they can't run. They didn't even run their outside zone. Coen needs to go. His playcalling was very poor as was his game plan. It's all fixable, if McVay has the balls to make the changes.

Edward's poor play was on full display. The guy was overrated last year and now there is no escaping it.

No one afraid of Stafford's running which is why his rollouts were ineffective. No playaction, nada. This is how I know this is Coen's offense. The route concepts were poor as well. Scrap Coen't playbook, dustoff last year's playbook and make him call from that. Better yet get a real NFL OC.

I don’t believe New Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen is calling the plays.

I don’t believe the Rams changed their offense to use ‘Coen’s playbook’.

The reason I don’t believe these things is because I have not read or heard anything, reported anywhere, by anyone to suggest that the defending Super Bowl Champions adopted a new offensive playbook and handed the play calling to their first year OC.

This may be an option but it is triage at best. It is a tell that we intend to run. It takes up a skill position and the Bills managed that destruction rushing only 4. We still may need to consider it but it is far from ideal

That was one of the most concerning things to me. I remember thinking wow coach you can’t adjust to that at all? No change in personnel group????

That almost seems to be the Mike Martz stubborn streak and him.

I will say the only "I told you so" that this dumb couch potato fan would say to the McSnead brain trust, who obviously knows this shit a thousand times more than I do, is that get a damn big power back that can move a pile when maybe the OL is not getting it done on their own.

I know they like smaller multi-dimensional backs, but for crissakes Gurley was a power back. The guy that tore up Dallas in that 18' Divisional playoff game was a power back. Probably the greatest rushing game McVay ever had as a coach here.

Get a power back that can catch. Shouldn't be that hard.

How many times do you have to run the ball for a loss before you figure out, it ain't working.
Secondly, what does it take to roll out Stafford 3-4 times per quarter.... to get some WR's involved other than ones named Kupp?

Congrats Bills on winning the Superbo... oops I mean week 1. I expect the defense and most of the team to gradually get better as the season progresses however i am worried about the OL. They really have to do better than last night... sheesh. Not as worried about Boom as I am the interior but boy did he get worked by Von. I think he'll be ok Vons just a badass. Just hoping it doesn't take too long for the OL to get it figured out. On to the next one!

Yeah that room just continues to be filled with pass catchy types that magnify our OL weaknesses when we face top fronts. It is maddening.

If you are going to do that then come into these matchups with no run game plays and a varied set of quick passes to get them the ball. But what we do is line up and get trucked then look surprised.

Like I keep saying McVay is a generational coach who has a hole in his game when it comes to running the ball. And he has zero respect for power backs until he needs to trade for one to get his offense back on track.

It is a funny coincidence, is it not, that both his Super Bowl years he traded for the exact type of back he has disdain for in the offseason. And those two backs got those respective teams back on track then were largely ignored in the big games.

Great as he is the run game is his blind spot. 9ers are ready to start a new win streak given this display.

They don’t grow on trees.

That being said.. they did try to get a really good back… and he blew out his Achilles.
