I must say... after this super Bowl win, Aaron Donald has become quite a celebrity. He has always been a superstar, but since that SB win, and those close-outs of big games on national TV, he has become much more famous.

Here we ago again with these big contracts that everyone on this forum loves.

HOF defensive lineman begin to decline in their age 31 seasons. LT and Warren Sapp are a good example of this.
And this deal is basically for two more years. This isn't some huge long term extension if anything we took a year off his contract potentially.

Seeing a guy like Donald get paid doesn't upset me at all.
Most likely, we'll see a decline.. but, we've never seen someone who works like Donald and it's a different era in sports medicine and training.
Look at LeBron.. freaks are extending their windows.

We'll see what happens with Aaron.

John Randle: 39 sacks in 4 years b/w age 31-34
Reggie White: 82.5 sacks in 7 years b/w age 31-37
Bruce Smith: 57.5 sacks in 5 years b/w age 31-35
Randy White: 23 sacks in 2 years b/w age 31-32

I'm not worried about Donald's ability to sustain a high level of play for another 2-3 years.

Retirement talk is BS...Wake me up when he signs.

No one woke me up when he signed. OK, it's over for now. So $55M deal means he was not about to retire. It's a lot of Ms. AD works for but that has to hurt the cap for others. We need to see what it means moving forward.

Do I see $35M cap hits, after he leaves the team?
Yeah looks like the kind of cap hit a DT will have a hard time living up to. But that's a next year worry I guess, let's go get another trophy. (y)

Per multiple sources, Donald's 2022 cap-hit has been reduced from $26.75M to $24M.

That's a savings of $2.75M in 2022. Not much but it is a reduction.

Same sources have Donald's 2023 cap-hit increasing by $14.5M (from $23.5M to $38M).

I can't think of a more deserving defensive player for this contract. No offense meant, Jalen; you're fantastic, but Donald's simply generational.

Next yr will be rough, unless Kupps new deal can reduce his number next yr.

Before the Donald deal, the Rams were listed as only having $10M in cap space next yr.

So they need to carry over as much as possible to next yr and maybe move a guy or two like they did with Young last yr. Even if it only saves a few Million, it helps because again, they need to count every nickel and maximize them.
