i believe anyone would leave their job for a 4-5 year guarantee of a giant salary 10-15 mil a year
hmmm....no...not necessarily. He made $31 million the last two years....he shoulda did us a solid and took a $9 million or even $8 million deal....hell, I doubt he's worth more that $5.

I'm kinda with Bubba on this one....didn't do us any favor with a franchise tag and his play....he's ok....no where near worth $16.5 a season...

Tru didn't tag himself, the Rams did. And he didn't force the Rams tag him either.

Tru was one of my faves. Yeah we all pretty much agree he's not elite. But he made this D better and gave all. I can respect a dude who shows up and just did his job.

So they are bringing John Sullivan back and since he did us a solid by getting paid the vet minimum last year the Rams should pay him 7 or 8 mill this year because his performance?

Nothing but good thoughts for the player and the man. He did things the right way, was a good player and a good teammate.
Wish him well and he might as well get paid while he can in this sport.

Well, by being difficult in negotiations, he's essentially making Snead/Demoff tag him:fuelfire:....so he forced their hand.

Kinda....meet in the middle somewhere....with some incentives on playing time....I think center position is huge....actually the entire line. But especially center....It took Tim Barnes for me to realize this....I miss the days of Doug Smith:oops:

Well in all honestly, someone’s value is based off of what a team will pay, simple as that, he isn’t worth that to us, but to another team that has a dire need, he is.

He didn’t ask to be tagged, and we don’t know what happened in negotiations whether he was being difficult or not. They need to make all the money they can, because their career can end on any given play...

I agree he’s not worth 16.5 million, to us. He will probably get 12 mil a year over 4-5 years on the open market, and I don’t blame him and wish him well.

Best of luck. He's gonna get paid like a #1 DB; whether it's deserved or not, props to him for taking advantage of an open market.

money makes a mess of many things. i miss the 70's when the only reason the roster changed was either via the draft or retirement. if it hasnt been done, it would make an interesting thread on which teams would have won the super bowls in the 70's with todays salary cap in place. there's no way the steelers keep that gang together.
surprisingly, with all the player losses so far, i think the rams have made the best of the situation with their transactions as well.

I don’t have anything against Tru nor what he got paid. I do think he was being unreasonable in his demands and he will probably end up getting more than he was ever truly worth. Good for him. I think he put the Rams front office in a bad position. Our problem was that we had JJ wanting top dollar and Tru’s agent knew that he had us over a barrel. In hindsight, JJ hasn’t helped his team as much as Tru seems to have.

Good luck to him but he is now dead to me class act tweet or no. I’m thinking we just put ourselves in a better position than bidding on his services would have garnered us.

Wish the best for him but - meh.

Appreciation? Not from me. Only reason you're leaving is you want a bigger paycheck. Forgot you made over 16 mil the past two seasons and possibly kept the Rams from signing other decent players?

Don't let the door hit you on the backside on your way out. Rams have better CB's and for cheaper now. Some other team will pay you that huge paycheck you're not worth.

agreed....but damn....two years in a row???
we don’t know what happened in negotiations whether he was being difficult or not.
I'm gonna assume Tru and his agent were being difficult.....no proof....but I believe they wanted to sign him...and his agent said hell no.

At what point do you have enough money??? To play a kids game? I mean, what the hell is Tom Brady taking team friendly deals? What the hell is Chris Long giving away a years salary? The year after signing for the league minimum at NE....After the last 2 years....he should be signing for 5 mill.

If it's we not me, when does an overpaid guy give back??? Never?...ok, say that at the start.....

Plus

WE SHOULDA TAGGED JJ INSTEAD.

I agree that they probably were asking for too much money over the years which is why he got tagged twice. I also believe he only got tagged last year because Wade wanted to see how he would fit in his system, the fit was OK but not worth the money he was asking which is probably why they let him walk and acquired two CBS that fit wades scheme perfectly.

I completely understand where you’re coming from when you say when can you have enough money? But at the same time these guys deal with repercussions for the rest of their lives for this game that they are playing, so I can’t blame them for chasing the most money that they could possibly get . Tom Brady plays on team family deals but he’s also been playing football in the NFL for 476 years, and probably has another hundred left in him so he’ll make plenty of money, plus it doesn’t hurt that his wife is wealthy and famous as well.

Chris Long was a first round pick before the rookie wage scale was implemented I believe, so he made a ton of money off of his initial contract I made more money off of extensions and what not so he can afford to give away a salary at this point in his career.

And I completely agree that we should’ve tagged JJ instead, we would be really happy with our defensive backfield with him...

Answering questions in order.

Unless you have turned down a lot of money, taking less to do something that might cripple you or cause premature death or insanity, not sure you should question others' reactions. In any case, if it were me, I would factor in wanting to live a great lifestyle while paying a lot in taxes, wanting to do it for the rest of my life to make up the certainty of significant pain when I retire, wanting to protect myself somewhat from some of my investments going south, and wanting to make sure that my children, nieces and nephews, grand children, great grandchildren are all in a good position. I'm not saying I would support them, but I am saying that so long as they put forth an effort, they would never have to pay a penny for school, if they needed help with a downpayment for their first home (again, so long as they know they would have to make the payments) they would get it. If they need help establishing their career post education it would be there (i.e., if one becomes a dentist, there would be help setting up their practice. Not just a gift, but the help they need so that interest rates would be reasonable, so that they don't waste decades of paying rent, etc.

Now, how much money is that? Don't know? Neither do they - so they get more when they can, since they are unlikely to ever have such a chance again.

Chris Long? He's a great guy. He gave up salary, but NOT his signing bonus. Just saying.

When does an overpaid guy give back? I don't know. When does a team give a player who over performs his contract more money just for the underpaid season?

He was selfish as well by taking a huge penalty standing over a WR against the Eagles. Make a good play only to give up 15 yards.
He was in good coverage & then let’s a WR get behind him on to many occasions.
