Numbers look good but, they could be deceiving. Drops and bad throws can make percentages lower. He has made some good plays and I hope he keeps it up. I need to see more of Hill this year before I get really excited. Watching on TV is limited for evaluating a CB. Let's see how he does against the Cowgirls this week.
My biggest concern with him, was his penalties. He looked to me like a PI waiting to happen. He struggled cloaking WRs and wouldn't turn to play the ball.

His solid play as a starter has been huge for us.

Not only am I eating my crow, but I'm going to clean my plate.

Troy Hill has done a nice job of limiting big plays against him and IMO, has improved week over week since becoming the starter. Ramsey defense with attitude, however, on the 4th down play, Ramsey acted like he did something on the coverage, but the receiver simply dropped the football.

Overall I concur with @Ramstien the defense has been playing better since the Ramsey acquisition, albeit, I still believe the unit needs work against the run, but it will get an excellent test come Sunday.

I don't have anything to back this up, it just feels like someone is always coming out of nowhere so to speak.

i don't think Hill has come out of nowhere and many on this board including yours truly, couldn't figure why the Rams liked Hill so much, but he has stepped up since the contract extension when many felt the Rams had better options.

I understand the post, you can find diamonds in the rough with CB's because half the battle is having a short memory.

I like resigning Hill at a very reasonable price. He has been a solid part of the defense. His past ups and downs are making me a little more conservative in evaluating him. I want to see him remain consistent for the rest of the year. I'm going to keep a sharper look at him against the Cowgirls.

Hill has always been a solid - yet imperfect, inconsistent, and at times exploitable - CB. I never understood the hate for him. People complained when he signed his recent deal, saying it was too much money. You need depth in the NFL. Especially at CB. Hill is full value for what he brings to the table. Not everyone can be a Pro Bowler. Guys like him are absolutely necessary to keep around, even if it means paying a bit of money for someone who is not necessarily starting every contest.

I am particularly interested to monitor Troy Hill going forward. Has he turned the corner? Or is he teasing us again, playing at the level of a very solid starter, only to turn in a handful of unimpressive games in a row? If Ramsay were to ever be injured to an extended period of time, the Rams better hope (1) Troy Hill has found himself as an NFL player and/or (2) David Long can handle duties on the outside. Hill has never had the luxury of a Jalen Ramsay beside him before, who can travel the field to mark the opponent's #1 receiving option. That might be just what Hill needs to flourish. When rarely having to square off against #1 wideouts, I am cautiously optimistic he can become much more consistent than in the past.

We were overdue to start hitting on some personnel. That's been going well for the Rams recently though....

Thought Darious Williams looked good yesterday himself. He demonstrated great quick twitch reactions and really got robbed on that INT.

Troy Hill was always pretty solid at Oregon, which honestly is more than I can say for Buckner and Armstead even though they play different positions...

Troy Hill is a zone coverage CB who plays better in off coverage and so he can "read" the play. Sound familiar? He plays like Peters except Hill doesn't go off script. Put him in press man and he's beaten before the snap. He simply doesn't have the acceleration to play that scheme. They need to play Long who is a press man coverage CB. This will force Jimmy G to hold the ball.

Take away the Niner run game and Jimmy showed he can't carry the team because their WR's don't scare anyone. On the flip side, the Niner secondary only had one WR of note to cover and couldn't do it.

If the oline can pass block the Rams win this. But they can't leave Blythe at center because the Niners will exploit him. They knew Rob and Austin were the weak links and exploited it the first time around.

Sorry, just don't see it. Haven't seen anything from Hill that suggests he cannot play man. If you have this, please show examples, I'd love to see it. I haven't seen Hill get beat past 20 yards a single time this year.

Pretty sure you're absolutely wrong on this. Wade has been putting him in man and hes been doing a helluva job doing so. Hes rated as one of the better DBs in the league at man as well.

Are you sure you didn't mean Tye Hill?

Luckily our other corner is a model and classy citizen.

LMAO! On a serious note, Hill made two mistakes in 16/17 - two young, dumb mistakes. By all accounts, has been a perfect citizen since. I would think his maturity on the field and improved play, coming up from nothing, would be evidence of his dedication and hard work.

I actually thought Buckner and Armstead looked pretty good at Oregon. To each their own, I guess. Cheers.

Wish he would not have got hurt early against Dallas. The PI cost & the the play Tavon Austin scored on Williams & Rapp got mixed up !!
Remember all the hype on David Long against Arizona, haven’t seen him sense ??

Against Arizona Hill played well enough to be able to chill on the sidelines.

Mcvay must think a lot about Hill if the is going to start with a cast on his hand ??
