Gilmore and Ramsey type corners get the other teams best receiver usually...Hill tends to get 2nd best...

that said, he is playing very well...

I think Hill has really shown improvement since he was installed as a starter. Just as impressive as his interception against Seattle was the big pass break up where he jumped up and reached in front of the TE(?) and knocked the ball away earlier in the game. That would have been a big gain for Seattle.

Troy Hill is what you wanna see. Waiver wire pick up to starting CB opposite Jalen Ramsey. That’s a sign of a healthy organization. We got guy rising up the depth chart to become solid contributors and role players, like Reader, Evans, Edwards, Hill, Rapp, Christian, Corbett, Higbeast, etc. I mean, not everyone one your squad is gonna be an All-Pro, so it sure is exciting to see guys playing well. I know there has been a lot of talk about contracts and cap space with our premiere players, but it’s guys like this who are doing their job well with mid-level or rookie contracts that make up the rest of the salary cap. The Rams are a solid organization top to bottom. These role players are helping save our season

GO RAMS!

Well said.

Hill is a good player, with inconsistent pockets. That’s pretty typical of your non #1 CB’s all thru the depth guys.

Hold him to that standard and take the occasional mistake as what happens. Thru that lens, he’s perfectly positioned on the salary scale too.

I have to admit was wrong about Hill coming into the season. I thought he was a maxed-out depth player with little room for growth and someone I did not want to see as a long-term starter due to his previous lapses. When he filled in last season he got burned quite bit but he was playing in different situation. He was playing opposite Peters with the so-so version of Joyner as the FS. Plus the Rams did not have a good outside pass rush last year.

This year he is minus JJ but he has Weddle and Rapp as safety support to stabilize things and he has Ramsey taking on the opponents best receiver. In addition the Rams outside pass rush has been a lot better. Overall he has been consistently good and he is really a great compliment to Ramsey.

With the secondary the Rams have now this defense is poised to make some noise if they can get in the playoffs and get in healthy. This team is well-built to handle top passing offenses that rely on speed. The biggest weakness is against power running teams as demonstrated against he Ravens and whiners earlier in the year. They did do a good job against Seattle's power running game the second time (not the first game) but getting the early scores really helped take Seattle out of their comfort zone on offense.

I am friends with one of Troy’s former teachers at University of Oregon. Troy was struggling in class and was needing help qualifying to play for the Ducks. She told me he worked hard and overcame his shortcomings in class and then made the team. He works hard and always tries to improve. I think we saw flashes against Atlanta in that playoff game of what he could be. Look at where he is now. The kid’s a gamer.

I buy that all day long. At the end of the day, Hill has JAG measurables, but he's busted it to learn the offense and be a contributor. I think his 2016 DUI/2017 suspension was eye opening for him. He started turning the corner after that.

I think Ramsey's swag is starting to rub off on these guys too. You will always be YOUR best when YOU believe in YOURSELF. You know, I didn't care for Ramsey much when he was in Jax, because you always heard stories about how big of a dick he was. Seems like it's more manufactured that anything, based on what I see with his tenure in LA.

Troy Hill has been playing very well...I was hesitant on him starting post Aqib/Peters trade because Hill would flash but then get burned/turn into a defensive holding machine...glad i was wrong on this guy

I also think his better play is due to manning up. Peters (although I love Peters) kind of forced our defense out of its strength. It’s also kind of hard to call him inconsistent when the entire secondary has been inconsistent. Now that they seem to be in sync and playing to the teams strengths, look at what he’s doing.

He's gonna even out dudes. Hill is not an elite CB. And that's ok. He'll probably finish up somewhere in the middle which for him is going to be great.

Which is better than what most Rams fans believe he's capable of. I try not to be an "I told you so" kind of guy, but all offseason long I've been telling people Hill is a solid CB. Quite a few people wanted him cut in the offseason, which is a really bad take now.

Yep and I was one of them. Nobody bats a thousand and it won't be the last time folks are wrong about a player.

Good thing is when we're wrong about a guy not being able to play everyone wins.

Numbers look good but, they could be deceiving. Drops and bad throws can make percentages lower. He has made some good plays and I hope he keeps it up. I need to see more of Hill this year before I get really excited. Watching on TV is limited for evaluating a CB. Let's see how he does against the Cowgirls this week.

Overall Troy Hill has graded out really well during his tenure with the Rams. I actually think last year was his worst season with the Rams. He hasn't had a lot of playing time but when he has got playing time he has been more then admirable. Hill has tremendous instincts and ball skills and he plays bigger then his size. He's not afraid to hit anyone. I'm still perplexed why people are so down on this guy. The Rams brought him back for good reason.

I think Hill has always had the athletic measurables to make it in the NFL. CB is a hard position to play in the NFL because DB's face the most athletic players in the league. I think now that Troy has some confidence and knowing our other DB's are doing their jobs he's having to think less and it's showing up on tape.

For those of you that are still doubters, I think another good test will be this weekend. Gallup is a very good #2 WR and Dac often uses him as his security blanket. If Hill holds his own against him can we all agree Hill is a good #2 corner? lol is that too much to ask?

Certainly fair - hard to believe he isn't proven already to most. When I watch CB's, I'm really only looking at a few things. Of course, INT's are great, but they are a luxury. We should expect a CB to:

1. Stay in front of a WR
2. Be near the WR on most throws when in M2M coverage
3. Tackle immediately on throws made within zone coverage
4. Be willing to support the run

Hill is doing all of these things effectively right now.

Hill is an interesting case study for fandom. Most made up their mind about him and ignored his solid play because it fit the agenda of wanting to be right.

We have this thread right now - but if Hill gets torched on Sunday, which he very well could - people will be back to saying he's a "jag" and needs replaced.

He's earned enough credit IMO to be burned the rest of the season though, at least for me. I expect David Long to take over his starting roll next year, and while I'm a big fan of Hill, I think he's just going to be an average NFL starter. Still good - but Long can be an elite man CB IMO. But that makes Troy Hill the best number 4 CB in the NFL, and some Rams fans will call for him to be cut in the offseason.

Count me among those that underestimated Hill.

Honestly, I thought Hill was gonna be a mere placeholder after Talib left until Long got up to speed.

But Hill is playing really well. Well enough to keep the promising Long mostly off the field. A good ‘problem’ to have, huh? Two very affordable CB’s opposite Ramsey?

Hill is another guy who will be on an expiring contract next year along with Kupp, Everett, Johnson, Ebukam, and Reynolds.

That's why I think they could trade a few of them, like Ebukam and Everett, this offseason to gain some mid round picks now since they will not be able to keep them.

Is it just me or does anyone feel like there are always guys in the secondary that come out of nowhere and do well. It seems like street free agents or low draft picks show up and play well.

I don't have anything to back this up, it just feels like someone is always coming out of nowhere so to speak.
