I suspect Shula wants to attack more. And he and Aubrey probably weren't on the same page philosophically on at least some of that. Lake was undoubtedly more open to a shift.

Also I have to say that when you're a coach and tell McVay this group of corners has what you need for this season, and then the wheels fall off and they get fuckin BBQ'd, there is a loss of faith in your opinion. Naturally so. We can say the corners let Aubrey down. But we can also say Aubrey for whatever reason didn't jump on the table enough for more talent on the back end.

And I have that opinion because the Rams are good at going after what they think they need. They do what they have to do. So them going with that corner group last season was fucking strange. It's like they completely disregarded it. But maybe what happened is the defensive pass game coordinator talked the boys up and believed in them. Lesson learned for Aubrey if true and he'll bounce back from it.

They need one more corner. You can get that in this FA group, or you can get it with one of our first three picks. And after that, they need some depth pieces for camp competition, but those can be late round or UDFA or even cheap FA. So I expect we'll see one FA added at CB, question is do they go after a CB2 or depth.
I think you’re right about the new aggressive D we will go with. The coaching changes and now this (plus more). More blitzing. It makes me really want an iLB with speed who can blitz as well. Really hoping we use 61 for that.

I really like McDuffies run support too. We had too many times a RB taking it to the house.

Quite frankly I hope he takes quite a few snaps in the slot and Lake replaces Curl at safety.

I liked Lake there vs. some TEs and big slots, but not when teams moved an actual stud WR there.

Add a healthy Jermod McCoy at #13 and then that defense might be cooking with grease.
If they could get a healthy McCoy at 13 this defense would be top 3 for sure. But damn that selection would scare me.

What I like better is us sliding down and adding another pick. Because after a slide down we hit that early window of that next tier of corners, and also there are some real nice Edges. And they can continue loading this defense.

Just gotta hope we get a good move down offer.

I would LOVE to have one of those running backs...

100%. Lake did a good job overall, but he can't cover quicker slot WRs. Maybe that is one thing they want to change.

I still like Dean as a FA add. But if not, I’d seriously consider Samuel as a lesser cost add.

I'm disappointed. We overpaid. #29 for McDuffie straight up felt iffy but fair enough to me. Throwing in all the additional picks does not sit well with me. But I guess the good news is we addressed a major need.
I dunno. I think he's worth a low first round pick. Odds are we aren't gonna find a blue chip NFL caliber player with the 5th and 6th round picks. And very late in those rounds. The 3rd we gave up will likely be in the 90's. And it could possibly be offset if Scheelhaase gets promoted somewhere. OC's under McVay stand a good chance of getting promoted.

They for sure need another corner. The question is about quality. I suspect they're now going after the depth/development type in the draft and something cheap in FA.
