Tom Brady says the NFL is mediocre. Rodgers agrees.

Other than everyone in the league calling the change the "Tom Brady" rule?

.

Again, he's not the one who changes the rule. Just because the NFL wanted to protect their golden boy doesn't mean he had anything to do with it. It's the reality of what's happened.

We are not saying he changed the rule. We are saying the rules were changed because of him.

He had everything to do with it. The league chose him to be the poster boy of the nfl. The all American boy. The player they were going to canonise. The player they could make countless nfl films about till the end of time.

And they changed the game for him to be that guy. And bent the rules for him to be that guy. And told the refs to hold his hand his whole career so he could win and be that guy.

It's no coincidence that once he moved to the bucs the cheats stopped getting the calls and the bucs got all the calls.

Fuck him.

The rules changed because the NFL wanted QBs to not get hurt. They realized people watch the game because QBs are the catalyst to score points. Most fans hate defensive battles because they're boring to the laymen. Brady was just a bystander, if it wasn't him it would have been Manning or someone else.

Hyperbole.

He was saying IMHO they don't practice like they used to and it shows. As a point that matters really. How many good qbs are there really? After that how many good backups. Plus the salaries are insane.

Tommy is right about one thing. There is no development but I don't blame the rules or the CBA that Rich Eisen says.

Teams aren't allowed the luxury of developing because of the pressure to win now otherwise the GM and/or HC knows they'll get canned. So when the new guard comes in and turns over the staff and roster they are starting again, and unless they start instantly winning the cycle goes on.

And the pressure to win not only comes from ownership but local media and fans alike. Which is ironic bc all we hear is draft and development from Feb -April. You want development but don't have the patience for the latter.

But Tommy is wrong about players. What about Aaron Donald, TJ Watt, Micah Parsons, Sauce Gardner, and Roquan Smith? Just because none of them give overly cringe speeches or girate like Ray Lewis doesn't mean they are superstar or generation players.

Except that the rules now severely limit the practice teams used to be able to have in order to develop as a team and to develop young players.

Sorry. That’s not selling on this forum. Brady is the most accomplished QB (not the Greatest) in NFL history but he’s still a whiny little bitch.

I fear you are projecting your own feelings onto the matter. I despise Brady just as much as the next but I guess I just look at it logically. Happy thanksgiving

Is it really THAT much different tho? The only big things i recall changing are no more two-a-days in training camp and in the past couple years having 3 preseason games.

In all the time ive been following NFL its always been virtually the same. And i dont think reducing practices in May is gonna be a huge hindrance come September.

Personally i think if you're good, you're good and if you suck you suck. They'res plenty of good players right now, and a few generational. Teams dont get the time to develop them tho b/c of the pressure to win. I guess thats my point...you cant have it both ways (pound the table for d &d but scream for coaches and GMs to get fired in December when they aren't winning.

When I was growing up, I believe there were 6 preseason games and a 14 game season. The big money NFLers get now wasn't there for most. They had to work other jobs in the offseason and came into camp out of shape. They were not hyperactively focused upon by medical and training staff for peak performance. If current players come into camp out of shape, there is little patience for it and they are often ejected from the league as slackers. No more North Dallas 40 teams in today's NFL.

Players spend more money and time on their own in off-seasons to get their body's right than ever.. and have more ways to access information and learn football than ever before.

Football is a game. People are constantly learning more about the game and data and computers are helping them learn even more.

The game is different and will keep evolving/changing because people learn and build.

There used to be more voluntary/not voluntary offseason programs. That was stopped. Also players could be around the facilities all year with no control. So if a team told a player that he ‘should’ be there, the player was.

The bodyweight crush on the QB penalty has been enforced more after the 2017 Rodgers injury. Hitting the QB low was more enforced after a Brady low hit. May have been 2008, but feels kinda like a later season w/Pats.

QBs with the most RTP penalties 2009-2022:

57 Matt Ryan
52 Ryan Fitzpatrick
42 Russell Wilson
41 Aaron Rodgers
41 Ryan Tannehill
41 Matthew Stafford
40 Kirk Cousins
35 Cam Newton
35 Tom Brady
32 Drew Brees
30 Ben Roethlisberger
30 Carson Wentz
30 Jay Cutler
30 Josh Allen
30 Jared Goff

Though it doesn't differentiate the ticky-tack calls, which I'm sure Brady received more of than anyone. It also doesn't include the ones that should've been called but were missed. Hmmm... Stafford, Goff, we've seen some of those non-calls.

Owners also don’t want to pay players while they develop, owners are almost guaranteed to make tens of millions every year but they refuse to expand the rosters when it absolutely would improve the depth and continuity of teams. The nba has at least tried to create ways for teams to keep their stars, don’t know how well it works but they try.
