Garrett took him to the ground when he didn't need to do so late in a game that was over. It was likely an illegal play. Rudolph got pissy and started trying to rip Garrett's helmet off. Instead, Garrett ripped his helmet off. While Garrett was ripping his helmet off, Rudolph kicked him in the balls. At that point, DeCastro intervened and escorted Garrett away. Rudolph got up, charged Garrett, and tried to continue the confrontation. Garrett hit Rudolph on the head with his own helmet. Then, all hell broke loose.

Would you say that Garrett's takedown deserved a reaction from Rudolph? Not necessarily a kick in the nuts but some kind of retaliation?

we need to see more of it. brave wimps standing behind the rules thinking they can attack bigger opponents getting their arse whipped. would have been better if decastro wasn't in the way.

Garret was just playing.. he didn't know rudoplh had thrown the ball. He had thought he had sacked him. Rudoplh spazes out and started ripping at Garrets helmet.

I think it was dangerous and stupid what Garret did. But I think it's over blown. Someone half ass swinging a helmet at a guy while being held by two people to me isn't 1/10th of dangerous as the shit I see that happens to Brandon Cooks every week.

Yeah i saw the full vid and commented in the other thread. I had only seen the action post-takedown this morning.

I think it happens often. Beyond the QB whining for a flag, you don't typically see anything. Now, Rudolph had played like crap, so he probably was already angry at himself. I wouldn't have held it against him if he were pissed off about the hit. But I'm also not going to treat him like an innocent victim when he started the physical altercation and then charged in when DeCastro and Garrett were walking away. Things were deescalating. Rudolph is the one who reengaged. That doesn't excuse what Garrett did, but it does mean that Rudolph isn't innocent.

Garret didn't know the ball was out. Check the video, even the announcer didn't see it come out.

you really thought goff fumble was a good call. his hand had clearly started forward. plus the pit td to me looked like his but was down out of bounds before second foot taped in bounds. oh well might be my bias but that the way I saw them.

It was close but I thought it was incomplete.
I actually thought he was out of bounds on the TD also but again, being very close, it wouldn’t be reversed.

A jury wouldn't convict. It's a waste of time and money and a grossly disproportionate charge for a football fight. Rudolph tried to rip Garrett's helmet off, kicked him in the crotch, and then charged at him again when the situation was starting to deescalate.

Nobody is defending what Garrett did, but it doesn't mean it needs to be handled in the criminal justice system. Had Rudolph been seriously injured, it would be a different situation. But he wasn't. This is an overreaction.

And I explained why I disagree. We shouldn't be charging people to make a statement. We should be charging people because they committed a crime and we believe we can convict them. Charging somebody whom we can't convict to send a message is an abuse of the criminal justice system.

I agree. Again. I didn’t use the language of “sending a message”. Maybe you are responding to another post.

As egregious and stupid as it was, on reflection, I may agree with you about charging him. Mostly because of the precedent it would set.
