What people forget their first round pick WR is on a 6 game suspension for gambling. Goff was basically having the force feed St Brown like Stafford had to lean on Kupp in the SB. Great win for the Lions one that can setup their season. Goff is the poster boy for what happens when you play to your players strength instead of trying to force him to play to a scheme he doesn't fit.

SCHEME FIT

Goff has blossomed into the QB everyone thought he could be. Goff takes what is given, Stafford is a gunslinger. Gunslingers are feast or famine, i.e. big play or INT. Goff is a move the chains QB take deep strikes if it's there. McVay's offensive philosophy is to force the defense to defend the entire field. This works great when you are on your side of the 50, but suddenly it stalls in the red zone. Goff's red zone offense isn't a whole lot different than anywhere else on the field. Both work with the right QB.

I'm happy for the Lions and it shows they are indeed a playoff caliber team. Next year Holmes will be drafting a WR in the first round. It also shows that with good coaching even young inexperienced players in the secondary can play well. We will see how good or not the Rams coaching staff is. Like I've posted previously, IMO this year the Ram's success will be in direct correlation to the quality of their coaching staff.

You know half of Detroit is drunk right now.

Mellisa Stark: you came in and beat the Champs at Arrowhead. What does that mean?

Goff: It means we are 1-0.

Lol

Travis Kelce was the head cheerleader! Ha! TV cameras zooming in on him celebrating a first down like they won the Superbowl.

Lions secondary is improved.

They look like a 10 win team.
yeah... improved beyond recognition. They have guys now who can really play. They stopped Mahomes in the second half to win the game.

What struck me was how physically and mentally tough the Lions were on the road in the loudest stadium in the league against the champs. They wore the Chiefs down on both sides of the ball in the second half.

You could see how badly the noise was affecting the timing on the o-line, taking the edge off all the plays, but they hung in there. They drove and ran the ball in for the winning TD. Goff made plays and never blinked at the pressure or miscues around him.

Lions are going to be a threat against anyone and a real menace playing at home.

Goff was a complete class act when asked for comment after the Rams' last SB win.

If the Rams were to be eliminated this year, I'd be all-in for Goff and the Lions to win it all.

I wish the Lions well. The Rams won SB 56 so that Stafford trade was worth it for the Rams but it's looking like this will be win win for the Lions also. Not sure if they will win the SB, but I sure would rather have them win than the whiners.

I listened to the Lions broadcast on Sirius as I was driving the entire game. They mentioned a few times how many Lions fans showed up and showed out for this game. Don't see much of that at Arrowhead, so good for those Lions and their fans.

Apparently Goff made his way around the field high fiving the fans after the game.

.

This game showed that Goff is getting recognition as being a good qb. He was actually part of the adverts before the game for a change. Never happened when he was with the Rams.

Moving away from McVay's shadow has done him the world of good. He's the guy.

Mcvay will always be the guy wherever he coaches. Just shows how dominant Stafford was in the superbowl run that anyone was talking about him at all.

It's good to see Goff settle in with his no turnover streak, continuing from last year.

He really showed his strengths and limitations in this game.

Strengths - Standing strong with poise in the pocket, getting through reads quickly, delivering accurate balls.

Limitations - Unable to extend plays much, unable to manipulate the defense, unable to see the open lane for a 2 yard first down.

With a top offensive line and commitment to protecting the ball, he really is a QB you can win with and build around.

There aren't too many QB's as good with play action. He really excels when he can set his feet and throw a dime 20-30 yards down the field. The Lions might have their identity with pounding with Montgomery then PA off that.

But the Lions really need to get Gibbs going the way the Rams used Gurley in the pass game. The Oline is really solid to grind and pound the rock but their offense lacks a bit of creativity and is a little predictable.

Fascinating. And that's why Mcvay wanted Stafford. Goff wasn't there yet.

The hope is that goff gets there. It was always frustrating seeing wrs wide open downfield and goff ignoring them because he's just running the play that was called. We hoped he would eventually play what he sees. Obviously it didn't happen fast enough for Mcvay.

This is a flaw that goff has to fix if he wants to play with the big boys.

I believe both Goff as QB and Ben Johnson as playcaller are significantly better than they may have appeared in this game at Arrowhead, a notoriously loud (or maybe loudest) football venue. But they won anyway.

Imo the Lions O was greatly affected by having to use an essentially silent count in the first game of the season. This is a lot to ask when the starting O never once played together in a preseason game. Not surprisingly, a silent count was a challenge, giving the D a headstart on the rush and limiting the playcalling.

I expect to see a much more aggressive and nuanced offense going forward and in almost any other setting. And to see much more from Gibbs-- after all it was his first game. The Lions will not just pound the football. And Goff is still the most underrated player in the NFl.
