Pittsburgh Maulers beat Michigan Panthers for spot in USFL Championship

The USFL playoffs began on Saturday night in Canton. The game went down to the wire, and then some.

After a Michigan Panthers field goal forced overtime, the Pittsburgh Maulers won in the USFL’s unconventional (but intriguing) extra session, by converting a pair of two-point conversions and stifling the Panthers three times.

The Maulers won the game, 31-27.

Long-time NFL assistant Ray Horton led Pittsburgh to the title game.

The New Orleans Breakers will face the Birmingham Stallion on Sunday for the other spot in next weekend’s championship, which also will be played in Canton.

The Maulers and Panthers both qualified for the postseason last weekend, making it to the playoffs with 4-6 records. Birmingham and New Orleans were the only two USFL teams that finished above .500 this season.

The top two place kickers in the USFL are with the Breakers and Stallions… if the Rams are scouting them.

Blewitt made a 59-yarder last night for the Maulers, but then also missed a 28-yarder earlier in the game...

The Pittsburgh v. Michigan game was awesome. Wish E.J. Perry pulled it out for the Panthers. He almost did. Kid was a fun watch the last couple weeks!

Was going for Michigan, too. Looked like Perry was gonna pull another Perez/Renegades storyline.

How is it mathematically possible for only two teams to finish with an above .500 record? Sounds like luck plays a big part in this league.

Those two teams were in the North division. They got beat up in games against the South division.

He's talking about the Stallions and the Breakers in the South who were the only teams to finish above .500.

Here's a comparison of this year's XFL and USFL regular season standings:

Well, Mr. McGough, the Tom Brady of the USFL, got his second championship.

What do we got, two months for the Rams to fire back up?

It was great to see 3 of my guys from the great LA City Champion Narbonne Gaucho teams playing in the championship game for Pittsburgh. Troy Williams, Tre Walker, and Boogie Roberts. They came up short, but its great to see them still playing football.
