I think it's a good question. They may still trade Everette or Hav etc for futures or another position. Offseason moves may not be over yet.

Btw this kid would backup Everette if we keep 4, giving us 2 deep at each role. I would hope teams factors in if that happens, though, where he is carrying his weight.

I hope if they made a decision to trade either that they'd wait until the trade deadline. Either of those moves could blow up in their faces.

Havenstein was a good ORT two years ago. Sure he had some limitations but he wasn’t really a problem. His play last year would likely push his trade value way down. Never sell low unless you have no choice.

What’s nice about Everett is that he is a threat whenever he is on the field and he can hurt defenses. Even if he’s not being targeted he presents a problem. However in a contract year and injury concerns, I could see him being a more tradeable player, especially if Hopkins flashes potential.

I'm thinking the Pats could use a TE like Everett.

Actually, they could better use a guy like Higbee, but I would hate to see Higbee traded and it would sting even more if he went to the cheatriots.

I have always been a big Higbee fan and was one who really wanted the Rams to draft him. I think we could've been seeing "this Higbee" sooner if the staff incorporated him more into the offense earlier.

Back to your point, Everett might welcome a trade. He has a solid NFL career in front of him but not as long as he's a Ram. Not only does he have Higbee in front of him, but the WR corp is above average and stacked. He's just not gonna get the type of opportunity Higbee finally did.

Everett has a perfect opportunity to play well for us this year and then go test the FA market.

Higbee turned out to be a good long-term signing. And the drafted rookie TE will be able to replace Everett's numbers after a year of NFL work.

Hopkins is not ready for a full-time tight end role. His blocking and will for blocking desperately needs to improve. As a receiver, he's solid, but he's had drop problems.

If we could get a high draft pick for Everett if Hopkins progresses throughout the season, great. But until then, I'd keep Everett and - perhaps - Mundt or Blanton. Preferably Blanton; I think he's a better blocker than Mundt, to be honest, and I gotta rep my Mizzou players on the Rams, right? and because he still has an ERFA contract while Mundt, I believe, is a free agent or restricted free agent after this year.

But yeah, Higbee's the starter, and Everett won't be on the team next year. Hopkins could be used in certain pass-sets, but he's not ready for running downs. At all.

Everett is a free agent next year and while he has shown glimpses he's been somewhat injured and really hasn't put it all together. This IMO is insurance if somebody offers him a huge payday next year. We can keep him on the cheap but I'd suspect after this season the TE room changes.

Good answer, but your missing a big piece of the Post.

The Dilemma part of it is Johnny Mundt & the draft pick.

Your right, but to also upgrade the position with a player on the draft
board is always going to be worth it.

It’s called competition. Granted I was Mainly against wasting a draft pick on the Offensive Line. Go back to Last Training Camp & Mcvay F”D up HUGE!!
Now it is a blessing Ram fans didn’t see like myself.

Mcvay has to be true to himself & let players earn there spots. Johnny Mundt was undrafted & excellent coaching and view of a player.

Your answer was perfect, add Blanton to the Dilemma

perfect addition to the dilemma.

Blanton improves a lot last season. In training camp he didn’t look good at times.

The only reason Everett won’t be back next season IMHO!!

Everett will cost to much & I believe will be a big part of The Rams making a Playoff & Super Bowl run. He should even improve more next season, especially after watching Higbee breakout.

Everett will cost too much. And yeah, Hopkins could definitely flash as a receiving threat. I think he needs to improve blocking, like I said. So a guy like Blanton, a bigger player than Mundt, at 6'4", 260 lbs., could definitely thrive as a blocker, and he was a decent receiver in the preseason.

So I'd still put Higbee and Everett in the 12 formation, with Blanton in 13.

Hopkins could go into the slot for obvious passing downs for now, but personally, I think he needs to be completely rewired in his blocking; like I mentioned in his own thread, I felt that he was as soft as a baby sea otter's ass. He needs to become like Higbee: a fucking wolverine in all stages of the game.

well even Tyler Higbee went through his growing pains. Pound for pound Gerald Everett has done a good job blocking. Mundt improved his game, but I believe the injury to Everett held The Rams back a little. Then again talk about a coming out party as a receiver with Higbee.
Higbee used to get blown up his rookie season, especially for a guy his size.

—Kromer does a good job with the TE’s with refining there blocking skills. Will see how Phillips does with the TE’s again in 2020. The Rams must have liked the upside of Hopkins.
