Mundt has spent more time on the PS than he has with The Rams. It's typical churn and burn stuff. Worrying about who is going to be the 3rd TE shows how far we come

Exactly, same as WR gone are the days of Brandon Gibson, Kevin Curtis and Donnie Avery,Keenan Burton etc...

Agreed and that's why I observed we might not be done. Would not surprise me if they were to move Everette for a position they are not as confident about.

Higbee may have a breakout year and Everett shows brief flashes of greatness. Johnny Mundt is a survivor. Back to HigBeast, I am hoping he shows the Rams what an elte TE looks like, because the franchise has never really had one, with Pete Houlihan being the closest to that in a different era.

I can't see Hopkins being in the 2 TE sets as much of a threat to block and be ready with the playbook. Mundt is limited as a pass-catcher but, is great at blocking. Higbee is the #1 TE. Everett is still a miss match, knows the playbook and is a good blocker. I guess the Rams could trade him but, that takes away the second-best all-around TE on the roster.

The Rams will keep the 4 TEs on the roster. I have no idea how much they will use the 12P set but, without Everett, it would limit the play calling when they do.

They will probably keep four regardless. Although I like the pick (initially questioned it based on need perhaps), I don't expect much in his first year. TEs seem to take time to adjust to the NFL and we have one blossoming and one potential star in front of him (TH and GE respectively). A wealth of riches in this position group is no a dilemma. I have high expectations from McVay and the TE group this year.

Agree that they keep 4 this year. The rookie doesn’t play much, if any, this year. He’s a 2021 play. Zero chance Everett & Higbee are both on the roster next year - with Everett by far the likely one gone of the two.

Everett isn’t going anywhere. He will be part of the offense and hopefully ball out and bring the Rams a 4th round come pick in 2022. Then the investment in Hopkins comes back to the team and They have a 2nd cheap TE that will be experienced and ready to step up.

I have little doubt that the Rams will keep 4 TEs on the roster.

But, Gerald Everett biggest problem is that Higbee is a better blocker, injury, and Cooper Kupp / McVay.

Hopefully, the usage of 11 personnel gets cut almost in half and Kupp proves he can be just as effective outside of the slot. Otherwise, Hopkins will probably have a similiar issue.

This is exactly where my head is with Everett. (y)

I am really excited to see him in 2020.

Yeah man. Its like, he's on the cusp of being a huge contributor. Its easy to see and understand why McSnead really liked him going into the draft. Ill keep my patience a bit longer and see how he progresses. But again, its easily Higbee's job to lose as we all are very well aware of.

Im pullin' for him. Pumped to see Hekker throw the ball this season :sneaky:

It will be interesting because they probably drafted him hoping he can make their choice in not having to sign Everett to 7 or 8 mil a year an easy one. Howeverr,, in order to do that he will have to get enough opportunities and they'll also have to fix that little problem of him taking his eyes off the ball early.

An Everett contract would put alot of cap into the position so I doubt he and higbee will be teammates in 2121.

If he and higbee both have good years maybe they keep Everett and trade higbee so they can get a draft pick.

This is a logical and agreeable response for sure. Unless Higbee falls off in dramatic fashion this season (however that looks), I doubt that the Rams would be looking to trade him regardless of how Everett performs. Im with you in the sense of not loading a lot of cap into the TE position, but knowing McVay's experience with TEs, I'd be in full support of whatever they decide to do.

Everett does have a slight tendency to turn upfield before receiving the ball. If im being too kind with the word "slight", please let me know. But his athleticism has some serious explosion; especially going in and out of his cuts. Hes a mismatch nightmare more so than Higbee IMO. But consistency always wins... (i.e. the Patriots - sorry, I had too) and where there is consistency, there is opportunity.. simple.

I do like that with Hopkins and Jefferson the Rams selected great route runners. Everett has made some huge catches in his time as a Ram, but Higbee has just mastered system. The Premium is on these route running heady technicians and Goff just owns with these types in my opinion. We are at the point with our contracts where like with the Quarantine, if you are not essential, you have to go home. Hopkins appears to be Everett's replacement.

I personally wonder if Everett, and to a lesser extent Reynolds, have met McVay's expectations as complete players. It would be interesting to know the inside scoop on McVay's analysis of these guys in terms of route running, mental adjustments, blocking, fit in his system etc. Maybe the Rams drafted another TE and WR for unrelated reasons, but somehow I doubt it. There are many other positions that posters, for good reason, thought could or should have been higher priorities.

Yeah unless he out performs higbee significantly or they cant get hopkins to break his habit of turning upfield before he's secured the ball, Everett will likely be the odd man out.

Hopkins knows how to get open, has speed, vision, and moves for YAC, and once mcvay fixes his coachable flaw of heading downfield without the ball, I think he'll give kittle a run for his money.

Wait, no one mentioned the really important story from the OP. He became a fan in 2006??????????
And he's still around!!!!
WOW, now that's some loyalty......... or is he a masochist??

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Welcome aboard, glad to have you. I hope your next 45 years as a fan aren't as painful as mine have been. (wouldn't trade it for the world)

I look forward to the TE competition this year. I think it's going to be difficult to even move Mundt off the 52, but I would love one of the new guys to show up and do just that. We need some energy and new blood in that group.

Everett brings the speed, YAC and explosion that Higs and the other TE's just don't have. The rook looks like a Higbee clone who's going to need some time. Contract crystal ball's aside, there's no reason to move on from him any time soon.

I'd prefer to see more 2TE/2WR sets with Kupp, Woods, Higs and Everett this season anyway. If Van Jefferson looks like a viable depth guy you can comfortably move JRey mid-season or let him walk next year.

I'd rather pay and keep a 2nd TE than a 3rd WR in our situation. JRey has been valuable as a #3 and #4 guy but now(very soon) Jefferson steps in there. It took Higs 4 years to look like a quality starter and if he goes down? Everett is too valuable as a #2 AND a starter. It's too soon to start looking beyond what he brings to the table in the next 2-4 years IMO.

This thought has crossed my mind. You don’t “hear much about Everett” from the Rams. Higbee, seems to be more pals with everyone. Stuff like that. Dunno.

Lol, no, I don't.

Biggest plays of the Rams 2018 season were made by Gerald Everett (TD against the Chiefs, 3rd down catch against the Saints in the NFCCG).

His RAC ability is ELITE for a TE.

His "lack" of production comes only because of a lack of opportunities. Snead said that the Hopkins pick was an instance of BPA for them, and even though I think Everett has the potential to be one of the best receiving TEs in the NFL, Higbee is the better option because he can block - which likely means we will not retain Everett after this season.

But for this year? Let's allow Goff to have the best set of weapons in the NFL. IF they decide to keep 3, Mundt is gone. But IMO they will keep 4 and run 2 and 3 TE sets more often.
