I am interested to see if McVay continues with the 3 TE sets.
Hes had good success with it.
Given Shanny is great at scheming TEs open I wouldn't be surprised to see Shanny steal that look.....although they kind of run that already just with their super irritating FB.
Shanny has been using 13 and 22 sets way before McVay this year. I actually thought McVays use of 13 was him finally copying Shanahan.
We’ve had some success with it but the 9ers are way better at executing plays from those formations. I saw a few run plays where we ran towards the 3 TE bunch and either a TE missed a block or the RB didn’t know how a defender was going to be blocked and ran right into him.

Don't be shocked if it happens this weekend. For some reason the Rams have this blind spot when it comes to defending the whiners. They stopped CMC from running wild, but they allowed him to pick up crucial yards and first downs by allowing him an unguarded release out of the backfield at times.

Being that he's at least half of their offense, he needs to be accounted for on every play. The Texans took him away.

I hope Shula is on it this time.

And I never take the whiners game for granted, somehow the F-N breaks always seems to go their way. Fumbles bounce right back to them, batted balls get intercepted if Stafford throws them but falls to the ground if Jones or Purdy throws them. Phantom early whistles prevent us from a fumble return TD. Face mask penalties get missed when it's on the whiners, or punching someone in the head. That and unless our FG team is fixed, that could haunt us in a tight game again.

On the bright side, McVay has started to allow Stafford to throw for scores and our red zone efficiency has been better.

Losing this weekend would be beyond devastating.
Spot on. Easier said than done, but what Houston did to the 49ers is the script. They held them to under 20 points and scored close to 30 points (which included 4/4 on field goals - all relatively short).
And they did it by focusing on McCaffrey who only had 8 carries for 25 yards & 3 receptions for 43 yards. I know the Rams are looking hard at that film. The question is, can they replicate it?

I know Shanny uses multiple sets using multiple TEs or two TE and the FB. Didn't really pay much attention to how much he run a 3 TE set.
I have paid enough attention to know that the Whiner TEs would still be getting open when Kittle went down. Hes very good at scheming up those plays.
We saw success in the passing game with it.
Interesting.

I like to read opponent's message boards before a game to get a feel for the fans think and what they know. For the most part 49er fans are not confident in this one. They usually pretty cocky about upcoming games. Not so much this time. The one thing that gives them hope is what happened last time we met them. If we don't make mistakes I think we we win easily.

I have to hear it from my 49ers pals that come over to watch the game, and 49er fans at work, and all the 49er fans that take over SoFi. The last thing I want to do is register on a 49ers message board to read more of 49er bullshit..... But that's just me.

Yeah he’s good at mixing it up. Sometimes it’s 2 TEs with a FB (Jusczyk) lined up at the LOS, sometimes it’s 3 TEs, sometimes it’s extra linemen in a jumbo set.

We don’t have a fullback so it’s 3 TEs only for us. Maybe McVay will start using McClendon as an extra lineman in select packages.

If I am McVay, I keep using large doses of 13 until someone stops it. I think 12 and 13 not only gives us the most versatility it also puts our best 11 on the field.

You put Lake or other DB on him every play. No matter how they line up or motion, no matter if we are man or zone, no matter if he stays in and blocks, someone has to stay with him. Communicate who has him. No fuck ups. Pull a patriots and hold him coming out of the backfield. whatever it takes.

He also uses Puka like a TE a lot as well.

Spot on. I just don't get it sometimes. CMC is often unguarded out of the backfield as if the defense thinks he won't catch the ball when that is the play call. It happens all too often when the Rams play the whiners.. Last game they bottled up his rushing, but he torched the Rams out of the backfield or on wheel routes.

Yeah, taking away CMC means some other players will be one on one but CMC is their bread and butter and the QB's security blanket.

The Texans knew how to defend CMC because their head coach was the DC for the whiners at one time. The Rams need to pay attention to the film. You take away CMC and Bourne and Jones will likely have to hold the ball and get sacked more often.

I don't have to register to read their comments. I read other teams comments before we have a game with them to get a feel for what their team is about. I especially like to read the 49er board after they lose. One week its the delusional "We're unbeatable!" To the sky is falling the next week. They crack me up. They also have a Giants thread. The Dodgers winning put them in a real depressed mood knowing they can't compete with us. :laugh3:

I get it...

I just don't relish in others pain, especially after watching the most stressful world series ever, and watching that last 49ers game, I certainty don't want anyone poking at me.... well at least people I don't know.

In honor of Whiner week I'm glad Rams posted this highlight. Still my favorite game I've ever gone to watch in person. Bruce crying on the bench after his third touchdown (1:05 in video) was ALL Rams fans letting out the emotion of the moment, he was placed on jumbotron and the whole stadium started chanting BRUUUUUUUUUCE. I still get chills thinking of this game.

You have 49er pals?
Happens to the best of us...had a good friend in SoCal back in the 90s who was a die-hard Niner fan having grown up in NorCal. He was cool about it though where other were not always.

My favorite-not-favorite though was an old roommate who walks in on me watching a Rams pre-season game in 1991 who asks me if I'm a Ram fan and when I answer "Yes," says simply, "What's that like?"
