I just want to say, in what world does Everett command 10m? Lol. That dude aint shit. How many years do you give a guy before you call it what it is? He simply can't get the job done. Higbee is far better at this point. Everett may not be here next year after drafting Hopkins.

Gee. I'd say that the real reason Jefferson was selected is because he's a good WR necessary for McVay's 11 personnel package. He has the potential to play all of the spots in case someone goes down or needs to rest for a play or two.

I've never heard of a team thinking 2 seasons out on a WR selection. The supply far exceeds the demand. In fact, next years draft class looks to have yet another bumper crop of wideouts. QB? Sure. WR? No. Not with such a high selection.

Free agents are vastly overpaid during the first portion of the free agency period. One strong season and it's possible.

However, Everett is a very good player who is underutilized because Higbee is a better blocker and Cooper Kupp mans the slot the majority of the time in the overuse of the 11 personnel package. Higbee was underutilized and not thought as highly until last season, too. But, now look at him when given an opportunity to be an asset in the passing game.

Anything is possible, it was a very common thought in mocks this offseason that Woods would be traded. Turned out to be Cooks but next year anything is possible. As for Everett potential is all well and good but if you don't realize it on the field on a regular basis it's a waste and he's yet to realize that potential more than occasionally. Back to Jefferson though the real reason IMO he was drafted is he's a prototypical McVay WR nothing more. People think we can't have 3 of the same type guy at WR, hell I was one of them before the draft, but if you tell me we can have 3 guys get 75 catches 1000 yards and 8+ TD's and they're all similar and the defense can't key on any one of them along with 2 explosive backs and Higbee I'm all in chips in the middle of the table. Don't see why this is a problem in some threads.

I think you're right actually. I had the same thought. Woods will be 30-32 by the end of guys contract. If you've seen enough from Jefferson these next two years there's really no reason to give Woods what will be a 10-12 million dollar contract.

It's ironic that you could literally just swap out Everett's name for higbee and the sentence would make sense to people 2 years ago. Now he has the best tight end season in Rams history lol.

Everett was doing fine before the injury and if Trey Burton got paid...

You got me on that Burton move. Lol how regretful they were! Lol. I know this board is full of people high on Everett. I just dont know why. You talk about two years ago, we were waiting on Higbee. I agree, and Everett still couldn't beat him out. I think something clicked for Higbee and we have officially found our guy. But Hopkins speaks volumes on their opinion of Everett I think. We will see. I hope I'm wrong and he becomes a beast. But I dont think i am.

It took Higbee over 3.5 seasons for it to "click". Everett has been more productive in his 3 years as a TE2 than Higbee has as a TE1. Higbee is definitely a better blocker but Everett has improved considerably. Closing the book on Everett is premature. Do I think his play warrants 10mil? No but strange things happen in FA.

And I remember most people on this board stating - throw to the TE - he is open

And then McVay changes his offense in Week 11 and Higbee has the best Ram TE season in history

I think McVay should visit this board once in awhile.

Yes I agree that some of the lack of production from the TE position is due to the lack of targets.

It started before that though. Everett put up 136 against SEA, and was targeted a lot against ATL and PIT. The change to more "12" personnel started in CHI.

Kupp & Woods are great examples of current Goff type of WR's that work well for his talents & this new OL. Both have greatly exceeded the output projections of all the NFL insiders when they arrived here in LA. Why would you not make great efforts to get Goff another Kupp/Woods clone to add to that mix? Simple as that! Under no circumstance do you plan for a Wood's departure from this team!

As far as Gerald Everett(GE) ....McVay needed to have a better overall plan to blend him into the 2019 offense. I would have hoped that McVay finally realized what he has in GE & created a plan to maximize this great talent yet to be unleashed. Whats needed from GE ...is for him to greatly improve on his playing availability from week to week, that's on GE:hope::cautious:.

GE is a different type of TE (truly odd mixer of TE/HB/RB/SL) .McVay has seen & coached this previously ...can we say Jordan Reed. I happen to believe that GE can be much better offensive weapon than Jordan was before the injuries began to take its toll on him in Washington. :hush:

A lot of that was on Goff. Being locked on to Kupp so much, he wasn't even looking at the TE. For example, on that big play Kupp got against the Bengals because the defender fell down, Higbee was wide open down the seam as I recall.

Woody is not happy with his contract IMO. So that bears watching. That may force the Rams hands.

Moving forward we may see a restacking of the wideouts when they pay Kupp. They will make room for him assuming he plays a full season in 2020. That might include moving Woody and replacing him via the draft.

Van's ideal spot is Z either way. But he has a long way to go and a lot to prove to force the Rams' hands.

I have not seen that Merlin. I was under the impression Woods was very happy in LA as a Ram. Woods was born in CA & went to school in CA including college. Woods is our highest paid WR now.

I keep seeing the 27 yr old Kupp's calculated Market value projections $19 .4 million annually for 2021 & on . Rams will approx pay Woods $8 million this season. IMO Rams should be amble to retain both 25 yr old TE Everett & 28 yr old Woods for the future at just a little over $20 million a year. Cost just for one Kupp.

IMO I would take both Woods & Everett over Kupp.

Yeah I must have missed the reports or comments from him saying Woods was unhappy. Would he want to be paid more? I think that describes every person ever.

I have a hard time seeing the Rams letting Woods get away, unless his salary demands are just exorbitant. Woods checks all the boxes, IMO. Smart teams don’t let such players get away.

Same thing with Kupp. He’s a virtual certainty to be extended for 5 years.

I see Woods, Kupp, and Jefferson as our 11 set trio for years to come.

You want potential cap casualties? Everett and JJ seem far more likely to me. Floyd needs a helluva year if he wants to be here in ‘21, too.

Woody has never made a big deal of it that I know of. This is my opinion.

His contract is extremely team friendly. He did acknowledge the team friendly nature of his deal back when the Rams rolled some extra money to him and made a comment that it was coming can't remember his exact words but I recall translating it as the Rams would take care of him down the road.

I am simply putting the logic together and seeing that he's probably not happy with what he's being paid. I wouldn't be, given how important he is to the offense. But the problem here is that the Rams have a lot of big contracts still to hand out. And they got burned with some overpays and like with Gurley where I think they tried to be a good organization and reward the player and it blew up in their face. So I anticipate Woody's contract becoming a problem.

I've mentioned this multiple times in relation to suggestions we trade Woody. That I don't see the Rams trading him UNLESS he is letting them know behind the scenes that he is unhappy with his pay. And I still feel that way. If he grossly outperforms his contract again in 2020 it just increases the likelihood of that coming to a head.
