Solid? Did the Rams trade up for a punt returner? He wasn't solid in anything but that. But, I guess he did more than awoke of these other guys that people mentioned.

The traded up for an offensive player. They got production. The PR skills were gravy.

Lawrence Phillips. He made Dick Vermeil cry. Which, come to think of it, wasn’t so unusual.

There were plenty of poop sandwich Rams draft picks over the years. Top 5 Poop Sandwich Ram Picks:
1) Jason Smith (Smack Dab in the middle of a 6-42 stretch
2) Greg Robinson (They knew he was a bust in training camp)
3) Lawrence Phillips (Giving up Bettis and taking this guy was fantastic )
4-T) Adam Carriker/Jimmy Kennedy(Mike Martz had an eye for talent)
5) Tye Hill (he didn’t know how to play corner)

Very painful topics. Donnie Avery (always injured), Hill (couldn't back pedal or turn to the ball to save his life), TA (never read a playbook or really practiced), GRob (spent more time memorizing rap lyrics than good technique), Alex Barron (holding), Brown (false start and holding), etc.

I thought it was Jason Smith that they knew was a bust during his first training camp?

When we traded up for Austin I truly almost destroyed my tv. three my empty mug again the wall inches from the tv. You don't trade up for a tiny gadget player at best. So painful

Perhaps the only thing from having this happening at my house was the fact that there was already a buzz on another Rams forum that the Rams were looking to draft Tavon - so I was already prepared for the outrageously stupid pick. What also softened the blow was that the Rams subsequently drafted the guy I wanted (Ogletree).
But yes - You don't trade up for a tiney gadget player at best. :dizzy:

Can we re-live the pain of bad FA's too?

I will go first: Drew Bennett.

This one is on the Rams. He was suffering from a bad knee which ended up forcing him into retirement because of how bad it was. They didn't check him out before signing him. Once they figured out he wasn't healthy they had to wait to cut him because of the contract/cap hit.

Bad move.

But he would have been a good WR had it not been for the knee.

5) Tye Hill (he didn’t know how to play corner)

Never draft a Smurf to play CB.

Smith and Robinson top the list...

Phillips, Austin, Trung, Tye Hill, D. Lewis, R. Thomas, J. Shepherd, J. Kennedy and A. Barron round out group 2...

Quick, Klop the Flop, Pead, B. Leonard, Banks, D. Avery etc. round out group 3...

I agree the Crouch pick was mind boggling...

From Martz to Fisher we had a lot of piss poor drafts...

Went back and looked at all rams draft picks, starting in 1975. Lots of great drafts, most had at least one or two good players.

But Mad Mike's 2000 draft has got to be the worst draft in Rams history. None of them lasted very long on the Rams or in the NFL.

Trung Canidate Pk 31
Jacoby Shepherd Pk 62
John St. Clair Pk 94
Kauluna Noa Pk 104
Brian Young Pk 139
Matt Bowen PK 198
Andrew Kim Pk 220

Canidate, Shepherd and St. Clair were absolute busts.

How bout Donnie Avery over Desean Jackson? Not the worst, but pretty bad.
