The Rams’ pass rush really took the off after trading for Von Miller…or did it?

When you get into your 30's you have to pace yourself during the season. Guys like Miller know how to do that and be effective enough. Then turn it on in the postseason. Don't be surprised if Miller is not among the league leaders in sacks but starts to find his groove late in the season.

To me we will have questions with the edge opposite Floyd until they're answered. Lewis has the best chance for a breakout season. But he comes with that dreaded caveat. "If healthy".

I don’t think Miller can excel over a full 17 game regular season. Either he will need to be spelled throughout the season or he goes full tilt and wears down or worse hits an injjury. He didn’t click for the Rams until about 5 games in if I remember correctly.

This is an angle worth monitoring.
In that spirit.. damn, I hope the Rams dial back Aaron Donald's snap count this year.

Only after AD's first 25 sacks....

here's what i think...

von miller was a slight loss... compared to how the d was already playing...

yes there was an improvement in contain on the edge... i'm not so sure it was an off the charts improvement, but it did look better...

IMHO, as i watched the playoffs, and this is just from memory, no facts, but it sure seemed like the rams interior line was turning up the heat as the game moved closer to the 4th qtr and into the 4th....

what i saw was 3 junkyard dogs,(AD,Gaines A"Shawn) that were throwing down like no other... and then we had von doing what he does, and reaping the benefits of the opposing, having to adjust to try to stop the continuous jailbreak coming up the middle...

it brought back mid to late 60's watching the rams "D" feelings... :)

so we lose von...and i was a little upset when we lost him...

enter bobby wagner...

"talking heads"= the rams just picked up "lost a step" bobby wagner....

geeze... do the rams EVER get positive press???... it's so f&$cking annoying!!!...

i'm thinking BW comes out, and is going to turn up the volume so loud, the talking heads ears wil bleed...

there's no way the loss of von, and the gain that is BW, is not a massive improvement...

nobody's gonna serve me up crow... i know when i'm right...

go rams

slo

Wagner just turned 32 in June… All of this “lost a step” stuff seems overblown to me… he has LOTS of juice left at LB.

Well... I think that any discussion on what kind of positive impact Von had on the Rams and whether he'll be missed can be put to bed.

Rams could not generate pressure with 4... and that's gonna be a problem.

And provided the perfect opportunity to observe the difference Von makes.

For a team that is "all-in" on the window with Donald and Stafford... not paying Von that extra year is going to be something we revisit a lot over the next few years, I think.

The good news is the front office is aggressive and will probably bring someone in... the bad news is it will cost draft capital that's needed to bolster the offensive line.

Perhaps they will make a move. It worked before.

Floyd was close a couple of times but Allen is too mobile.

Meh, Wagner played good and had a sack himself. Robinson was open a lot just couldn't get the ball to him for various reasons. Lewis played decently.

Yes losing Von sucks and having to see him week 1 sucks even worse. But Von has been extremely streaky for several seasons now and hasn't been healthy outside of our run last season. He came to play last night and he knew how to beat us. Wouldn't be surprised if that's his best game all season. I would rather have Von than not but I don't think it's going to be as bad in the long run as it seems right now.

I agree that the pass rush really was not the issue last night. Allen was getting the ball out quickly (maybe we need more press coverage) and, when our DL beat the Bills OL, Allen did a great job of finding the escape routes.

Miller was great last night, and it certainly makes me wish he was still on the team. I'm not going to write off our pass rush just yet, though.

That cushion was garbage. Long pissed me off with the soft tackling and trash coverage. If he doesn't play better within the next two games, I want Durant to replace him and Kendrick to move up.

I don't think they will get that production from Von the entire season. But they will get it in their big games. The ones he is up for.

The guy was a huge loss in that respect.

Going forward the Rams need to first sort the secondary roles. Then get this defense a couple good outings showing good coverage, which is going to be a requirement this year. The secondary has to cover now.

Rams don't win the SB last year with Miller. He was huge in the playoffs. Acting like it's not a big loss is absurd.

True but you could say that about a lot of guys on the roster last year since we won 3 straight games in the postseason by a FG
