I've never understood how badly fans react to their team, in whatever sport, loses a big game. I don't go past disappointment myself, and can't grasp the hatred aimed at a player or coach for not winning a game. It's just a sport and I am not attached to it at that low of a level and it's not part of my identity.

I understand how it feels to watch my Rams lose a Super Bowl, and a playoff game and have the worst 5 year stretch in the history of the NFL. But I never hated anyone for it.

So I think the people flinging this type of shit towards a player is horrible.

ESPECIALLY sine we knew right after the game that the kick was tipped which altered the path of the ball.

Not a peep about the guy who didn't do a good enough job blocking to keep another player from getting his fingertips on the ball, it's all about the kicker who needs to die.

This must be something among certain fanbases because I don't remember this type of reaction when the Rams lost the SB to the Patriots, or when Az Hakim fumbled away the game in the playoffs against the Saints, or when Martz went fetal against the Panthers.

I wonder if there is any kind of study done on fans like this.

Agreed. That aside, I think we need to explore how the refs could have possibly had something to do with this. ;)

Not sure why anyone is surprised. These are the same fans that forced Steve Bartman into living like a mob rat in the witness protection program. Last I heard, he was living somewhere in Florida under an assumed name. :dizzy:

...not to mention the play in Q1 where they didn't get the first down, or when the WR dropped the ball in Q2, or when the opposition completed that pass in Q3...I could go on and on. You get the point.
EVERY play counts in a game...not just the last one.
If the Bears would have been up by 30 points, that kick wouldn't have mattered. Why weren't they up by 30?
Because the rest of the team failed during the previous 59 minutes and 59 seconds.

Trying to be aware on all levels, it occurs to me that the term "disgusting" sounds alot worse than its definition.

Having said that....I find myself unmoved by any of this towards a Chicago Bears kicker.

Whats more interesting to me is the love for one Nicolas Edward Foles and how the Rams played a part in his becoming an Eagle last year, then managed to lose to the Eagles this year (as heavy favorites), thus tricking the Eagles into believing in themselves and thier career backup/Super Bowl MVP/ back to back up/ current season saviour. ... ... ...Now thats disgusting.

One of the coolest things about social media is that sports fans can connect directly with athletes.

Honestly, I think the fix to social media - the real fix - is to get rid of anonymous accounts. If you want to say something - put your real name on it. And yes, 12intheBox is my real name.

Had he made the kick - fans would be focused on the Cohen return or Mitch moving them down the field.

No one would be talking about how great the snap was. Some jobs are just thankless.

Watch the film Buffalo 66

It’s about a guy who sets out to kill the Buffalo Bills kicker who missed game winner in the SB

It’s the life of a NFL kicker. You’re either underappreciated, suddenly a hero, or suddenly a candidate for assassination

It's disgusting, really. Happened just recently up here in Canada too, during the World Junior Hockey Championships. Nineteen year old - nineteen! - Maxime Comtois missed a penalty shot in overtime, and Canada ultimately lost and was eliminated. People were sending him messages hoping that he catches AIDS, and that they're going to hunt him down.

* He's nineteen.

* He's not being paid, as they are all still amateurs.

* Last year, in the NHL, with the best players in the world, the average scoring rate on penalty shots (shootouts) was about 33%. Meaning even the best miss 2 out of every 3 shots. And people wanted him dead.

* Again, he's nineteen.

Some people are so rude and negative on social media, I can't hardly use it any longer.

I know some people that dumped Facebook over the things that they have done and the fact that they are the largest spreader of fake news and lies in the world. They are terrible. Same with people not using Twitter hardly at all because of the BS..........they have grown weary of it.

I've never touched any of it, but have read Twitter threads I have clcicked on in news articles. Every time I am reminded of why I don't use it LOL.

Gentlemen this should not be shocking, it's always happened, you just now see far more often because of social media and cowards hiding behind their twitter, Instagram for Facebook profile. Years ago, there was the hate mail, could you imagine the letters that Jack "Jackie" Roosevelt Robinson received and many others that all of us were not privy to from days of yesteryear?

Also many of us on this board take our fandom seriously, however, let's not forget the origin of the word fan if fanatic or even fanatical. Overall I hope nobody wishes Cody Parkey irreparable harm, but we should not be shocked especially those of us that have been around the block because all of us have seen or heard worse I am sure.

Parkey made all the kicks prior to missing the game winner and it's not like Parkey is Kevin Butler or Robbie Gould former Bear kickers that had illustrious careers, Parkey is in his first year in Chicago and every fan base is going to react negatively to what transpired yesterday, so again, I'm not shocked. I was pleased that the Bear players surrounded him and gave him the support and my hope wold be that the organization follows their lead, however, in today's day and age, where you cannot even have an intelligent debate on politics anymore the logical discussions or agreeing to disagree seems to be more heated now that ever, but I wish Cody Parkey the very best, however, would I be doing that if he was a Ram, well, I would put up a list of available kickers and hope for someone better the following season, but that's as far as I would take it and that's why after losses, it's best to stay away from social media so cooler heads can prevail.
