But from comments McVay has made in recent interviews, Burgess doesn't appear to be ready in this defense. I don't know why that is, but I doubt they wouldn't trot him out there if he was ready.

Yeah, I still don't see anyone not calling a win a win around here so don't know why you keep going back to that but you don't have to wait for the rams to lose because of the exploitation of the schemes weakness. This just in......THEY ALREADY LOST to the cards because the defensive weaknesses were exploited.
Now, any coach wanting to shrug it off and wait for it to happen again before saying maybe we should do something about that, won't be in the NFL for long.
Don't forget when Rapp was drafted, Les was looking for players who fit Wades scheme and he fit well. His 1st year he was pretty good. Staley saw that Rapp didn't fit and while he was injured and missed time, I don't think he was in the plans as a starting safety, just a specialty, or hybrid used little. Morris hasn't figured it out yet. Or Morris sees the back ups as lesser options and thinks Rapp will figure it out.
He was really good at forcing the Chargers running back into a TD so the browns could get the ball. He is a very smart player.

One defender that I see as a future starter is Rookie CB Robert Rochell. A true positive in this DC Morris secondary. Snead truly did well on this selection after he failed miserably on the selection of CB David Long.

David Long had a bad game against Arizona that is the truth.He got benched basically so I don’t know the thinking on him.RR31 is raw & needs experience,but he has been a positive surprise.
Troy Hill & John Johnson both left for Cleveland.I didn’t watch the game,but 47 points & a loss does not sound to good.I’d say that is a lot of points to give up.
Yes- the Rams defense did not play all that well against Arizona giving up 37,but if The Rams offense scores 42 they’d have won.2 turnovers don’t help either. Rams In the Red Zone we’re 2-5(3-5) for whatever that stat means.They did not get Arizona to turn the ball over though.
I don’t know what stats you want to go by.I’ll just keep addressing the Win. Losing to the 5-0 Cardinals is better than lossing to a 0-13 Jets team.I think of that as a good loss

I think you’ve gone a little overboard Bonifay’d. Then again David Long is a guy Les Snead knew or had knowledge of when he first came to Los Angeles. His son went to Loyal HS.
I think Fisher son went to Auburn & The Rams drafted Greg Robinson. I use that as a possible cross over.
I thought about that back in camp, was thinking about that as well as even Ramsey cycling to one of those safety spots (basically going to more corners in a Cover 4 look) but the prob is our corner play wasn't good enough. Long struggling pretty much put a cap on crazy ideas like that I think, as we now need Rochell outside the hashes.
I actually think Long could be our nickel corner vs some teams on the schedule (the ones without big matchups like say Kittle) but the Rams are all-in on having Ramsey closer to the box for run fits. This idea isn't new but Staley put on a clinic in using it to his advantage and I have to say it's grown on me. But then again I'm an old school type fan who loves strong run games and defense. I'd be happy as hell watching our offense mash it on the ground for 200 yards every week if we had the complementary defense that could get off the field.
I'm not putting all the blame on the defense for the cards loss but I do think if Staley is the DC for that game, the Rams win it and the fact that the defense tweaked more to his scheme in the improvement during the Seahawks game, as I acknowledged, supports that opinion.
And what win is it you keep "addressing?" My whole point, as well as many others on this thread has been about the need to address the cards loss. We know a win is a win. Do you understand the cards loss is a loss because if you do, then why the pushback on trying to prevent that from happening again? I mean talk about bitching over nothing
The Cards loss was at least as much on the offense as on the defense, imo.
Two turnovers.. blown red zone opportunities and general shakiness.
Cards never stopped them.. the Rams didn't execute.
Yes, but the difference is that the offensive failures came mostly from player mistakes whereas the failure of the defense was mostly scheme created.
In the past, against the Murry cards, the D line rushed the QB holding their lanes and not going past the level of the QB. It s also how the played Wilson. In the cards game I didn't see that. Was it because the cards o line is better and we didn't get that collective push. Or was it a lack of discipline or scheme? We will learn more the next time we play them.
