There have been a lot of crazy, unbelievable sporting moments. Famous at-bats/snaps/shots that happened before my time (e.g. Ruth calling his shot) excluded, these are the top few that I've experienced with my own eyes in real time:
  • Kirk Gibson's World Series HR on one leg
  • Miracle on Manchester Kings comeback from 0-5 against the Oilers
  • Miracle on Ice (USA win vs the mighty USSR in the Olympics)
  • The tackle, giving the Rams their first Super Bowl victory
  • The Mayfield Miracle (yes, I just named it)
In my view, they all have two things in common to make them special for me.
  1. Improbability
  2. Impact
Everything on this list except what happened last night had a huge impact. From a Super Bowl win to put a bow on the improbable Kurt Warner season, to playoff victories against heavy favorites leading to Championships, respect or Gold medals.

My point is that if the impact of last night turns into the resurrection of Baker Mayfield's career, and it's with the Rams upon Stafford's retirement over the next few seasons, I think it will take the number one spot for me.

Where would you rank the above?

Any moments I missed?
That win, after Rayduhs dancing the Griddy at our two yard line was one of the most miraculous and exciting Rams’ wins in my lifetime. What a fun time. Thanks Baker Mayfield! Legendary stuff!

You expect them to celebrate, but the dude doing the slit throat gesture a few times should have been penalized. All in all, karma is a ruthless bitch and the only thing better is if this happened against the Whiners.

...Furthermore, it’s a bit myopic to think because it was a Rams game, it automatically jumps to some all time list that includes, say, the Gibson HR.

As OP, I tried to be clear that it is NOT at that level, yet. Maybe it will never be. To me, it is about improbability and impact.

Many of the moments mentioned in this thread are somewhat improbable for sure, but they happened within the context of the game. HR at the perfect time? Yeah, MLB players hit HRs for a living, but it was fun due its impact.

Gibson's was different since he could barely walk, it made it crazy "The Natural" improbable. The fact that it rallied Dodgers to beat the heavily favored A's in the World Series gave it a killer combo of off the charts improbably AND impact. The only thing better is if it happened in extra innings of game 7.

The Mayfield Miracle absolutely belongs in the conversation because what he accomplished had literally NEVER BEEN DONE. Even to look serviceable would have been crazy with lack of familiarity of a complex NFL playbook. But to QB two TDs late, including a hasn't-been-done in 50 years 98 yard drive with little time and no-timeouts, is just nuts.

You're correct that this will be somewhat forgotten if Mayfield just fades away. But if he sticks with the Rams and is our guy in a few years for the next decade or so with success, this moment shoots to the top of MY list since it has the appropriate impact.

Again, I'm talking about MY list. Clearly it wouldn't be on yours :sunglasses:

Buster Douglas kicking Mike Tyson’s ass one of the all time upsets.
I watched that live. I commonly root for underdogs when one of my teams/players are not in the contest and I just about lost my mind when Douglas put the Tyson monster down. I couldn't believe it.

Tyson lost that fight because he was a east target. Gone was his head moving all over the place.

I was at this game. This was Ozzie Smith’s first lefthanded homer of his career.

I told my brother in law that stat just minutes before he hit it… “he never has hit one lefthanded.”… Boom! Homerun!

Cardinals went on to win game 6 in LA. I was a young high schooler at the time.

Normally this statement is just sour grapes. But they admitted it and were punished.

Still don't understand why their title wasn't officially rescinded and given to the Dodgers. So sick of hearing the Dodgers haven't won the WS (in a full season) since the 80s. Umm, what about 2017, you pieces of shit?
2020 was the hardest WS ever to be won. No home games, even if you were the best team, an extra round of playoffs. No OFF days during LCS. and WS. Unprecedented stress for players....its unreal what the Dodgers did that year, brought so much joy to people that really needed it.

The case to be made is 2020 proved who the BEST team really was. Not just some team that got hot, ala ATL and Philly....

Houston this year were good no questions about it, unless stuff comes out later they were still cheating...

The Phillies got hot because Harper came back after being out for 2.5 months and once he came back from a broken hand it took him 3 or 4 weeks to get going at the plate. That happened as the playoffs started.

Agree they got hot at the right time, and with MLB playoffs set up the way it is now, you can win 86-87 games and make the playoffs. 10-15 years ago these teams would never even made the playoffs. The reg season has been de-valued but thats for TV and money now....

True, but true championship caliber team should be able to win a best of 3 with playing every game at home. Or be rested and win a best of 5 with home field advantage.

Not sure if this is English or not...

The LA talk radio Dodger fans are poor losers.Being an Angels fan it’s easy get used to Losing. I was mad ohtani didn’t win MVP.Then again I didn’t think Trout & him deserved to have won it before really because of a the losing of games from the Angels.

I don’t like the Dodgers way of business with Spectrum over the years as well.I don’t know anyone’s view of the Ducks,Clippers Kings.I’m a Lakers Fan,but after they won it all during the short season I didn’t like the make up of the team. Jason Kidd left & didn’t(don’t) like AD-aka-Uni-brow.Just glad Jeanie,Georgia,& Jackie all won championships.

The way DODGER FANS complain about winning but losing is FREAKING HILARIOUS.Makes them Big Time Losers in My Book.I like the general Dodger fan,but these type of Fans, writers, talk show host & those type I LOL at there gull.
Being a long time Rams Fan or Lakers fan I see it as well, after the DODGERS LOST to the Padres it was GREAT!! Watching a Fan base come together & cheering BEATING LA DODGERS was Priceless.Didn’t cost me nothing, but to see that after math still makes me LMAO.

I would say C. Williams winning the Heisman Trophy just like Baker say, come full circle.I say that 7th inning was so cool when the Padres beat the Dodgers.Micro-managing instead of just letting players play & make Baker Mayfield like Magic.

Don’t get me started on Magic, but you can’t have it both ways. Just Grateful Stan didn’t by the Dodgers & history is history. The future at SOFI is only going to have greatness inside it.

Los Angelos is a better place with Stan Kronke
