I also think Reynolds could have done a better job making a play for the ball, not that he could have caught it, but that he could have disrupted the INT
The ball was out of reach. The only thing Reynolds could do was lay out for it.

See, his right arm is fully extended.

I disagree. Watch the play, looks like he makes a weak attempt at it and pulls back to avoid contact. Bad throw, not on him at all, he may of thought it was headed out the end zone

Here's a better view, Reynolds arm at full extension. He was looking at Goff and the ball the whole time, and didn't know the defender was there. The defender catches the ball and plows through JR's arm before he has time to react.

In the screenshots it actually looks like he could have poked the ball away.
He was half attempting to reach the ball likely thinking it was going out of the end zone, and when Verret came in to the play he backed off. Just watch the play, still shots dont show that.

The shots are the from the video and show everything you need. It can be paused at any point of the play. At which point does he back off, between the 4th and 5th shot or afterwards? His arm is fully extended in the third shot and is still fully extended in the 4th shot when it hits Verett's facemask as he is jumping through it. The time between the second screenshot and the last is under a second. He would need the reflexes of Flash react and change his momentum in that timespan.

I think you are sticking to your statement just because and don't want to admit you're wrong, which is fine.

These corners were definitely reading our routes. Either they really reviewed the film or we have a tell. Jesus.
I didn't know the names of their corners before the game but I do now. They were on us like white on rice.

I think you are overvaluing your own opinion sport.
Screen grabs dont show context.
I'm not even sure why this is even an argument, there were a whole bunch of issues on that play. Goff appeared late on the throw, looked a little high and too far out front, and Verett made a great play on the ball. Wasnt the Rams night.
Goff had a clean pocket, had Verret bit on Woods, Reynolds would have been wide open. But he didnt, and Reynolds ran a questionable route, as he had a lot of space to back of EZ and may have run too shallow of a route. Either way it appears he isnt making a max effort, assuming he thought ball was going out of EZ, and when Verret comes in to the picture he pulls off instead of trying to break it up.
I'm sticking with my statement because watching the play over and over, I cant see it any other way.
And newsflash, we dont know what happened, if play was run correctly or not, so the idea of thinking an opinion is "right or wrong" is a bit silly

I will agree that I think Reynolds could have played the ball better to bat it away from the cornerback.

It appeared that he didn't give his all on that play.

I disagree. The moment the ball is snapped Goff locks onto Reynolds. Verrett sees this well before the pass is thrown. Verrett flips his hips and breaks for the ball before Woods heads up field.

Watching that slo-mo video, I am not so sure.
There are 3 reads for Goff to that side. He may have locked onto Reynolds, but no way to tell in that video. But more importantly, the DB that made the interception didn't break until Goff made the throw. And most important of all, Kupp dropped a sure TD on 3rd down, so should have been irrelevant.

Yeah, I'm not blaming anyone here. My whole point was that Woods didn't lead Verrett into the throw. It was a hell of a play by him. And definitely true about the Kupp drop.

.

i don't think it would have mattered where goff placed the ball. it would have still been intercepted. it was not the kind of pass required in that situation with a defender on the outside of the intended target. you can't lob it into there, the db has too much time to react and adjust. it needed to be a rocket like the one he threw to woods for the 1st td. that was beautiful.

we can't tell if there was a lineman in his way to throw it with that type of velocity. i'm gonna assume there was otherwise why would he lob the ball like that?

.

I do not like this play call, in that situation... but damn, yeah, the 49’ers played it well.

If it’s not a tell, that crappy secondary we expected played this perfect.
