.

i don't think it would have mattered where goff placed the ball. it would have still been intercepted. it was not the kind of pass required in that situation with a defender on the outside of the intended target. you can't lob it into there, the db has too much time to react and adjust. it needed to be a rocket like the one he threw to woods for the 1st td. that was beautiful.

we can't tell if there was a lineman in his way to throw it with that type of velocity. i'm gonna assume there was otherwise why would he lob the ball like that?

Goff led him too much is all. But i still think it should have been a run.

In my opinion the primary target was at the top of the screen. The bunch clustered the rest together so we had 1on1 on top, and that should've been his throw. It just makes sense that the play would've been designed that way, and it worked. He just made the wrong throw. The throw over the top to 1on1 is a safer throw it's either caught or incomplete, low chance of int.

These corners were definitely reading our routes. Either they really reviewed the film or we have a tell. Jesus.
I agree, not that they were reading our routes exactly, but that they were sitting on tendencies for a given down/distance/formation. We saw it last year too.

McVay and Shanny being so similar in their roots is the cause of this btw. McVay needs to mix in some more new combinations, vary his routes a bit more when we play SF.

The deep out that Verrett was sitting on with Woods was a play where the Rams were trying to spring Hendy underneath. He was lined up to take away the outs that SF knows McVay favors for Woody in that formation. The OLB unfortunately made a good play. But yeah this game shows it's not just about your team, that the other team makes plays too. Gotta tip our cap to SF and go get 'em next time.

That play failed due to design oversight IMO. Seemed like a good idea I'm sure when the Rams drew it up but a heads up corner can remove two of your weapons. No matter how you slice it that's something you want to avoid.

And anyway Goff isn't that QB any longer who needs 3 quick reads in the same zip code. He gets through his reads really quick. If anything his problem is getting off early reads too quickly when he perceives pressure that might or might not be there.

Three receivers to the left, with only Everett on the right and the DB over his nose.

When they lined up, thought it was set up perfectly for a slant to Everett but he went to the corner.

Its possible that Reynolds is too shallow, but I think the biggest issue was Goff not selling Woods to pull in Verrett. Personally, I think he was locked in on Kupp

It is a good point. I would like to see Goff pump fake a little more often in certain situations.
